About Ron or Rebecca Owners
As a young person I dreamed of living in the Sierra Nevadas. During the college summer break of the year I turned 21 I found a summer job in Murphys on a ranch. Later that summer I worked my way up to registrar and book-keeper at the Murphies hotel and volunteered at the local veterinary clinic. It was an idealic summer and I planned to return after I finished college. Several years later my girlfriend (Rebecca whom I married) and I began rented a cabin in the Arnold area and invited a group of about 10 of our friends for winter break. That became a tradition which lasted for about 15 years. Rebecca and I are veterinarians living in Santa Barbara.
Ron or Rebecca Owners purchased this house in 2003
Why Ron or Rebecca Owners chose Arnold
Rebecca and I continued coming to this area every summer, staying at Cal Berkeley family camp near Strawberry Lake for about 12 years when our children were young. When the kids got older we decided to buy a cabin. We wanted to be near the beautiful Big Trees at Calaverous State Park, close to the Stanislaus River, high enough to get some snow during the winter and close enough to easily drive to Bear Valley Ski Resort in the winter. Big Trees Village was the perfect location and its large, quite, heavily forested lots were just what we were looking for. We are retiring this year and hope to finially be able to fill that childhood dream of Living in the Sierras, at least for part of the year.
What makes this house unique
Five miles closer to Sking than Arnold. More likely in the winter to have nice quality snow at the cabin than lower down in Arnold (1000 ft lower). At 5000 feet elevation has a cooler more comfortable summer climate. Much more forested, more wildlife and secluded than the housing around Arnold. Closer to Stanislaus River access, Lakes, Redwood State Park, and hiking than the Arnold area. All around a nicer place to hang out in nature. Great walks right in the neighborhood.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Welcome to our Cabin. We hope you have enjoyed your stay and that you
found everything in order. Please let us know if anything needs to be
repaired or if you have ideas on how to make the mountain experience more
pleasant. Since we rely on a number of outside services to clean the cabin,
plow the snow and do some of the upkeep, we appreciate knowing from you
whether they are doing their job well. Come back in the summer and enjoy
relaxing in lakes, rivers, redwoods and the high sierras.
