Hale Moana Mele is a delightful large vacation rental home located on one of Oahu's nicest sandy bottomed swimming beaches. Hale Moana Mele is a newly furnished 4 bedroom home which fronts a sandy beach and ocean front yard complete with coconut palms and a lush tropical garden. Walk out of the gated front yard onto a gorgeous postcard beautiful white sandy beach....which is protected by an outer reef making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling or just playing in the gentle surf…..fun for all ages. An early morning walk on the mostly deserted beach will convince you that you are really in paradise. Often the only footprints in the sand are yours. You are lulled to sleep at night by the soft sounds of the waves….thus the name Hale Moana Mele or House of Ocean Music.
This very special home is located in Hauula, a sleepy rural coastal village nestled between the mountains and the sea. Hale Moana Mele is a welcome retreat from the frantic hustle and bustle of Honolulu’s busy cosmopolitan lifestyle. Hauula is close to The Polynesian Cultural Center, Turtle Bay Hotel, golf, tennis and other popular attractions. A bit further on the scenic drive along the ocean you will come to historic Haleiwa town and world famous surfing sites of Sunset Beach, Bonsai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. A bus stop across the street provides easy access to the great around island bus service in case you are the only one in your group who wants to shop in Waikiki or visit a museum in downtown Honolulu.
Hale Moana Mele's first floor features a large modern kitchen completely equipped to prepare and serve a gourmet meal. This lovely home is newly furnished in tasteful Polynesian décor. The living area, dining room, bathroom and one of the twin bedrooms are on this floor.
On the second floor the large master bedroom suite and private bath has 12 foot sliding glass doors which open to the expansive ocean view from your king size bed. The second ocean view bedroom and the third bedroom share an adjacent bathroom. A lanai runs the full length of the second story and is a delightful place to sit and relax in the morning to greet the tropical sunrise.
A covered patio at the yard level is complimented with a large table and chairs, lounges and a hammock for your idyllic comfort. Also included are boogie boards and a collection of masks, reef walkers and snorkels for your use although we can’t guarantee they will fit everyone. A charcoal BBQ rounds out the outdoor accessories.
You deserve a truly relaxing tropical idyll and this unusual unique island paradise, Hale Moana Mele, is the perfect place to enjoy it..
Hale Moana Mele has been our family home for almost 24 years...born and raised in Hawaii, we found this home to be everything we remembered of old Hawaii. We are now sharing this unique home for others to enjoy.
Norman purchased this house in 1987
We arrived at this beautiful home on New Year's Eve, 2014. Made a quick run into the Laie Foodland to stock up on essentials and then spent the evening watching the fireworks up and down the coast from the balcony. The house is in a perfect location for those who want to get away from it all.
Our three adult children had more room than they needed. We could have accommodated many more people than our family of five. Beds comfortable and clean. House well stocked with basics. BYO water toys--most of the ones at the house are pretty dingy, but the souvenir shop across the street has everything you need, and cheap. We played about 30 games of croquet in-between our beach walks and ocean swims. Monk seal sunned on the beach right near the house for three of the days we were there.
Highly recommend! Never wanted to leave..
What a beautiful home! And I say home, not rental property, because it felt as if you were staying with family. The owner, manager and neighbor all checked in with us, especially with an impending hurricane (it turned out to be just a tropical storm). The layout was perfect for our group, with everyone having their own personal space. My husband and I loved waking up to the view from the master bedroom.
They thought of everything here- towels laid out on each bed (including a beach towel), any type of water equipment you can imagine (aqua socks, snorkel masks, flippers, boogie boards, inflatables), and our family favorite- BINGO!
We liked being away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki yet being close to conveniences like the gift shop across the street, and Tamura's market and Long's Drugs (a 3 minute drive). The drive from Honolulu is scenic, although a little intimidating at night. The biggest challenge was parking the minivan in the garage-we just had to park at an angle.
Thanks for helping make our vacation a dream!
We had a wonderful time! We had 8 total including a 1 year old. The house was set up just right or out needs including a crib and high chair. We had morning and evening walks on an almost private beach, nothing like Waikiki. We enjoyed our lazy afternoon naps on the hammock with the sounds of the ocean. The house had all the necessary beach gear a family could need. Boogie boards, rafts, snorkel gear, sand toys. But truly, nothing beats the view!! Thank you Norman.
This was our second time back to Hale Moana Mele, and I can assure you, this place just gets better each time.
It’s hard to put into words how stunningly beautiful the surrounding areas are. The glistening clear water outside your doorstep meeting the emerald landscape of the mountains of the Hau’ula Loop Trail in the background is an awe-inspiring view. This place has an ethereal quality that is hard to define, but unforgettable.
The house itself is wonderful. Our family of 5 had more than enough space to spread out and feel at home. It’s hard not to love the home, as the views are incredible from practically every room. To look out of your bedroom window and see endless ocean is an unbelievable sight. The kitchen is well stocked with pans, dishes, knives, etc. Our “foodie” family had no problem making any meal that popped up in our heads with the supplies provided in the kitchen. We often drove down the street to some of the nearby fruit stands and bought some of the juiciest golden pineapple I have ever tried. With all the beautiful local produce so easily accessible, it’s hard not to be inspired by these ingredients to make a wonderful meal. (However, there were times that we wanted to go out and grab some local dishes…Papa Ole’s was great. Order the Kalbi Ribs). We ate nearly every meal outside under the patio and we enjoyed every minute of it.
The backyard is a perfect family setting. The lawn is perfect for laying out or for a quick soccer or volleyball game. But the crown jewel of the backyard is obviously the beach. This beach is idyllic. You practically have the entire thing to yourself. The water was always warm, always clear, and always welcoming. The gentle waves were perfect for swimming, floating around in our bright pink inflatable donuts, or even kayaking (we rented kayaks from nearby store). Needless to say, we spent most of our time in the water. We even saw some sea turtles while floating around! Also, if you take a three minute walk down the beach, there is a little cove that is perfect for snorkeling. We saw brightly colored fish, coral and beautiful shells. There was really no need to leave the house.
Overall, there’s nothing I could really say that would explain the unbelievable beauty that surrounds the home. The stunningly green mountains and brilliantly blue ocean of various hues comprise an idyllic wonderland perfect for a tropical family getaway. We're already planning our third trip.
Four adults and four teens shared this beautiful home for 7 nights. The house is easy to find and conveniently located to shopping, snorkeling, restaurants, etc. The kitchen had all we needed when we wanted to eat in and the beds and linens were very comfortable.
Air conditioning in the bedrooms was welcome for sleeping. The downstairs was kept cool by keeping the doors open with the ocean breeze. The house is well maintained with a set of towels laid out on each bed welcoming us (including a beach towel for each of us).
We loved the convenience of a sandy beach right in our backyard and also a large grassy area that hosted some awesome croquet matches. You could sit along the back of the grassy area and not get sandy while enjoying watching the surf lap against the beach.
The owner was responsive to my texts and questions and did check in but not in an intruding way. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing get away. We stayed here after four nights in Honolulu so we were ready to relax. The home is close enough to the North Shore shops and dining.....but not too close.
TO DO: I would highly recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center, snorkeling at Hale'ewa Alli'i Beach Park in the afternoon (if you want to see Seat Turtles up close and in person), snorkeling at Sharks Cove, and North Shore Surf Girls surf lessons.
TO EAT: North Shore Taco's (PORK TACO's!!), Naughty Bits Garlic Shrimp, and Papa Ole's.
Our family of 7 (grandparents, parents and 3 teenagers) loved staying in Norman's home. It is oceanfront and has it own sandy beach. There are several ocean toys and lawn chairs.
Bedrooms are air conditioned (needed for sleeping for spoiled mainland people ) and kitchen is very well equipped for all culinary needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our mornings with Hawaiian coffee and fresh fruit and evenings with refreshments on the upper and lower deck. This is a million dollar view. We have stayed in resorts and prefer the laid back feel for the more authentic Hawaiian experience. Hauula is a very friendly town.
We had one hiccup with a/c and wifi but Norman was very apologetic and accommodated us for our inconvenience.
Be sure to try Halewia Joes for dinner.
We only wish that we could stay longer
