My wife and I and our two young adult daughters live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. We would love to have you and your family as our guests in our home away from home.
Kevin Forrest purchased this cottage in 2003
My family and I have traveled to Door County since I was a child. My wife and daughters so loved spending time at my parents' home down the road, that we all decided that we wanted to own our very own slice of paradise.
We enjoy the very homey feeling that our property has. It is a very comfortable home with many places for relaxation.
We enjoyed our stay here tremendously! My boys, ages 5 and 8 had so much fun too. House was very clean with plenty of linens. Beds were comfortable and kitchens and baths well stocked with necessities. We had fires both outdoors at the fire pit and indoors at the beautiful stone fireplace. Plenty of wildlife to see too! It was a short drive to other Door County towns where we enjoyed festivals, shops, restaurants and state parks. We would definitely stay again! Oh, the Ping pong table was a big hit with my boys and my husband!
It is a wonderful lil house to spend some time. Al tough we were not there long enough, we instantly felt like we are at home. It is a nice and Cozy house. It is a little old and rustic, but I feel it is a positive for this home. It was quite clean and has all the amenities. I was not expecting internet just wanted to stay away from my mails and work, but for someone who does, there was internet with a decent speed and WiFi.
As for activities, beach is a minute away. Fish creek is about 30 mins drive from this place, where we found the best restaurants.
I would recommend this place to my friends and relatives
We stayed at Hidden Glidden cottage for 4 days in September. The house is pretty much as described however it is not as close to the water as I expected. There are no water views from any window. The walk to the beach is approx 10 min walk. It is too far to take your coffee to the beach in the morning. It was well stocked with condiments and supplies in the kitchen as well as bath necessities. The location of the house is on a very upscale road but a little hard to find in the dark. (we didn't arrive in Sturgeon Bay until 9:00 pm.) Definitely recommend getting your meat from the Valmy Market just north about 8 miles, The brats and steaks are fabulous. Best I have had in years.
We had such a wonderful time. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, with plenty of amenities and staples. Lake Michigan sounds more like the ocean than the ocean! An excellent spot in Sturgeon Bay, close to downtown, shopping, dining and road-tripping. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect getaway! Thank you so much!
The cottage itself was fine, generally clean with the exception of the screened-in porch. The kitchen's set of post-and-pans are only adequate for the most basic cooking. But overall, the residential location was fine and the property has nice outdoor space, though it's a hike to the water's edge. The description of the cottage listed on the site contained the usual effort to upsell a modest home (i.e. an acceptable level of exaggeration), with the exception of the term "luxury" which was a bit of a stretch --only worth a few chuckles to me and my companion until shoddy tilework in the bathroom led to a soap dish literally coming apart in my hand and falling into the bath. Despite my immediate notification to the owner and what seemed to be a polite conversation, the owner decided to take advantage of the situation and tacked bogus charges for damage that neither I, my companion, nor any of my coworkers who gathered around my desk could actually see in his "photo evidence." After receiving increasingly ugly emails from the owner, I just told him I'd send him a check to be done with it, which I did the very next day. Imagine my shock when I found he also started charging my credit card without my permission. The entire incident is worrisome and a true shame, because while the property is theoretically nice enough to rent again, it's simply out of the question for obvious reasons. I have rented several properties in the area before with no problems whatsoever. Troubling!
My wife and I bought my parents a weekend at the Hidden Glidden Cottage as a gift for their 40th wedding anniversary. They absolutely loved this place! The cottage is in a secluded area across from Lake Michigan. Even though are plenty of things to do around Sturgeon Bay, my parents said they stayed in at the cottage on two of the nights because it was so relaxing. They grilled out and walked to the beach. If you want a great meal out, the Glidden Lodge is right down scenic Glidden Road, which they enjoyed on their 3rd night. My parents raved about the Hidden Glidden Cottage. I think I'll rent the place for my wife and I in the future. Finally, the owner, Kevin, was as easy to deal with as anyone I've ever dealt with. Thanks for showing my parents a great time and thanks for making it easy for me!!!
