Sturgeon Bay Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

ONLY 3.5 HOURS FROM THE NORTHERN SUBURBS OF CHICAGO!! Sturgeon Bay is as much as an hour closer and more convenient than many other Door County towns. In fact, from 94/294 all the way to Sturgeon Bay is now all (at least) four-lane highway.

Imagine yourself in this clean and upscale cottage in the woods across the street from Lake Michigan's beaches.................

Hidden Glidden Cottage is a charming and clean and cozy two-bedroom, two bathroom cottage romantically hidden behind a sand dune on scenic Glidden Drive, east of Sturgeon Bay in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin! Glidden Drive meanders peacefully along the Lake Michigan shore. The house is nestled in the woods across the street from the lake and you have beach access rights to a wonderful sandy beach only 250 steps up the road.

You will find that the private, picturesque location boasts decks on all sides of the house, as well as a peaceful screened porch. Since this is our family vacation home, you will find it equipped with all of the niceties and conveniences we like to find when we arrive. In the kitchen you have a microwave oven, full-size oven/stove, full-size refrigerator, disposal, toaster, blender, coffee maker & grinder, small food grinder, pots & pans, glasses, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, etc. In the main bedroom you have a pillow-top queen-size bed, attached, newly remodeled full bath with marble-topped vanity, a Toto toilet and a bathtub, and a television hooked up to cable. The second bedroom features a queen-size bed, a television with cable and small, secluded and private outdoor deck with a porch swing. Both beds are furnished with upscale linens for your comfort. The guest bath features a cheerful sunflower motif and a walk-in shower. The bedrooms have Berber carpet. The great room has Hickory hard-wood floors.

The kitchen is conveniently located in a corner of the great room, which also includes a dining area with a rustic table for six as well as a lounging area in front of a large, wood-burning, fieldstone fireplace. There is a CD/Cassette stereo as well as a television hooked up to cable and DVD/VCR combination. We have also included a small selection of movies, games and books for your enjoyment. The sofa in the great room is a queen-size sleeper. Off to the north of the great room, through French doors, is the peaceful screened porch, which is furnished with comfortable white wicker furniture. Through the wall of windows to the east of the great room is a large deck with adirondak lounging furniture and dining chairs and a table, as well as a gas grill--perfect for outdoor dining and also for curling up in the sun or shade (depending on time of day) with a good book! Nature lovers will adore the view, and there are three bird feeders near the deck, as well as a bird bath. Bird seed can be found in the garage.

For your convenience, there are a full-size washing machine and dryer in the closet adjacent to the entry hall. There are beach towels in the linen closet, and the garage is equipped with beach chairs and toys, tennis racquets, an ocean kayak, a basketball and a couple of children's bicycles.

The rental fee includes all listed conveniences, normal cleaning (no dishes or pots left in the sink), washing of used linens and towels (one set per person staying), local and long distance telephone service and WiFi. We request a Damage/Breakage Deposit, which will be returned to you after the house has been turned over in good condition and we have received the keys back in the mail (if applicable).

No Smoking & No Pets, Please.

About Kevin Forrest

My wife and I and our two young adult daughters live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. We would love to have you and your family as our guests in our home away from home.

Kevin Forrest purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Kevin Forrest chose Sturgeon Bay

My family and I have traveled to Door County since I was a child. My wife and daughters so loved spending time at my parents' home down the road, that we all decided that we wanted to own our very own slice of paradise.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy the very homey feeling that our property has. It is a very comfortable home with many places for relaxation.

Beautiful Cottage in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here tremendously! My boys, ages 5 and 8 had so much fun too. House was very clean with plenty of linens. Beds were comfortable and kitchens and baths well stocked with necessities. We had fires both outdoors at the fire pit and indoors at the beautiful stone fireplace. Plenty of wildlife to see too! It was a short drive to other Door County towns where we enjoyed festivals, shops, restaurants and state parks. We would definitely stay again! Oh, the Ping pong table was a big hit with my boys and my husband!

Cozy, Quite and Homely

  • 5 of 5

It is a wonderful lil house to spend some time. Al tough we were not there long enough, we instantly felt like we are at home. It is a nice and Cozy house. It is a little old and rustic, but I feel it is a positive for this home. It was quite clean and has all the amenities. I was not expecting internet just wanted to stay away from my mails and work, but for someone who does, there was internet with a decent speed and WiFi.

As for activities, beach is a minute away. Fish creek is about 30 mins drive from this place, where we found the best restaurants.

I would recommend this place to my friends and relatives

We stayed at Hidden Glidden cottage for 4 days in September. The house is pretty much as described however it is not as close to the water as I expected. There are no water views from any window. The walk to the beach is approx 10 min walk. It is too far to take your coffee to the beach in the morning. It was well stocked with condiments and supplies in the kitchen as well as bath necessities. The location of the house is on a very upscale road but a little hard to find in the dark. (we didn't arrive in Sturgeon Bay until 9:00 pm.) Definitely recommend getting your meat from the Valmy Market just north about 8 miles, The brats and steaks are fabulous. Best I have had in years.

Autumn Paradise

We had such a wonderful time. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, with plenty of amenities and staples. Lake Michigan sounds more like the ocean than the ocean! An excellent spot in Sturgeon Bay, close to downtown, shopping, dining and road-tripping. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect getaway! Thank you so much!

Troubling Experience at Hidden Glidden

  • 1 of 5

The cottage itself was fine, generally clean with the exception of the screened-in porch. The kitchen's set of post-and-pans are only adequate for the most basic cooking. But overall, the residential location was fine and the property has nice outdoor space, though it's a hike to the water's edge. The description of the cottage listed on the site contained the usual effort to upsell a modest home (i.e. an acceptable level of exaggeration), with the exception of the term "luxury" which was a bit of a stretch --only worth a few chuckles to me and my companion until shoddy tilework in the bathroom led to a soap dish literally coming apart in my hand and falling into the bath. Despite my immediate notification to the owner and what seemed to be a polite conversation, the owner decided to take advantage of the situation and tacked bogus charges for damage that neither I, my companion, nor any of my coworkers who gathered around my desk could actually see in his "photo evidence." After receiving increasingly ugly emails from the owner, I just told him I'd send him a check to be done with it, which I did the very next day. Imagine my shock when I found he also started charging my credit card without my permission. The entire incident is worrisome and a true shame, because while the property is theoretically nice enough to rent again, it's simply out of the question for obvious reasons. I have rented several properties in the area before with no problems whatsoever. Troubling!

Owner's Response: Our track record of returning the Damage/Breakage Deposit over a period of eight years is that once we have kept the entire amount, due to a guest burning our garage, and this time, we kept part of it only to cover the actual cost of the repairs necessitated after this guest vacated the cottage. The responsibility for damage that occurs during a guests stay is clearly stated in our rental agreement, which was signed by this guest, and it was stated that this financial responsibility was to be taken from the Deposit, which was provided in the form of a credit card. This guest also removed the Guest Book, which we had to call to follow up on and was then returned to us. We have rented to litterally hundreds of guests over the past eight years and never had one who tried to shirk responsibility for damage that they caused. If other Owners read this and want to avoid a situation like this, please contact me.

Simply Awesome!!!

My wife and I bought my parents a weekend at the Hidden Glidden Cottage as a gift for their 40th wedding anniversary. They absolutely loved this place! The cottage is in a secluded area across from Lake Michigan. Even though are plenty of things to do around Sturgeon Bay, my parents said they stayed in at the cottage on two of the nights because it was so relaxing. They grilled out and walked to the beach. If you want a great meal out, the Glidden Lodge is right down scenic Glidden Road, which they enjoyed on their 3rd night. My parents raved about the Hidden Glidden Cottage. I think I'll rent the place for my wife and I in the future. Finally, the owner, Kevin, was as easy to deal with as anyone I've ever dealt with. Thanks for showing my parents a great time and thanks for making it easy for me!!!
