Come on out!
Hope to see you soon to welcome you to this unique and delightful beach property in the great Northwest!
We love to be on the beach with our kids, friends, and grandchildren! We sail, too, and have anchored our boat in the bay out front.
Summer crabbing has been abundant most summers. THE best Dungeness Crab!!! Such feasts! And eating freshly caught salmon is superb. My husband, Steve, and I have raised our family in this part of the Northwest, exploring and going on adventures on land and by boat. We enjoy sharing the beauty of this property with others and we love our times here by ourselves, too...the quiet, the water, the birds, the rhythms of the wind and water. Come see!
Lynne Nielsen purchased this house in 2006
We bought our place in 2006 because of its location, right at the entrance to beautiful Hood Canal in Puget Sound, with beaches to walk for miles, and kayaking and boating right from the saltwater beach, and a 270ft private pier. There are several buildings on the property---Heron House is the larger of two rental dwellings (the Kingfisher is smaller yet has access to the same beaches and boats)---and the view to the west with the snow-capped mountains, the birds soaring, the sunsets...well, these things are good food-for-the-soul for us. We do not take any of this beauty for granted, for sure. You'll see for yourself when you come for a stay.
Our family has 'eyes for agates!' Grandpa taught us all how to see them among the other rocks, especially when the sun is at a slant, and the agates just glow as you scan the beach at your feet. And we have sand dollars galore! The 270 ft private pier affords us many hours of fun, fishing and crabbing (in season) and watching the jelly fish travel on their way. Having the pier, and being on the beach, are unique features that we enjoy out here. The neighbors are friendly and respectful. Oh, and sometimes at night you can hear a mama seal with her pup out on our float in the spring. Amazing!
And if you want city-life, there are towns nearby for touring and shopping and eating and movies.
Come on out and see for yourselves!
We'll have the house sparkling clean and ready for you! :)
What a pleasure to arrive at the Heron House and find that all was as anticipated. I had read the reviews by other occupants and was hoping for the best. We were not disappointed. Our mini family reunion was over before it started, but we will forever have the memories of our time together in this charming location.
Thank you Lynne and Steve for the warm welcome.
I brought a group and Lynne was patiently waiting until we got off the Ferry and made our way to the Heron House. Her kindness is genuine and she earnestly wanted to ensure that we have a good time. The vacation rental was great. We would second all the good things that the other reviewers stated: there is indeed an incredible view; the kitchen had what we needed and more. It was clean, comfortable, and had that personal touch throughout.
We came out to do some reflection and business planning. This is a a gem and we intend to return.
Heron House was an absolute treasure. We had intentions of getting out to see the sights and all we wanted to do was stay at the house. There was so much to do and the view was perfection. We enjoyed crabbing off the private pier, digging for clams, and exploring the many tide pools (each one had something different to offer). I have a lot to learn about kayaking and rowboats but it was great to try something new. We spent a night at the private fire pit and just soaked in the sunset. The house had everything we needed and more. The owners were friendly and went the extra mile teaching us all we needed to know about crabbing (and we didn't know much). This was truly a wonderful family vacation.
My wife and I stayed here with my 80+ year-old grandmother, my mother and my brother for 5 nights. It was the perfect place for us to stay while attending a wedding in Sequim, WA. It is perfectly placed between Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula. Each room is appointed with exactly what you need to be comfortable throughout your stay. The kitchen is great for food preparation. We even prepared and served dinner for 11 people, seating everyone comfortably at the dining room table. Each morning there were multiple options for preparing coffee or tea while you sit on the front porch enjoying the true 180 degree views of the water and mountains. We saw many different birds including the hummingbirds which love the feeders the owners have installed around the property. The home is decorated with great artistic touches while still having very comfortable furniture and beds. We loved sitting on the dock and watching the seals as well as fishing for flounder and cod. It was great to sit around the fire pit at night enjoying the sunset which is centered directly over the mountains and water across from the house. If you like to take pictures this is the perfect place. Your subjects include birds/shells/water/sunsets/mountains/boats/tug boats etc. We loved getting a chance to kayak around the area using the extensive choice of kayaks and life jackets. If you like to grill it was a great setting for grilling and as a guy from the southeast it was awesome to grill in June without sweating. Also, as a lover of sports, I was able to watch the NBA finals game with my brother and wife on a large flat-screen HDTV with DirectTV and DVR. One of the things I was most happy about is the ease with which my grandmother could maneuver throughout the property. The master is on the main floor with no steps to this floor or out on the deck. She loved sitting on the deck enjoying the view or sitting in the great room which has views from every angle. If you think that the pictures of the views look great they are even better in person. We never got used to how great the views were. Lastly, the most incredible part of the property are the owners. They are willing to answer any question and are very accessible. However, you probably won't have many question because they have thought of everything and have strategically placed notes to answer questions. I honestly could have stayed for the entire summer and hope to come back when we are not as busy with a wedding during our stay.
We only had time for two nights, but could have stayed a week and not exhausted the things to do. We love the Foul Weather Bluff area because you can walk 4+ miles on the beach in either direction - a rarity anywhere on Puget Sound. The bird and wildlife viewing is wonderful: seals, eagles, osprey, herons, humming birds, sea stars, anemone, crabs, sand dollars, deer, ... And it is fun to come home with a handful of sea glass and lovely shells.
The kayak rack in the boathouse is loaded with excellent boats, completely equipped with everything you need to be safe on the water. The LONG pier makes fishing and crabbing very likely to be successful in season. We loved the fire pit on a cool windy evening.
The home has a very well stocked kitchen - everything from wine glasses (stemmed and stemless) to spices to a Keurig coffee machine, so don't bring anything - they've already got it. All the beds had very comfortable mattresses, even the twins upstairs. The upstairs loft is open up the stairway from the living room, but worked well for us as we all went to bed at the same time. Only one of the 3 bathrooms has a shower. Great selection of movies - but get a demo on changing from TV to DVD from the owner to avoid frustration.
This is a place we wish we owned, a place you can enjoy in all seasons.
When we walked in and saw the wall to wall picture window views of the water and mountains we felt like we were in paradise. The downstairs is spacious and comfortable. The upstairs has a cozy chalet feel. There was more than enough room for the six of us. Everything is beautifully decorated and well thought out with lots of personal touches. The owner has stocked the place with every possible item you could need.
We were able to take advantage of the boats and the beach alot in this calm water section of the Puget Sound area. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We have such an amazing beach to walk for miles, to find shells and agates, take photographs as you watch the entertaining antics of birds and seals and waves making extraordinary patterns and sounds. Our house is comfortable, well-appointed for your relaxation! Plan for some Family Time or a time-for-two. Or a Girlfriends' Getaway! Or invite some fishin' buddies to hang out with you...and conveniently moor your boat on the float at the end of our private pier. This area has many other points of interest, too.
From here you can explore Nordic-style Poulsbo with restaurants, antiquing, shopping, galleries and museums. And the Olympic Peninsula offers sights for day trips, like the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend, the Lavender Festival in Sequim, taking a day trip to the ocean, or hiking our local Hansville Trail System and more. Museums, golfing, nearby casinos, and the quaint Port Gamble General Store serves particularly great breakfasts (25-min.drive). Point No Point Lighthouse tour. Kingston Farmers' Market on Saturdays. Or simply stay put and RELAX! The eagles and ospreys put on quite a show in all kinds of weather!
Point No Point Casino offers headliner-entertainment, and a variety of eating spots--good food. The casino is about 10 minutes from our door, and makes for some fun times with friends, when you are not beach combing or napping or reading just one more chapter of that good book! Our kitchen has EVERYthing you might need for cooking up a storm. Sometimes it is fun to put in a pan of brownies, or get a picnic ready for down by the fire pit. And the stars at night are amazing!
