Indoor storage for skis, boards, bikes, kayaks, etc. Driveway parking for 6+ cars. 6 person outdoor hot tub (fall/winter season only). Open kitchen/living/dining room floor plan.

This unit is on the first floor of a large ski house, that used to be a barn. The upstairs is unoccupied in the summers and could be added to the rental. It has 3 more bedrooms (2 queens and a bunk room with one bunk bed and one single bed), another fully stocked kitchen and two more bathrooms. Ask for an inclusive quote.

This winter season 2013/14 (Thanksgiving through Okemo closing in early April) the upstairs is rented to an Okemo ski instructor, his wife and their two daughters. So the house has the real authentic feel of a ski house. The hot tub is shared between the occupants of both units.

Some Background: This house has a long tradition in Ludlow, of being a welcoming place to spend a funfilled ski and snowboard vacation. The former owner John known to most as 'JD' was a much loved snowboard instructor at Okemo and rented the house for many years to friends, family and Okemo staff. Sadly John passed away in 2011 and now I, his wife, am carrying on his mission to provide a comfortable place to stay, that feels a little like home and is the perfect place to spend a vacation at any time of the year. I still live in town and if you ever need anything during your stay, just ask.

About Uli Donohue

I grew up in Germany, went to high school in Ireland and to university in Ireland and the UK. In 2009 I moved to this beautiful part of the world before getting married to my husband John. He had bought the property in 1996 as a ski house for himself and his large group of friends from the Boston area. In 2003, John himself moved from Boston to Vermont and started working as a snowboard instructor at Okemo. Over the years this house has accommodated many instructors who worked at Okemo and John known at the mountain and in town just as 'JD' became a much respected member of the Okemo and Ludlow community. The 'Funhouse' became known as just that, a fun house. Sadly, John passed away in November of 2011 suddenly and unexpectedly. I, his wife, am now continuing John's passion and the mission of the Funhouse, to provide welcoming accommodation to visitors intent on experiencing the beauty of Vermont at all times of the year.

Uli Donohue purchased this farmhouse in 1996

Wonderful and welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased with this house. Uli is a wonderful owner and was a pleasure to work with through the entire process. The house had everything we needed and was clean. Well, except for the yard and porch due to terrible weather! The day before our arrival, there was a terrible storm knocking out power to much of the area. In fact, power was only restored to this house about 2 hours before our arrival! There were down trees everywhere and wind and rain had blown onto the lovely porch. I was nervous when I landed for my connecting flight and received a message from Uli informing me about the power. But as we were making the drive in, she called to tell me the power had been restored. See, because this property is managed by the owner, she is connected and caring. It is a cozy, lovely house and we were heartbroken to find out that when we return in August, it is booked.

A wonderful and welcoming experience!!

Great place for a family trip

  • 5 of 5

Went up there in early September with my family of five and really enjoyed it. Uli, the owner, was very pleasant and easy to work with. The house was well appointed, clean, and comfortable. If you have a large family or travelling with many families, it works well for kids with one bedrooms that has two bunk beds plus another bed as well as a TV (no cable, but does include DVD player). One side note about the kitchen, which is quite excellent, is that if you plan on cooking, be aware that the fire alarm can be a tad sensitive (I managed to set them off twice doing pan-frying).

The location works well if you plan on travelling around the state as it is centrally located to many sights like Quechee Gorge, the town of Woodstock, several wonderful lakes, and some beautiful scenic drives along Route 100. The town of Ludlow itself is quite lovely as well with some fun activities and solid dining choices (Goodman's American Pie and Sam's Steakhouse were great). We definitely would recommend this house to anyone and would book it again for ourselves next time we travel up to Vermont!

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything one can ask for. it is home away from home.

Uli, the owner is very understanding, helpful and kind. I was here for the weekend with a big group of people and we had a fantastic stay. The kitchen is fully loaded, the porch is big and has a beautiful view and my fav spot of the house. The bedrooms and bathrooms are fully furnished. This house didn't look any less when it comes to amenities when compared to a hotel. The Grocery mart and gas station are less than a mile away. The surrounding was peaceful, something a Bostonian like me absolutely loves. So much greenery, ample parking space and the house has free Wifi and smart TV with Netflix. What more can you ask for, totally enjoyed our stay and highly recommended.

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

This house was PERFECT! Spotlessly clean, 5 min to Okemo, and the apartment has a spacious interior with lots of room for your ski gear. It's actually bigger than we expected from the pictures. Kitchen is fully stocked with all the utensils/gadgets/dishes you could possibly need for cooking. Not that you have to cook, since it's only 1/2 mile walk to Ludlow's restaurants and bars. Everything worked perfectly, and we especially enjoyed the hot tub (it, too was spotlessly clean)! Netflix with the big TV was great when we decided to have a lazy night in rather than brave the Vermont winter cold. Uli (the owner) lives close by, and was just a phone call away if we had any questions. This was my best experience yet with a vacation rental - we will definitely rent again!

A Wonderful Weekend

  • 5 of 5

I had been to this spot in Ludlow last year and had such a great time that I decided to organize a birthday weekend this year. Uli stayed out of our way, but was there to help when needed. We especially enjoyed the fall colors and beautiful Vermont nights in the large hot tub. This has to be one of the best places available on HomeAway or AirBnB.

Spacious, convenient and reasonably priced

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house over the President's week in 2012. The owner Uli was very helpful. She keeps the house clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed for a week stay. We were party of 9 and the open plan in the living/dining/kitchen area made our stay even more enjoyable. The house is convenient to Okemo ski area and still reasonably priced. Descriptions ad pictures of the property are fully accurate.

Highly recommended for all seasons.
