PRIVATE ECOTOURISM RETREAT- GUESTHOUSE, BUNKIES, CABINS, WILDERNESS CAMPING

Port Burwell House Rental Photos and Description

5 bedroom 3 bathroom guesthouse, rustic cabins and wilderness campsites

Unique secluded property ideal for those who love nature and wildlife. Guest house filled with antiques but has all the modern conveniences and very comfortable beds. The property runs for 2 miles along the Otter river which is great for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. There are miles of groomed trails through the Otter River valley hills and overlooking deep scenic ravines.Great for hiking or snowmobilling/ATVing, bird watching depending on the season. The woodlots are well managed, with most tree species, including many carolinian species, and some old growth. There are four spring fed ponds on the property - one complete with dock for swimming, one for fishing, and the other two for wildlife habitat..There are many streams feeding into the otter river. Whether staying at our guesthouse, roughing it in the cabins, or wilderness camping, you have access to all 400 acres|!!All accommodations come with a fire pit and wood provided Only an 8 minute drive to Port Burwell,s two beautiful beaches and Provincial Park. Check out our WEBSITE at www.otterriverfarms.ca for lots more pictures, information and availability - we don't use the calendar on this website

This is a great place for family reunions or group gatherings. Besides the guest house there are two bunkies right close to the house with comfortable beds - one has two twins and the other has a double and a single. The bedding is not supplied for these so have to bring sleeping bags or your own sheets, blankets. Much better than a tent! We also allow campers and tents on the property so that large families or groups of friends can have fun together. There's a great campfire sight right on the property with no restrictions on how late you stay up. We do encourage families and mature adults who want to have fun and enjoy naure BUT don't want excessive partying potentially causing damage to all the antiques in the house and around the property. The barn on the property is equipped with horse stalls so riders are encouraged to come and stay and ride the trails. This is a wildlife haven just waiting to be explored and enjoyed!

I'm a strong believer in good forest management and think about the generations to follow. My property has mature hardwoods, with pine and hemlock. Includes plantations of white pine ,red pine and walnut. I work hard at culling out the dead, dying and diseased, and obvious trees that should be harvested. The sale of these logs help pay for the many expenses of running a property like this. I use a four wheel drive tractor, with a winch to keep damage to the land at a minimum. We burn wood in our house, cabins, work shop, hunt camp, and wood can be used in the guest house to supplement the heat pump.I practice wild life management, and erosion control.I collect antiques, old farm implements and antique farm tools, our forefathers used. I love nature, history and improving my propery . We make maple syrup the old fashioned way with buckers and spiles and burning wood to boil the sap down to syrup..I enjoy people and like to share my property to those who are interested.I like to see people have a good time and am glad to spend time with them if they wish.

Douglas Dennis purchased this house in 1969

This is and has been our family home and property since 1969. I've just retired and want to share the beauty of the property with others.

Privacy and being able to drink and have fun around a campfire at night and not worry that you're going to be told to shut it down. We encourage guests to have fun and enjoy the outdoors as long as it's done with respect.

50 TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

  • 5 of 5
Great choice for this family reunion of 3 generations. The owners are committed to hospitality and prepared the space for optimum convenience and enjoyment for both good weather and bad weather (wood stoves). A long table and buffet are set up in the large garage to seat everyone being served from the BBQ. The veranda was a popular hangout for the adults and the big family rooms for the teens. Having all the wood close to the fire pit was a nice feature. All the property is well cared for. We did get a bit disorientated on our hike, so perhaps the map could be updated.
Thank you and we will be back!

REMOTE BUT WONDERFUL...

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for a brief visit while visiting my sister-in-law from Windsor. There is LOTS of room in this house. When it says it sleeps 10-12, that is VERY comfortably. There are also additional "outdoor buildings" for those that don't mind roughing it a little bit.

It would be a wonderful place for a family reunion. There is a lot of room for just about any outdoor activity... hiking (10+ miles of trails), fishing, ATV's horseback riding, etc... The outdoor fire pit was great. The garage has been converted to an outdoor living room with a working wood burning stove (the cooking kind) and you are encouraged to use it if you like.

The hosts were wonderful and very conscious to make sure visit is as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

It is a bit remote and there isn't necessarily a "quick" trip to the grocery store (about 30+ minutes one way) so just be sure to come prepared.

The only negative that I can mention is the continuous boom from the bird cannon at the nearby Blueberry farm. The hosts are clearly annoyed with it as well and have actively seeked to have it changed. But you are in farm country... once you get past that which wasn't that bad in out opinion, it is a wonderful place to stay and feel like you are at home.
