Enjoy breathtaking unlimited views of nearby islands, sensational sunsets, turtles feeding year around and whale watching in Winter from your own private paradise. Our irresistible home is located on private property, surrounded by fruit trees, gardens and lush green grass in Makena Maui. It is one of the finest, truly unique hidden Hawaiian places.

Decorated in casual island style, the homes main dwelling has 1 bedroom with queen bed, 1 full bath , living dining room combination with a full size kitchen. Attached to the main home is a private master suite with a queen bed, full bath, sitting area and hot tub with beautiful ocean views. You can rented the cottage for 2 people or the cottage and master suite for 4 people. Maximum 4 guests total. Amenities included are barbecue, cable TV/VCR/DVD, stereo with CD/tape, cordless phone, and washer/dryer, ceiling fans, fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, and microwave.

Things to do...: Take advantage of the excellent snorkeling and scuba diving in front of your own cottage. Feed the fish in the tide pools or search for sea shells. Look for turtles eatingthe seaweed off the rocks as you sit in your lounge chair. There is not a better place to kayak on Maui and they are available to rent nearby. Walk to nearby white sand beach - Makena Beach. Big Beach, which for years has been voted best beach in Hawaii, is a 5 minute drive from the cottage. If you dont feel like cooking enjoy the wonderful restaurants at the Maui Prince Hotel which is a 5 minute scenic walk. Keawalai Historical Church is located just 5 doors down.

Makena Memories: Our home has such wonderful memories for me...My grandparents originally built the little cottage as a place to come to on the weekend to go 'Hukilau' which means fishing. My first memories are of the original design of the house...it was completely open on the front. Where the bedroom is now, had benches all the way around the sides. In the middle where the bathroom is, was where they locked up the bedding and cots. The kitchen was the kitchen and the bathroom was actual built next to the cottage and my grandfather kept his most precious posessions in there...his lawn mower and fishing nets. We had so much fun, everyone together like a big camp out, some in hammocks others on army cots, but all of us watching the fireworks in the sky. What I realized as I got older was that it wasnt fire works but the military bombing Koholawe island.

Through the years I learned how special our place is. I grew up there, learned to swim, got married there and now my son gets to experience it too.

  • To clarify if you didn't understand through our property description, we have a master suite that can be rented in addition to the cottage to make it a 2 br rental. Max is 4 people.
    Low Season 1 bedroom is $350 per night

    High Season 1 bedroom is $400 per night
    High Season 2 bedroom is $500 per night.

    This rate doesn't include the cleaning fee, damage deposit, and tax.
  • A deposit of $400 is required to confirm reservation.
    Payment in full must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to arrival.
    If staying less than seven nights, a cleaning fee of $125.00 for cottage, $150 for cottage and master suite is required.
    Extended stays of 2 weeks or longer require periodic cleaning to be charged at the current rate.
    Cancellation policy: Deposit is refundable if cancellation notice is received 30 days prior to arrival.

Amazing View!

We had a wonderful 10 days staying at this cottage! The setting is absolutely beautiful and the cottage's windows take perfect advantage of that, when you have to be inside. Otherwise you will want to be outdoors enjoying all there is do. Snorkeling right off the property was great! The reef there is incredible and we couldn't believe how many sea turtles were swimming along with us. During whale season (which it was while we were there) we could see whales regularly from the yard or the house. The fruit trees in the yard were fabulous and we picked a fresh lime each day for our Coronas! Makena Landing is a quick walk and that is where most of the kayak/snorkeling trips take off in the area. It's also a quick walk to the resort where a whale watching excursion leaves. We were able to walk right up the street to a lovely Hawaiin church to attend their Palm Sunday service, as well. We spent a lot of time at Big Beach which is a very short drive from the cottage and is not only incredibly beautiful but much less crowded than the resort beaches. The cottage has a wonderful library of books on Maui, including up to date restaurant guides which were very helpful. Lots of great restaurants in Wailea and Kihei and we even drove over to Lahaina a couple of nights.

The cottage itself is very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. The towels which were provided were very nice and thick and there were plenty of them including a couple of beach towels. The shed out back had lots of snorkeling gear, beach chairs, a cooler, and even bikes. Beds were extremely comfortable. Of course it helps to sleep well with the sound of the waves right outside your windows! Another of my favorite things about the house was showering in the master bath which has a glass block wall that hits at about shoulder level so that you are able to see the fabulous view while you shower! I could go on, but you get the picture. Not only will I recommend this place to friends, we recommended it to several people that we met while we were in Maui. The owner, Wendi and Frank were extremely easy to work with and very quick to respond to any questions we had. We can't wait to return to Maui and this beach cottage!

True Vacation Paradise

My wife and I stayed in December 2011 for 4 nights. The cottage is a fantastic location with a breath taking view and sunsets. Snorkeling, swimming, kayaking and turtles swimming right outside your door. Very comfortable inside and out. Equipped with everything you need for the beach. Frank and Wendy were delightful to deal with, very accommodating. I hope you enjoy as much as we did.

Absolute serenity

This was the most incredible place I have stayed in Maui...I will never go to a big resort again. Amazing snorkeling and sea kayaking right outside the back yard gate. Freshest bananas and coconuts, right in your own space. Neighbors were very friendly as well.
My expectations were exceeded, even the beds were comfy. High quality everything, highly recommend to anyone, I will be back, over and over again!!! Nothing about this property let me down, except that i had to leave :(

Delightful Cottage at Makena on Maui

This privately owned cottage was everything that I had hoped it would be. For one who is looking for a true waterfront location, peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle of the commercial and resort areas on Maui, it is perfect. The cottage is very comfortable and comprises two immediately adjacent units, each sleeping two. Only the main unit has kitchen facilities but each has its own bathroom. One can swim/snorkel from either the front yard or from a small sand beach less than a quarter mile away. During much of our visit, the wind rose strongly from the west, producing waves which would have made swimming at the cottage difficult (high risk of being pushed onto the lava outcroppings). It was great, however, to be able to watch the surf (just 25 ft away) and listen to the ocean right from the bedrooms.

Our visit suffered on minor glitch - the combination for one of the lock boxes had been changed and we were unable to access one of the units for about a half hour, but that problem was promptly rectified by the owner. The dining table is a bit small and the supply of dishes somewhat limited, but all is certainly adequate. You, however, are the dishwasher. There is a nice library to help familiarize the visitor with Maui, its culture and sights. The yard is pleasant and includes a variety of fruit trees, including several bananas and a couple citrus trees, as well as a couple coconut palms.

The owner is pleasant to work with and was very accommodating in allowing us a late checkout. Maintenance seemed generally good, distinctly better than most of the higher end resort condos I have rented.
