A CHARMING RETREAT

From the moment we arrived at the front gate (around 3am!) we were welcomed by our host, and when we walked up the brick path, with the mossy rocks and fresh sea breeze in the air, we were transported. The cottage is old and charming with a sweet and comfortable decor. We brought our young daughter and felt quite at ease. For the 5 days or so that we stayed here, this little cottage really became our home. With a newly installed spa tub, we were able to relax in style! There are a lot of little reminders throughout the cottage for how to take care of the old cottage, so pay attention if you want your deposit back! But mostly you will just cozy up and enjoy the charms of this quaint place. And the location was really ideal for our little family. There is a little park right down the street to walk to, and the ocean can be seen from the street as well! I will recommend Gull cottage to anyone i know going to stay in the area!

I agree with the many informative reviews of Gull Cottage that came before me. The cottage was well stocked with everything one would need for a cozy retreat. It was decent value for the money - the aquarium passes were what made it a great deal! Carol is extremely detail oriented in terms of the paperwork - she made abundant and helpful recommendations in her final communication prior to our arrival. The cottage is in a quiet neighborhood (closer to Pacific Grove businesses than to downtown Monterrey). Plus, there's a cool little loft if you have a school aged child with you. However, we have to agree with the reviewer that commented on the numerous little framed signs all over the house. Maybe Carol has had many inconsiderate guests in the past - but it felt a little uncomfortable. Additionally, the scattered rugs were a little random in style and color - and a couple were a little damp when we checked in. The reader might also want to know that it isn't within walking distance of town (because there's a huge hill in between) and walking is pricey near Cannery Row - not that it was advertised to be within walking distance, but I always like to know. In our opinion, it was a good, but not great place to stay. Obviously, many people gave it a higher rating than we do.

This was a birthday trip with my husband, daughter and 4 yr. old grandson that could not have been nicer. The cottage is lovely and centrally located for all we wanted to do and more!
We used the Aquarium tickets for 2 days of wonder at the fabulous facility and ended up buying a child's membership because of it!
I am a great lover of little rustic cottages and this one certainly "filled the bill".
