*****THE VILLA*****

The house, with its 450 SQUARE METRES, sleeps up to 12 PEOPLE.

The ground floor is very spacious with a large entrance, a sitting room with fireplace, a formal dining room, a large fully fitted kitchen, a small study with a stunning 46' high definition satellite tv (with blu-ray player and more than 30 movies to choose from), an elegant and cozy bedroom with two joinable single beds, and a full bathroom.

On the first floor there are five air-conditioned bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms: two of them are double-bedded, one is the magnificent master bedroom; two more rooms are twin-bedded, while the last one comes with two joinable single beds. All bedroms are spacious with tasteful furnishing, ample wardrobe space and have large open windows overlooking the valley and enjoying the same spectacular view characteristic of the house.

The furniture dates back to the 19th century and was purchased in antique shops in the area of Tuscany.

The wrought-iron comfortable beds were all handmade by Mr. Caporali, the greatest craftsman in Arezzo. Moreover, the Villa is completely floored with mezzane, while ceilings have been restored with ancient chestnut beams.

*****LOCATION AND PANORAMA*****

The location of Villa Segale is magnificent.

Perched among green and forested valleys west of Lucca, SEGALE IS SURROUNDED BY 80 ACRES (32 HECTARES) OF OLIVE GROVES AND VINEYARDS. Such a wide area allows plenty of space to wander and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the property's extensive grounds.

Its spectacular view across the valley towards the Renaissance monuments of the cities of Lucca and Pisa is to die for. Thanks to its height of 350 m. above sea level and to its unique position, on a typical clear day guests can admire the valley below and the whole landscape up to 40 km around.

Photos cannot portray the powerful details of such a EXCEPTIONAL VIEW WHICH IS RECOGNIZED AS THE MOST STUNNING IN THE AREA.

In the 80 Acres (32 hectares) territory with a 360° panoramic view, hunting is strictly forbidden the whole year round. Hence guests can join the natural unspoilt surroundings and admire the local fauna such as owls, poults, hawks, hedgehogs and fireflies.

About The Owner

I am a doctor, who inherited this beautiful place almost 10 years ago. After generations this wonderful place 'arrived' to me and to my family, and we've immediately felt in love with it!

Why The Owner chose Lucca

This is a truly unique place and that's the reason why I love it so much. Considering today's standards, it's almost impossible to still find places with similar attributes: a fascinating hystorical stonehouse surrounded by 32 hectares of land - including olivegroves and wineyards - immersed in a complete sense of privacy and tranquility. But at the same time being really near to Lucca city (9km) as well as to other many fascinating places. This place is a truly special hidden pearl !

What makes this villa unique

Enjoying the most beautiful panorama of the Lucca area and living inside a traditional 11th century stonehouse that has carefully been renewed with the highest standards, but at the same time keeping completely intact the beautiful Tuscan tradition.

The position is also unique: it grants a strong sense of privacy and allows guests to enjoy a real nature-intensive regenerating experience. At the same time the strategic position, just 9 km from Lucca city, allows guest to visit all the other beautiful cities and places of Tuscany (and outside Tuscany) with day trips.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Buongiorno,

Our last day at Villa Segale was yesterday and today we leave shortly to fly back to the U.S. I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Villa Segale

Villa Segale is truly a beautiful place and I must commend you on how exquisite the furnishings and other interior decorations are. Everything is done perfectly and you can see that a lot of thought and love went into the restoration of this grand home. Every window, light fixture, or painting offers another photo opportunity. And then there are the grounds and the pool which is perfect.

Segale was also a wonderful return to nature for us. The fruit trees and vineyards; the birds and insects; the sunrises, breezes and of course the views make Segale a truly exceptional location. We live in the city in Boston so this was a special retreat for us.

So thank you again for sharing your beautiful home with us. It was a highlight of our month here in Italy.

Thank you again, Julia C.

Beautiful Tuscan villa in the hills above Lucca

  • 5 of 5
We rented Villa Segale with two other families for a week this summer. In total we were a group of 11 (6 adults and 5 children under 10) and we were all delighted with our choice which delivered for us on all fronts.

The views from inside and around the house are absolutely breathtaking, with the house itself set in a truly peaceful location at the end of a long track.
Inside the bedrooms were all comfortable and spacious.
The downstairs bedroom and adjoining 'snug' with their large TV/DVD players worked perfectly as a 'down-time' area for the children in our group.

Meals were taken outside under the vines around a substantial table which easily seated everyone. From here we enjoyed watching the fireflies buzzing around the vineyard.

The large pool was an obvious highlight and it was difficult to drag the children away for trips into easily accessible Lucca and further afield to Barga.

Marco and Michaela were both exceptional in terms of communication before we arrived and whilst we were in residence.

I would have no issues in wholly recommending Villa Segale.

Stunning farmhouse delivers on all fronts!

  • 5 of 5
The photos and description on the website do not serve Villa Segale well. It is a spectacular setting with the perfect, well-appointed, spacious farmhouse. We brought our family of twelve from the U.S. including 3 generations ranging in age from 2 to 65, to Lucca for vacation and to connect with our Italian roots. We enjoyed both staying at the villa/magnificent pool and exploring the countryside in northern Tuscany. Florence, Cinque Terre, Lucca and Volterra were some of our favorites and easily reached from Villa Segale. We reveled in having days to completely relax at the pool with a good book, fun family and a large glass of iced coffee with Bailey's!

Michela, the onsite manager of the villa, could not have been more helpful, friendly and available. Thank you Marco for sharing your slice of heaven with us! We hope to return to make more family memories.

A First-Class Villa in The Hills of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5
Our family just returned to the U.S. after a three-week stay at Villa Segale. We had hoped for a trip of a lifetime, and Villa Segale helped deliver that trip in all respects. Our family of eleven, ranging in ages from 6 to 69, thoroughly enjoyed the recently-restored villa, the surrounding acreage of vineyards/olive and fruit trees, the pool, and the magnificent view of Lucca and Pisa.
The villa interior was tastefully decorated while retaining some of the 11th-century farmhouse charm, and was certainly large enough to accommodate our family.
We used the villa as a "base' from which family members could travel by auto or train to Venice, Florence, Rome and other parts of Italy, and that worked out extremely well. Family members said they looked forward to returning to the villa for rest and relaxation before continuing to explore Italy.
The villa description, as provided, was accurate in all respects, and the property was very well maintained. Marco, the owner, and Michela, the villa manager, were very helpful with any questions we had about our travels, restaurants in the area, chefs available to come to the villa, etc.
We would definitely recommend Villa Segale to our friends and family, and we certainly hope to return someday soon!
Ciao,
Ronnie

a real Tuscan pearl - by a Tuscan resident

  • 5 of 5
I live in Florence and I have been in this fantastic place three times already. Knowing very well the local reality, I can say that this is ,without any doubt, one of the most beautiful, relaxing and interesting places where I've spent my holidays recently. The care with which the house was renovated, the attention to every detail, the big panoramic swimming pool, the two splendid terraces and breathtaking views are just some of the elements that characterize this amazing and lovely place. Everything in the house is perfect and the owner and the house team are extremely kind and helpful. A real pearl of Tuscany!!!

Amazing Villa!

  • 5 of 5
I set up small group culinary tours to Tuscany and I really do a lot of research before deciding on a villa that fits my group. Villa Segale matched almost every piece of criteria that I use in choosing a villa, but I also was very impressed with the owner and property manager during my communication and all the help they shared regarding the area. The villa is quite simply amazing! A historic property with views that I can't believe are possible to match. Beautifully decorated with period furniture and all the modern conveniences you will need. The drive up to the villa is quite an adventure the first time up, however, after you are used to it, well, it almost becomes fun. You are 15 minutes from Lucca and there are some amazing restaurants within 15 minutes (take Marco's advice on some of his favorites), and I would highly recommend having Alessandra, a local chef, come in to do a dinner or cooking class for you, she's fabulous. Villa Segale is amazing, a destination in itself, yes they are surrounded by nature, they even have bugs flying around outside, but they are also surrounded by pure beauty, olive and fig trees, grape vines, wild herbs for use in your cooking and a patio and view that makes you realize just why Tuscany is a dream vacation. This will definitely not be my last stay at Villa Segale. Thanks Marco!

Beautiful views great house but too many wasps

  • 3 of 5
Beautiful house but my husband allergic to wasp and we discover that they have huge wasp which were in the vine in front porch and on the side outdoor kitchen. The kitchen was missing some good sharp knives and the oven was not working properly. The city of Lucca is beautiful next time will not stay in the mountain since the drive in to the villa was not pleasant experience.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your appreciation about the beautiful view and the great house, but I cannot agree with the other points you mentioned: the oven (a professional high quality model) is perfectly working: we've welcomed other groups of guests later and no one ever complained about the oven. I've checked it by myself just to be sure, and it's working perfectly.... so it was just not used in the correct way. About knives: we have high quality knives with rounded tip (so that children won't be hurted) but they are of great quality and cut very well...again, no one ever complained about this. We have a house manager that helps in solving local issues that may arise, so I'm surprised to read about these things only now in the review. Why not telling us about these things while you were at the villa? We would have solved these little "problems" in just 5 minutes :) About wasps: we are in the countryside, immersed in the beautiful nature, so it's completely normal that a wasp could be in the air sometimes...."huge wasps" it's really an exageration since we do pest control (and we are one of the few villas that do it, like having removable and discrete net screens installed on all the windows) every year for our guests. Finally the road is really normal for italian standard: we are in Italy and these are the roads that you will find everywhere in the countryside (smaller than standard american roards), but everyone always got used to them really quickly. Anyway since we always like to improve the comfort of our villa, we've already planned new works for this winter in order to make the road more comfortable to people coming from abroad. I'm really surprised about this review, but fortunately all of our other reviews are "5 star" reviews of guests that absolutely loved our villa and can confirm the quality and the beauty of this magical place.
