Your hosts: Your hosts have many years in the hospitality business, have lived on the island for 12 years and are on-site to assist when you have questions.
The surrounding area: The villa is set on elevated ground with views of both the North and South shores of this tropical island paradise. From our own dock you can kayak across the sheltered bay to the deserted island of Moriah Cay. This large marine sanctuary is where young grouper fish, rays, turtles and conch grow to maturity. The island has miles of white soft sand beaches to walk and search for shells. Or explore the inland lake and watch the Ospreys fishing. The colors of the waters vary according to the depth, from dark turquoise to pale green. The chances are that the only footsteps you will see are your own. Rent a car and explore the island and visit the many picture perfect beaches... That's why Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed here. According to MNBC Exuma is among the top 5 tropical islands you must visit. We hope to see you.
Things to Do: Whether you sport is scuba diving or kiteboarding, snorkeling or just relaxing in the sun on a pristine beach, Exuma can provide the venue and Harbour View the setting.
You could eat out at a different restaurant every day, many located on a beach, where local fare such as Conch, either as cracked conch (fried in batter) or conch salad, or fresh grouper or lobster. If international cuisine is more to your taste we have Sandals Resort where you can get a day pass.
We have managed rental properties for over 10 years in The Bahamas. We know the Islands and we are here to ensure that your vacation is one to remember.
We are yards from the Ocean in an area of protected water with offshore deserted islands that are designated as a marine reserve and accessible with our kayaks. We are mid way between the Eastern and Western Ends of the island and close to the best beaches.
The only way to access the marine reserve on Moriah Cay is by kayak or boat from Hartswell. It cannot be reached by a rental boat from George Town.
My husband and I stayed at Harbour view for the best 9 days of my adult life. My husband planned the trip and I went into it with no expectations to avoid disappointment but even if I would have set my expectations as high as possible, this vacation would have exceeded them.
We had a rough travel day, so finally arriving on the island and getting our first glimpse of the most saturated turquoise water we had ever seen, sinking our tired feet into the white powdery sand, while feeling the warm tropical breeze on our skin, set all the stress of the day far, far behind us.
We rented a car to explore the island, which is absolutely recommended. There is so much to see, so a car is a must. Adjusting to driving on the opposite side of the road was an adventure straight out of the gate, but provided some good laughs. When we arrived at Harbour View, which was less than 30 minutes from the airport, we were greeted with 2 warm smiles from Don & Gail. I knew instantly that they were kind and genuine folks, which was comforting. They made us feel right at home and gave us the best advice when we asked all throughout our stay.
The room is lovely. You can't beat the view from the bed. It was incredible waking up to a view of the Mariah Harbour Cay every morning. The kitchen had everything we needed and we loved the shower. We enjoyed many evenings on the lovely spacious deck as well.
If you're worried about what to do and how to navigate the island, if you stay at Harbour View, scratch that off the things-to-worry-about list, because Don has created the Holy Grail of information about the island in the form of a binder full of restaurant suggestions, beaches & maps of how to get to everything. It was invaluable. We didn't leave the house without it. Don and Gail are also there whenever you have questions about anything. You only see or hear them when you need them. I don't know how they did it but we felt totally secluded and alone but with one ring of a bell, they were right there with loads of great information. We really appreciated that.
The best part about Harbour View were the kayaks. Don loans them out for you to kayak and explore The Moriah Harbour Cay. It was our first time kayaking and we LOVED it! It will certainly not be the last time. We chose to explore the Cay 3 days out of the 9. Let me tell ya... It. Is. Beautiful. We visited 8 beaches along the island and the Moriah Harbour Cay was our favorite. And we didn't see one single person any of those day
We had an AWESOME week with Don and Gail as our hosts. We enjoyed the Exumas, its many beaches and people. Much to see and do for beach lovers. Many uncrowded beautiful beaches, waters of so many colors, sand bars, shells and sand dollars to be found. Don and Gail were always there to help us find any places to go and recommend different restaurants, beaches or tours. We Loved kayaking to Moriah Cay, peace quiet and the whole island to our selves. We enjoyed staying at Harbour View, great location, spacious and comfortable with amazing views. If you think I said beaches to many times, you need to GO AND SEE!!!!!!!! Thank you Don and Gail for a great anniversary trip.
Highly recommend Harbour View for an authentic Exuma vacation, peaceful, restful, and good value. The listing description is accurate, the location is off the beaten track and well-placed to take advantage of the best part of the island -- between George Town and Little Exuma -- pristine beaches mainly deserted and beautiful. Moriah Cay a paradise in itself across the sound by kayak where yours are the only footprints on the beach. Don and Gail excellent hosts. Enjoy!
I absolutely recommend staying at this property. What a view! And being so close to the water, and kayaking over to some gorgeous uninhabited islands, makes you feel as though you're the only people vacationing on the island! We appreciated having Don and Gail available to help us find things to see or do, and they even contacted a company for us to book us a trip to swim with sharks and pigs. I suggest you do this tour (4 C's adventures) as well as go down to Little Exuma to visit Mom's Bakery (closed at 5pm but she reopened for us a bit after!) and try her pineapple and coconut tarts, banana bread and coconut bread. WOW! Good stuff!
Perfect accommodation for a couple that are comfortable in the islands. Located about 15 mins from Georgetown and 15 mins from Santana's overlooking the Maritime preserve.
Don and Gail are the perfect hosts, easy to deal with and available to help one with whatever assistance you can reasonably need.
Must do's include eating the lobster at Santana's, the turtles at Hoopers Bay and kayaking over to Moriah Cay.
This is the third time my wife and I have visited ‘Harbour View’ and for good reason, this is truly a unique location for a holiday with a stunning views right from your bedroom window and access to some fabulous beaches. If you want a quiet, ‘get away from it all’ experience you’ve found the right place.
To fully appreciate Exuma it’s necessary to rent a car as your location is fairly remote, we’ve used Thompson’s each time and have been pleased with their service - no hassles and reliability each time. This allows you to visit the various lovely beaches that the island has to offer and of course to pick up supplies when needed from the Georgetown supermarket. Our teenage kids accompanied us for the first time and we spent many occasions together snorkeling in different locations being witness to so much of the undersea life that this part of the world has to offer. Sting Rays, barracudas, Moray eels, turtles, lobsters, a nurse shark and of course too many different types of colorful fish to describe. Alas no dolphin this time but not to worry as it just gives us an excuse to return! After this experience we’re going to have to look at scuba lessons……..
A highlight of any visit should be a kayak trip to the nearby Moriah Cay or Man O’ War Cay, there are two tandem kayaks available to use and it’s only a short distance away to either one of these islands from Harbour View, bring a pack lunch with you and a bunch of sunscreen! These Cays are both uninhabited and gorgeous, deserted beaches with turquoise water will take your breath away.
Renting a small boat from Minns Watersports to visit the islands surrounding Elizabeth Harbour is highly recommended also, again many lovely beaches small and large to experience and the added bonus of Chat N Chill’s on Stocking Island - great burger shack not to be missed!
And of course Don and Gail Amesbury, your hosts living downstairs, wonderful people and long term residents of Exuma who have extensive knowledge of the island, always ready to offer suggestions for activities but also respectful of your privacy.
we can’t wait to go back!
A week's stay in Exuma provided exactly the much needed peace and relaxation we so desperately needed. Gail and Don were terrific hosts, offering suggestions and making arrangements for trips and meals to ensure that we made the most of our trip. Harbour View is easy to find -- especially with Don's excellent directions, and is located about a 20 minute drive from town. The views from the upstairs apartment truly are beautiful and the stars at night are just breathtaking. The one bedroom is perfect for couples who enjoy being out and about during the day and who appreciate quiet evenings. During our trip, we made use of the kayak (thanks to Don's instructions), visited private beaches, met amazing people, and enjoyed the Bahamian lifestyle. Based upon Don and Gail's advice, we dined at (and loved) Tropic Breeze, Santana's and Peace and Plenty. I do recommend that if you are in need of a few food items/beverages that you visit Sheila's little convenience store which is within walking distance from Harbour View. This was an amazing trip that we will not soon forget!
Our home is 60 yards from the Ocean and off the main highway. We have our own dock and kayak launch slip. We overlook Moriah Harbour Cay which is a deserted and protected marine reserve. The waters between our home and the Cays are sheltered and calm and a 10 minute kayak ride takes you to the beautiful beaches and warm turquoise waters that the Bahamas are famous for and where yours will be the only footprints. Voted one of the five best islands to live in a recent MSNBC article. The area is recognized as one of the best for Bone fishing.
Other Activities: fishing, bone fishing, kite boarding, shelling, wind surfing, snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, sun bathing, beach exploring, boat trips, kayaking, paddle boarding, perfecting the art of doing nothing!
Golf: Golf is available at The Sandals Resort at Emerald Bay
