LUXURY RURAL HOME - SPECTACULAR VIEWS, WATER FEATURES, 2 TERRACED PATIOS

Georgetown House Rental Photos and Description

2 large king bedroom suites, 2 full baths, sleeps 8 with queen sleeper & inflat.

As you leave the hustle and bustle of Austin you will literally feel your stress and cares melt away as you drive down the country lane to the house. Watch the horses and goats as they graze in the top pasture, the bird activity from the back patios with hill country terrain, or stroll down to the river bottom and hike along the river or fish for catfish, blue gill or bass.

Deep in the heart of Texas, this large, open home was designed around centuries old live oak trees by famed TX landscape artist C. P. Montague. It is constructed of river rock, picked up at the river on the property.

Georgetown is only a 10 minute drive away and you can stroll around one of the most beautiful town squares in Texas, eat in one of the many fine restaurants we have been blessed with, or attend one of the many festivals held on the square throughout the year.

Pick up a brochure from the Visitor's Center on the square and go on a self-guided tour of the historic home and business section of Georgetown and see many beautifully restored Victorian homes and read the stories behind them.

Austin is a 30 minute drive away, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds staying at Scurlock Farms.

Farm Activities: Within walking distance to the San Gabriel River, Rocky Hollow is on a working 172 acre farm and has 1+ mile river frontage. Relax surrounded in rustic beauty with a clear view of the night sky and stars, perfect for stargazing. In the fall and winter, enjoy the fire pit as you relax outside; in the spring and summer, enjoy the breezes we always enjoy. Archaeology buffs can hunt the limestone river banks for a variety of fossils or the hillside for Tonkawa or Comanche Indian arrowheads. We have many birders stop along the property trying to catch site of the many species we have seen on the farm.

Weddings The patios have been the site of several weddings and bridal photos. Wedding parties have reserved both Rocky Overlook and The Palette Pad for accommodations.

Dan and I own a continuing education company providing CE for the insurance industry. I am also the licensing director for a small insurance company. Dan has retired and keeping up with the farm is now a full-time job.

We love to travel, garden and I am an avid reader.

Owner Sheron Scurlock purchased this house in 2010

When my mom and dad bought this beautiful piece of property, they gave each of their 5 children the option of building a home at a location of our choosing. My husband and I were the only ones that took them up on it.

After my dad died in 1986 my husband and I began buying the farm. When my mom died in 2010, she left her home and art studio to us.

We've raised our family here and made the same offer to our two sons and our youngest took us up on it and built a beautiful home for his family in the middle of the property.

Rocky Overlook and the studio are the heart of the farm and I could not even think of selling them. I didn't want them to fall in disrepair from not being used. Both are so unique that I wanted to share them.

My sisters helped me and we totally remodeled the interiors of both and the results have been spectacular. It has been so gratifying to share mama and daddy's dream home and talents with others.

In the house, I have a notebook of the story of their searching for and finding the property and building the houses. Also, the story of mama's painting and how she became C. P. Montague and a favorite of then President L. B. Johnson. The joy and appreciation that guests have when staying there are a living tribute to mama and daddy!

Andy and I were pleased wit the whole weekend. Everything met our expectations as far as a comfortable and pleasant facility. Our family was able to have a memorable holiday gathering together in one location. The farm area was beautiful, just like our farm where I was growing up. We wanted for nothing. Everything was well maintained and
kept. The muffins were a delicious added treat.
Owner's Response: I am glad Rocky Overlook worked for your annual family Christmas get-together with your children and grandchildren. I know you enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace! We would love to have you visit again!

QUIET, PEACEFUL, GREAT WINTER ESCAPE

The home is situated perfectly. Because it is winter, we couldn't take advantage of the patios everyday. It was great when we were able to sit in the sunshine!!! It was wonderful to NOT see any snow!!!!!!

I can not say enough good things about Sheron & Dan. They were absolutely wonderful.....very patient, answering a million questions, suggesting great restaurants, (The Pit, Los Amigos, Souper Salad, The Monument Cafe) - (The Texan Cafe in Hutto, & The Bluebonnet in Marble Falls), directions to get around the country side (Round Rock, Hutto, Austin, Fredericksburg & all through Georgetown) & arrive back home, sites to take in, telling us when the new baby goats had arrived for viewing. Sharing "The Caring Place" & the good they do. The muffins - especially the blue berry - were simply divine.

If you expect a manicured lawn and fancy schmancy - this isn't the home for you. It is a comfortable, rambling home that oozes character, over-sized rooms & the perfect country setting. I remembered my Girl Scout days & could build a briquette fire to cook dinner outside in Feb.& Mar., did get to listen to one of the fountains. Enjoyed so many different bird sightings (jays, cardinals, finches) & watching the squirrels....Did not want to leave to come back to the cold & snow - but already dreaming of a return trip.....

Thank you for your Texas size hospitality to my new friends in Georgetown!!!!
Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure meeting you and Barb! I was sorry to hear you had another 12" of snow last week!! I hope Charlie (your dog) wasn't too mad at you for taking him back into the snow. I am glad you had a taste of spring and maybe it will make the remaining winter go quicker. Your month stay gave you time to take in a lot of the great restaurants in the area, do some shopping and site seeing. The bluebonnets have really popped out now and there are a lot on the farm - wish you had been able to see them. If you decide to escape to Texas again, Dan and I would love to have you again!

Absolutely Amazing!

Where to begin this review - - well, perhaps where it all started with our warm welcome from the owners, Sheron and Dan, who showed up on the porch with a dozen homemade muffins still warm from the oven. From there on, they were the perfect hosts, always knowing when to be present, when to be invisible and always available at a moment's notice to lend a hand, answer a question or give a tour of the gorgeous property. Such hospitality! But the house and its history are the stars of the show here. Our plans to explore neighboring towns (and they are charming) dissolved when we found so much to see and discover in this working farm and the fascinating rock home, lovingly built by Sheron's parents using rocks they carried up from the river below. The home features the art of Sheron's famous artist-mother as well as a few lovely pieces by Sheron, herself. Every wall is a gallery of oil paintings or murals. We poured through the scrapbook history of the home and asked for more. Sheron cheerily endured the barrage of our questions. There is such a fantastic story here. The house is beautiful and extremely comfortable and as well supplied as anyplace we've ever stayed (and we've stayed in dozens of rentals). The views are sweeping and gorgeous. During our too short stay (only five days), eight baby goats were born so that we started each morning by going down to the barn to see the previous nights' new arrivals. We saw deer every day and many bird species, including a few relatively rare ones. The location is great -- just far enough out to be in the country; just close enough to town for an easy quick trip to pick up supplies. If you are considering a stay anywhere in this area, we encourage you to select this place and stay for as long as your schedule and budget will allow. It really is a slice of heaven. We were so fortunate to have discovered it.

P.S. For a real treat, ask to hear the album Dan recorded. That man can sing and pick a guitar - - a real talent!
Owner's Response: What a pleasure it was to meet and visit with you and Kuyt!! Due to your hospitallity, I was able to experience the house as a guest and it was wonderful - thank you! I also enjoyed learning some of your very interesting family history. The great blue herons will begin tending their nests in the rookery across the river soon and what a site they are. There are at least 18 nests and seeing those 3' birds perched atop them is something to behold. There is so much to do within a 30 minute drive from the farm and we are looking forward to guests from Spain in March that are coming for the big SXSW festival in Austin. Dan and I look forward to your next visit!

Hunting retreat

As usual, a wonderful place to stay for our annual hunting trip. The home is as described in the listing and of course, Sheron is a great hostess providing her great & tasty homemade muffins (forget a diet for the weekend) :). Since we picked the time of the great cold front, we utilized the fireplace with all of the wood provided and it felt quite cozy. Thanks again.....

Great time!

We were down for a wedding and my son and his family had drove in from Virginia with our 18 month old granddaughter. It was so much nicer staying here instead of a motel cause our granddaughter could run around the house and go outside and play. She enjoyed seeing the birds and butterflies.
We were treated to homemade muffins and our privacy was respected by the caretakers. It was so much more peaceful than the hussle and bussle of the city.
Owner's Response: I know your granddaughter enjoyed "talking" to the goldfish in the fish pond. Children enjoy trips so much more when in a home rather than cooped up in a hotel room, which makes all the adults enjoy it more, too! I'm glad we were able to provide a relaxing, peaceful place to stay while here for all the wedding festivities.
