Notes: The house benefits from two terraces, one attached to the property, is equipped with a BBQ ( all fuel supplied ) and provides seating and a table for your al-fresco dining needs. The second terrace overlooks the heated pool and is covered as it is in an ancient stone outbuilding, thus providing a much needed area of shade whilst still being able to keep an eye on children in the pool & enjoy the view. Having two ground floor en-suite bedrooms makes the house we believe disabled friendly, please contact us to discuss your own particular requirements & we will endeavor to accommodate your needs. Whilst not having 'Central heating' the house does have two large and efficient woodburners equipped with heat exchangers thus allowing year long occupation. The fuel is provided within the rental cost. Step of the property in any direction at any point and you are in fabulous walking country, woods, vineyards, streams & space, gentle strolls or stiff walks & we can even lend you a dog.

Walking and Pets: This is a great area for walking, be it just a stroll around the vines and forest in the cool of the evening or for the serious walkers with quiet country roads and sleepy villages to find and explore. There is something for everyone. We have our own very laid back, quiet and gentle Lurcher dog called Saemus and Purdy our black cat, neither of whom will invade your 'space' unless specifically invited. In general we are happy to accommodate visiting dogs but would prefer if you contact us to discuss at the time of your initial enquiry. The aforementioned dog is always quite happy to join you on your walk.

Meals on Arrival: We offer a meals on arrival service. After a long drive, we can provide a 3 course meal with wine or soft drinks, please ask for our menus and price list. Vegetarian meals also provided. Whenever possible our meals include local seasonal produce, some from our own vegetable garden together with locally produced wine. Eggs from our neighbour's chickens and produce from our garden is available to buy, subject to availability.

Local Colour: During the summer months there are a variety of events and interesting attractions within the area to immerse you in French culture and social life. These range from numerous Vide Greniers, a cross between a boot sale and a flea market, a local market somewhere 7 days out of 7, village fetes, art exhibitions, music festivals and notably the historical re-enactment of the end of the 100yrs war at Castillon la Bataille. You will not have time to do it all !!!! We have details on site so we can advise you as to what is happening, when and where.

Golf: Only 30 minutes from the famous Chateau Vigiers golf course and 20 minutes from a golf range and crazy golf course.

Other Activities: canoeing, walking, wine tasting, terre raku course (local artist runs courses, please ask for details)

Rural heaven

Tonerain Sale, Cheshire, UK
Review Submitted: July 4, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Thank you, Jim & Jan, for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. The house is spotless and fully equipped with everything you'll need. Outside meals are a delight under the canopy, with a lovely breeze coming from the valley.
The views are sensational and the pool much appreciated when the temperature gets a bit high - hit 35 degrees one day.
The location is so idyllic that we didn't sightsee as much as we planned - but don't miss the Saturday market at Sainte-Foy-le-Grande.

What a find

Dublin Paul Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
What a find. The barn lived up to our expectations based on the website information and more. It is very clean, well maintained and has everything you need for a relaxed holiday. The location is idyllic in the middle of a vineyard with views in all directions but not far from Gensac and other lovely towns. The pool was wonderful and well used by all. The BBQ with free vine wood was great as was the boules court. Jan and Jim were very welcoming, very helpful with local information, booking for canoeing, walks around the vineyards and forest etc. There were many little touches that we didn't expect, such as a herb garden and fruit trees to help ourselves to, which put the finishing touches to a wonderful week. We can't wait to return.

Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
"Beautiful gite in wonderfully converted stone barn. Lovely pool and garden, surrounded by vineyards. Very private, but with hosts who are always ready to assist and inform if required. Spacious, clean and well equipped, everything has been provided, even down to linens and towels/pool towels. We made good use of the BBQ, vinewood provided, for relaxed meals outside in this tranquil atmosphere, and became boules addicts in a very short space of time! Pretty towns & villages within easy reach include Sainte Foy, Monsegur, St Emilion - all worth a visit, as are the regular markets.
Full marks!

Wonderful!

Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This is a beautifully converted barn, fully equipped with all modern amenities - everything you need and more!
The views are glorious, surrounded by vineyards and its own beautifully maintained gardens. The pool is fantastic and the pool house with its darts board and giant Jenga was a huge success! We ended up spending most of our days there enjoying the peace and tranquillity! If you want to explore, the River Dordogne and many delightful towns and villages are within easy reach. Jan and Jim are only too happy to advise on the local area and to book anything from canoing to restaurants!
We highly recommend this property - thank you again to Jan and Jim for such a lovely, relaxing holiday. We'll see you next year!

First Class Holiday Home!!

Virginia & Friends Hong Kong
Review Submitted: November 5, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
The old stone barn has been restored very thoughtfully with all the modern amenities you need to make this a perfect holiday home. It's spacious & bright with stunning views. Location is rural but everything is a short drive away. Propert is also very well maintained, practically brand new!. Added bonus is all bedrooms have ensuite bath/showers, and trust me, is a real treasure fine.

Jim & Jan are the most gracious & welcoming host who can expect. They really go all their way to make your stay comfortable which makes this property really special.
Highly recomend this to anyone looking to be in the region.
