The Calendar House was exactly what we wanted it to be--a Thanksgiving retreat for my family to get together and enjoy open space, both inside and outside the large house. The fireplace was the largest I have seen; we kept fires burning from wake-up to bedtime. Lincoln had just cut a large amount of seasoned wood, so supply was not a problem. Our large dog was comfortable roaming the house and grounds. Lincoln even arranged for a 1' snowfall the night before Thanksgiving to give us the real holiday feeling. The county roads were cleared by Thanksgiving morning. Our family chose to spend parts of day times exploring Woodstock and other nearby villages. Dinner was at him every night--why not, no restaurant could have the same ambiance. The bedrooms and the large living room were updated, so even this old, historically house had the modern conveniences.
We had a wonderful stay at Calender house in October with spectacular yard and view, spacious living room with several sofas and chairs which screamed "Nap time". Wonderful fire place kept us cozy. Big dinind room and well equipt kitchen was a bonus. Besides the 4 big bedrooms there is a ful bed on the loft quite suitable for sleeping without interrupting other guest. We did not need to use it but sure could have. It was a step back in time but equipped with convieniences we were used to having. I would surely return..
I would stay here over and over again. I loved the house! The kitchen was fully equipped! THAT was a complete bonus as our group cooked several meals. The beds were comfortable, fire place awesome and the large living room was spacious and comfortable. Our group was in the Hudson Valley for the NYS Wool and Sheep festival and we were a short 25 min from the fairgrounds.
I just returned from spending a fantastic weekend at Calendar House with a group of old friends coming from different places. We were four couples and two dogs, and there was plenty of space and privacy for everyone. The listing description was accurate to what the house had to offer, and I would say the photos didn't even do it justice. It was even better than it looked online! The house was super clean and very nicely maintained. The owner, Lincoln, was a dream to work with. The cost of the house was the cost of the house - there were no hidden fees, no extra charges, everything was up front and easy, and he was available by phone immediately any time we needed to ask a question. All the bedrooms were spacious and clean, so all 4 couples were perfectly happy with their rooms and no one felt like they had gotten a raw deal. There was a ton of property for the dogs to run and play, and the 8 of us spent almost all of our time outside in lawn chairs during the day and hanging out around the AWESOME fire pit at night. I never actually even made it down to the basement where there was a pool table and game room until right before we were leaving, because I was having so much fun I forgot it was even there! But some of my friends played pool down there on Friday night and said it was great. We actually didn't even leave the property for the entire weekend, so I can't say much about the surrounding area. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook, and there was a great grill for BBQ - so we had no reason to leave except to buy groceries. I would recommend this property to any group or family. Our only complaint is that we all had to get back to reality on Monday and couldn't stay a few more days. We will definitely be back!
My family and I stayed at Calendar house for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. The two night stay was too short, we were sorry we couldn't stay longer as the house was so beautiful and full of character. The house was spacious and perfect for our large group. (there were 9 adults in total). When we arrived the house was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The bedrooms had plenty of space and were perfectly made up. There was also plenty of hot water and plenty of towels were provided in the bathrooms. The house was great value for the two nights and Lincoln was very easy to work with. Hopefully we make it back again soon!
We rented this grand house to stay at while we were in New York for our son's wedding.
It was more than the pictures showed. You could sense the history and age of the house the moment you walked into the grand foyer with a glistening chandelier! The rooms were large and comfortable while keeping with the character of the house. There was something for all ages...comfy seating, game room, tennis courts, large expanse of green space, well equipped kitchen, and more! The bedrooms were comfortable with lots of space and firm mattresses. With 3 1/2 bathrooms it was comfortable for the 9 of us. We hosted a small family brunch the morning after the wedding and there were plenty of tables and chairs, silverware, coffee cups, etc. for all 30 of us! Everyone who visited us said how amazing the house is! It was easy to get to all of our destinations while we were staying there. But look our for the deer! We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the beauty of the stars in the clear night sky. The owner was easy to work with, very helpful, and returned calls and emails quickly. We enjoyed meals at the Elizaville Diner and Griffs Deli in Red Hook. In my opinion, this house is a great value and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet retreat within easy access of the action.
