Guestbook comments from the manager
Really enjoyed my stay at your cabin! Quiet, clean, beautifully furnished, and did I mentioned QUIET? Close enough to town to visit the local community and had the best omelet I have ever had at the local diner on Main Street. It had everything I needed and more-wish I could have stayed longer.

We've always loved the mountains and Hot Springs is a delightful little village on the Appalachian Trail. The French Broad River is an added boost, with fly-fishing, rafting and swimming. We've replaced the mattress, built a fire-pit with deck, are adding screens and changing out some furnishings for an even better experience.

Beautiful and Magical

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Sherwood in March of 2012. It was great. Not only is the setting beautiful, but it has a spacious wrap-around deck with a hot tub that is perfect for enjoying the views. We also really enjoyed using the outdoor fire pit for making smores and sitting around a camp fire. The cabin was adorable inside--rustic yet polished and comfortable. We loved the soft bed and the fireplace. Sure, we didn't get cell phone reception up there, but really, isn't that why you go on vacation?

Additionally, the area is filled with wonderful hiking trails, and we loved biking along the river, too. It's also quite close to Asheville, so you can easily take a day trip to the city. Overall, this was a great vacation, and we constantly talk about going back.

Beautiful setting, horrendous bed, among other problems

  • 3 of 5
Sherwood cabin is in a lovely location, secluded and beautiful. But the cabin has some serious drawbacks, such that unless addressed, I would suggest going elsewhere.

First, the bed on the first floor is simply atrocious and needs to be replaced. The mattress has a giant crater in the center and you will spend all night rolling into it. When you turn onto your side, you can feel the springs.

Second, the cabin is not well cleaned. Superficially all the surfaces are fine, but if you happen to put a bag against the wall, it will come away covered in gross stuff.

Third, when we arrived after a long day of travel, the hot tub was half full and 65 degrees. In order to get it turned on we had to find the outdoor hose and fill it. Why, you might wonder, did we not just call the property manager? Well, there's no phone or cell coverage. In the event of a problem or even an emergency, there's no way to call for help.

Fourth, the gas fireplace needs maintenance, as it doesn't turn on properly some of the time. Some of the burners will light, but not all. However, they continue to emit gas--a fact which we noticed after becoming rather lightheaded. This is quite dangerous, and of course, the result is that you can't use the fireplace.

Owner's Response: We try to take the good care of our property, and from other reviews and guests, we usually accomplish that.
Our Property Manager ensures that the housekeeping is kept up, and checked regularly. We schedule Spring and Fall "Deep Cleanings" when vacancies allow. The fireplace has been checked by the gas company and they found no problems. Just in case, there is a smoke and carbon monoxide detector and they were checked, and are working properly.
Since your visit we've replaced the mattress and frame. We're also in the process of installing screens for seasonal ventilation.
The cabin is private, which means near the top of a mountain, but Verizon phones work fine and the property manager is located about one mile down the hill.
We appreciate any feedback, and we'll continue to spot check the cabin to ensure things are kept in order.

Home away from Home

This cabin was amamzing!! It was cozy, romantic, secluded. My husband and I sat in the hot tub and watched deer walk around the property, went for walks/hikes (around the town and around the house). The bed was extremely comfortable. I loved the wood details all over the cabin. We love this cabin and will definitely be coming back many times.

A few things to know before you arrive and after:
1. Get groceries before you get into the town of Hot Springs-there is not a grocery store only a Dollar Store
2. Read the instruction book on the kitchen table-before trying to start the fire.

Loved it!

  • 4 of 5
We loved the cabin and had a perfect weekend there. The grill and fire pit were great in the evenings and the coziness of the inside was just right for two. The location is private and scenic, which was exactly what we were looking for. We'll definitely book here again! Great cabin!

Great Place!

  • 4 of 5
We loved this cabin, especially its location! It was secluded and private and a great proximity to Hot Springs. Also, it was perfectly cozy and clean and we absolutely hated to leave. The best thing we did in town was eat at the Magnolia Inn - highly recommended!

I would have given the cabin 5 stars if it had a bigger bed and fridge, but they are updating the kitchen soon, so that will make it even better. Even still, I'll definitely pick this place again next fall without even thinking about shopping around.

best place to relax

  • 5 of 5
The First time we stayed here, I was blown away with the location. Beautiful views, perfect little spot to chill and unwind. The hot tub was my main area, the fire pit was a great gathering spot, and we loved reading and watching the wildlife. If you're considering staying in Hot Springs, you need to book here
