More hassle than I bargained for!
My initial impression of the property was a nerve racking one. As I was researching I made sure to choose a listing that was supposedly child friendly. I was taken aback when first entering the kitchen and instantly seeing a problem with the hot water tank in plain sight in the kitchen. We immediately had to set up a make shift barricade to stop my toddler from messing with the pilot light. We then settled in and found the extremely steep stair way. Additionally there must have been a carpet/runner on the stairs at one point because there were a few nails/ staple exposed. We then went right to Meijers and had to buy 3-4 baby gates. We were underwhelmed also by the supposed beach. There was about 12 sq ft of sand dangerously perched 3-4ft above the water with jagged rocks in between. Although the cement stairways was passable, they is some serious maintenance needed to the property. I would be very concerned to visit if I had any children under the age of 6 or 7.Although it is not the owners fault, we happened to have cold weather while there and we had no luck with the thermostat. We called(James, the owner was very available and approachable)he stated that they only use ceramic space heaters. I tested one of these and within 5 minutes they were scorching hot to the touch, another issue for those with young children. I would advise those interested to speak and ask tons of questions to see if this is the right fit especially if you have children. I wish I would have been more in depth, instead if cost me a lot of money and we had to leave 3 days early because the nervousness was not worth it being it was our only vacation of the Summer. James offered a couple days free next year to make up for it but I told him I wouldn't bring any kids there until they were 6-7 years old.
