About Ann Harold, French Broad Real Estate Company

We've always loved the mountains and Hot Springs is a delightful little village, with great restaurants, interesting local shops and literally on the Appalachian Trail. The French Broad River is an added boost, with fly-fishing, rafting and swimming and just plain relaxing.

Over the past few months we have replaced the interior window treatments, added window screens, replaced and added several pieces of furniture, added chairs and a hammock to the fit pit area, upgraded the landscaping (an ongoing effort!), upgraded kitchen cookware and utensils, upgraded the gas fire place, added games, books and magazines to enhance the cabin experience and added a phone for our guests' use.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Really enjoyed my stay at your cabin! Quiet, clean, beautifully furnished, and did I mentioned QUIET? Close enough to town to visit the local community and had the best omelet I have ever had at the local diner on Main Street. It had everything I needed and more-wish I could have stayed longer.

Perfect getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We have rented many cabins in the past and this one is by far the best! The location was great. It was close to town and also close to the Recreational National Forrest. Sight seeing was awesome! We didn't have to drive far at all for scenic pictures and views of the mountains.

Upon arrival there were a few minor wear and tears that we noticed. The porch light by the hot tub doesn't work, the electric outlet cover by the hot tub was broken, the lamp by the bed doesn't work, the screws are loose on the back door's knob and the toilet seat was also loose.

Overall, we had a great time and plan to return soon. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Our stay at Sherwood

  • 5 of 5

We loved Sherwood cabin! We stayed for the weekend and enjoyed hiking part of the Appalachian trail and the spa but we also spent a lot of time just relaxing in the cabin. The fireplace is perfect for a little extra warmth and adding an even cozier feeling to the place. We brought our own food and cooked and just had a very relaxing weekend. The only thing I would say to caution future visitors is depending on the time of year, the road getting up there is steep and was snow covered when we went (end of February) so be careful.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review and glad you enjoyed Sherwood Cabin during the cold month of February. You are right that road can be formidable after a big snow which is when you were up. Sounds like it was worth the adventure! Try us again in the summertime.

Great laid back cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great cabin for my wife and me. It made for a nice break away from our usual daily grind. A great little fireplace, relaxing hot tub, and nice quaint accommodations with a view. It was actually too cold while we were there to use the fire pit, but it looked like it would've been awesome fun. It is high atop a steep and mostly gravel/dirt road, so be sure you have a vehicle with at least decent ground clearance. Great getaway cabin!

Amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was so wonderful. Very secluded and had really everything that we needed. A small fridge and itty bitty stove were a lovely touch. The hot tub was amazing. The road to get to the cabin is definitely made for 4-wheel drive vehicles, but that was part of the charm. We also went into town and ate at several restaurants--so lovely! Actually, we probably ate at every restaurant! The hot springs at the spa were so wonderful, too.

Owner's Response: Thanks very much Natalie for taking the time to give this wonderful review. We hope you become one of our return guests. Most of have front wheel drive and manage fine on that road but certainly 4WD makes it a breeze!

Beautiful and Magical

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Sherwood in March of 2012. It was great. Not only is the setting beautiful, but it has a spacious wrap-around deck with a hot tub that is perfect for enjoying the views. We also really enjoyed using the outdoor fire pit for making smores and sitting around a camp fire. The cabin was adorable inside--rustic yet polished and comfortable. We loved the soft bed and the fireplace. Sure, we didn't get cell phone reception up there, but really, isn't that why you go on vacation?

Additionally, the area is filled with wonderful hiking trails, and we loved biking along the river, too. It's also quite close to Asheville, so you can easily take a day trip to the city. Overall, this was a great vacation, and we constantly talk about going back.

Beautiful setting, horrendous bed, among other problems

  • 3 of 5

Sherwood cabin is in a lovely location, secluded and beautiful. But the cabin has some serious drawbacks, such that unless addressed, I would suggest going elsewhere.

First, the bed on the first floor is simply atrocious and needs to be replaced. The mattress has a giant crater in the center and you will spend all night rolling into it. When you turn onto your side, you can feel the springs.

Second, the cabin is not well cleaned. Superficially all the surfaces are fine, but if you happen to put a bag against the wall, it will come away covered in gross stuff.

Third, when we arrived after a long day of travel, the hot tub was half full and 65 degrees. In order to get it turned on we had to find the outdoor hose and fill it. Why, you might wonder, did we not just call the property manager? Well, there's no phone or cell coverage. In the event of a problem or even an emergency, there's no way to call for help.

Fourth, the gas fireplace needs maintenance, as it doesn't turn on properly some of the time. Some of the burners will light, but not all. However, they continue to emit gas--a fact which we noticed after becoming rather lightheaded. This is quite dangerous, and of course, the result is that you can't use the fireplace.

Owner's Response: We try to take the good care of our property, and from other reviews and guests, we usually accomplish that. Our Property Manager ensures that the housekeeping is kept up, and checked regularly. We schedule Spring and Fall "Deep Cleanings" when vacancies allow. Note - bed was replaced last year (2014), The fireplace logs were replaced in January, 2015 (for energy efficiency) and a phone has been installed. We appreciate any feedback, and we'll continue to spot check the cabin to ensure things are kept in order.
