Robinson Lake Front Lodge at Jocassee
This cozy mountain lodge sleeps 10 and is located directly on Lake Jocassee. The house includes a dock with a newly extended ramp and tie up for boats. Lake Jocassee is located in the upstate of South Carolina in a pristine mountain environment. With its crystal clear water and huge depths the lake is perfect for swimming, boating, skiing, fishing, and any other water activities you can imagine. The mountains are also a great place for hiking. There are a number of great hikes within a short drive from the house.
Located in Salem, SC this mountain home is a truly peaceful place for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of life. Great places to visit while you are in town include Highlands, NC (45 min from the house) and Cashiers, NC (25 minutes from the house). Guests who will be flying in may want to consider airports in Greenville, SC (about 1.5 hours away), Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC (both about 2.5 hours away), or Ashville, NC (about 1.5 hours away).
The house was built in 1984 by Bill Robinson and his son Drew and has been in the family ever since. Each room has a different wood paneling. The main room is wormy chestnut, while the bedrooms are oak, pine, cypress, and ash. The house will sleep 10 in beds but there are also 3 comfortable sofas. No linens (sheets or towels) are provided. You will need to bring all the linens that you needs for your stay.

Access to the Water:
The house is directly on the water. There is a floating dock with a ladder and full tie-up for boats. A new ramp was recently installed to allow continuous access to the water regardless of the water level. Floats or tubes for lounging in the water are great items to pack because the water is deep at the dock.
This is a great house for a boat. If you don’t bring your own they are available for rent. Pontoon boats are great for cruising the lakes, ski boats are great if you enjoy water sports, and kayaks and canoes are perfect for exploring nearby waterfalls and rivers that feed the lake. Maps and boat rentals are available at the store at Devils Fork (at the boat landing) or on their website. There are no gas pumps on the lake, so you must either take your boat out of the lake to gas it up, or you can bring your own gas containers that you can fill up and carry to your boat.
Our group ranged form 14-85 years in age and we all had a blast! The house was just right for those who wanted to watch from the porch as well as those who did not come in off of the water until they were too tired to stay out there. The porch sitters had some difficulty choosing where to perch. The bed swing had fabulous views of the lake and encouraged snoozing, while the comfy lounge chairs at the corner gave one the option of the lake panorama or the dramatic hummingbird feeder. Trust me, it was tough. At times there were 15-20 hummers diving at one another for spots on the feeder! None of us have ever seen anything like it. Then there were the wild turkeys who stood in the lane and glared us down for interrupting their quiet, which could only be topped by the baby black bear scampering up the incline beside the road as fast as it could make it's roly poly self move. I suppose that some of you will want to hear about the more active side of things. The three 14 year old boys in our party would probably have fished the entire time had it not been for the irresistible tubing opportunity afforded by the vast, uncrowded and pristine lake. We all rode around the lake and searched out waterfalls until we lost count. The boys led us on a hike up the one near the upper dam, beautiful and inspiring. We were able to boat right up to several of the larger waterfalls, it is amazing for Lowcountry folk to feel so chilled out of doors in August.
The house felt very much like home. The 4 bedrooms were very comfy for couples and attractively decorated. The boys loved the "dorm room" with two twins and two sofas and a gimongus tv to play games and videos on when they were too tired to move. The kitchen is well appointed and part of a lovely great room with a huge stone fireplace. We were sad that we never go around to having a fire but by the time we came in for the night we just fell into bed. The boys were given permission to build a fire in the lakeside fire ring (that can be monitored from the porch) but never had enough energy.
I am posting this review only after having reserved our week for next summer...maybe I should put in our request for 2015 as well, word is getting out????
We wanted to say thanks for allowing our family and friends to enjoy Robinson Family Lodge!! Your home is beautifully decorated to fit the location and had every amenity to make our stay comfortable. We only left the house once during the entire week! You were correct, the lake was as beautiful as we’ve seen it in years! The dock worked great and even with the boats there it was difficult to ever leave the porch! The views were amazing and we used the porch morning and night enjoying every meal outside! We will definitely be back!
Thanks again for sharing this beautiful gem on Lake Jocassee! We’ve stayed many places on the lake, but definitely have a new favorite!!

This is a wonderful home for gathering the family. The setting is very remote and peaceful, the dock is great, the views are nice, and the beds are comfortable. The new porch addition created an ideal gathering and dining spot and was our favorite part of the house. The owners were very professional and quick to respond to questions. All in all nothing beats a week at Jocassee and this will become a regular spot for our family.
Great time, and the home is very comfortable, spacious, and contains all of the amenities one requires for a vacation away from home. The dock access to the water is a real plus for mooring and docking a boat, and so convinent to Devils Fork state park boat ramp, and the great town of Highlands is a skip way, as weel as the many adventure spots of upper SC and lower NC mountains. Sitting on the porch with a hot cup of coffee enjoying the world waking up in the early mornings was such a great experience. The nights with the wide open skies offered a dream like view of the stars. Thanks for all the attention to detail that you have placed in providing for this mountain get away.
