Fishing Information for Lake:
Kindrum - This lake has a surface area of 67 HA and is easily fished from the shore. There is an excellent stock of wild browns and a significant number of char. The principle diet is sticklebacks, cased caddis and snails but corixids, chronomids and dragonfly nymphs also feature. Early in the season spinning is more successful but later fly angling is more likely to succeed and all patterns are useful.
Best Flies: Mallard and Claret; Fiery Brown; Sedges
Fanad Head Area:
This beautiful peninsula stretches north from the village of Milford to Fanad Head and back down to the Georgian village of Ramelton. It has some of the most remarkable cliff scenery in Ireland, including outstanding examples of marine erosion. Knockalla Coast Road offers a spectacular drive overlooking Lough Swilly and Inishowen. The Fanad Peninsula Scenic Tour is a 72 km signposted circuit of the peninsula through breathtaking scenery.
Along the Lough Swilly coastline there are impressive fortifications, built during Napoleonic times - indeed, one of these, on the shore front in Rathmullan, now houses the 'Flight of the Earls' heritage centre while the other 2 are privately owned.
A visit to the exotic Ballydaheen Gardens, just outside Portsalon rewards you with a fabulous walk through ornate shrubbery and along the cliff tops to an elaborate array of sea caves.
Golf:
Golf at Portsalon Golf Club
Portsalon has received many great reviews over the years and with its fantastic new course is once again catching the eye of the many visitors at the magnificent links course overlooking Lough Swilly and great backdrop of Knockalla mountain.
Portsalon, dating back to 1891, is less well known but equally deserving of its fine reputation as a true links in the old style. Stretching along Portsalon beach on the shores of Lough Swilly and protected from north and west winds by the majestic mountains of Donegal are those narrow undulating fairways winding through deep dunes. Soft sand bunkers, large natural greens and meandering streams offer the golfer testing and enjoyable golf on a links steeped in history.
Portsalon is one of those little known gems found in north Donegal, friendly and informal with stunnign views to mellow the most ardent golfer. You will wonder then, why there are no crowded fairways or difficulty arranging tee times and why green fees are so very, very reasonable.
Take the time to visit Portsalon and enjoy golf in this natural, uncrowded links land that has been waiting for you for thousands of years.
