Palheiro Cottage has an 'Alojamento Local' Licence, is approved by the Tourist Office and is fully insured. The cottage stands on a ridge and the views are breathtaking. The lounge/dining area/kitchen are all open plan on the first floor and encompass a large balcony accessed through patio doors which give outstanding views from the lounge over the valley. The kitchen is equipped with Fridge/freezer, oven, hob, extractor,microwave, kettle, coffee maker and toaster etc.There is ample cupboard space provided. The lounge is furnished with TV/Computer and Xbox, (FREE calls to European landlines via SKYPE), a 3 seater convertible sofa/ bed and dining table and 4 chairs.The staircase leads down to the ground floor which comprises of a double bedroom with bedside shelves and table lamps, a triple robe with mirror, hairdryer and a dressing table. There is an en-suite shower room containing a Hydrotherapy cabin, a large hand basin over cabinets and W.C. All linen, towels and beach towels are provided and changed weekly.

Calheta is the driest, warmest part of the Island and boasts a Marina of international quality and 2 golden sand beaches. Also close by are the famous Lavada Walks . Close to the property is a bakery, general store, supermarket, hairdressers, hospital, doctors, dentists, garage and banks. The owners offer the use of a car, fishing trips or cruises on the owners boat, and a catering service if you don't feel like cooking. Laundry and maid service is available on request. The owners have spent many years in the Restaurant/hospitality industry and will provide you with the highest quality accommodation at reasonable rates.

The Cottage is fully equipped with all tableware, glasses, linen, Egyptian Cotton bedlinen and towels. Linen is changed weekly. There is an assortment of books, dvd's and cd's. Also cards, dominos and games.

Our rooftop terrace offers unrivaled views of the Mountains and the Ocean with about a 270 degree panorama. The terrace is equipped with a table and four dining chairs, a 3 metre parasol,2 loungers and a charcoal Bar-B-Que, so you can enjoy a lazy day in the tranquility of the terrace garden or enjoy the pleasure of a bottle of wine whilst the sun goes down. The terrace receives full sunshine from around 9.00 a.m. until the sun sets over the West end of the Island.

Our aim is to provide you with a most comfortable and enjoyable stay in pleasant surroundings and with the total privacy of you own building. However as we only live next door, any problems can be resolved quickly and efficiently and we are nearly always on hand with help and advice to ensure you have a memorable stay on the Island.

If you have any specific needs or are celebrating a special occasion, we can help you to meet these with a special meal, or by assisting with any special needs/ requests (where practicable).

About Graham and Jenny

Jenny and I have both been in the Licenced trade and I am a quaified Chef. We are both retired now and live next door to the cottage in the main house, so we are usually available to advise or assist whenever needed. However we will never be a nuisance to you and only seek to enhance you holiday experience.

Why Graham and Jenny chose Calheta

We first bought the main house in 2009 and built the cottage 3 years later in early 2012. It was a derilict 'Cow House' and we did the reconstruction sympathetically to the original style and in a manner that we would be happy to stay in it ourselves, Hence the cottage is very well equipped to a high standard and is very comfortable. We chose to live in this area as it is very quiet and the views are out of this world. The house and cottage are a little off the beaten track and so you will experience the 'Real' Madeira as against the Tourist images usually offered. Also, being at 400 mtrs altitude it does not get too hot in Summer or too Cold in Winter.

Our cottage is located on the outskirts of Estrela which is the commercial centre for the Calheta Region. We are withing easy walking distance of the village and some Lavada Walks . Also some of the most spectacular Lavada Walks (the 25 Fontes at Rabacal) are within our region and are easily accessed by car. The Marina is but a short drive from the cottage and this has a number of Restaurants and Bars. We highly recommend Aki Kalheta Restaurant which is the one nearest the Hotel Calheta Beach. There is also a sand beach next to the Marina with a safe swimming area, although you may choose to go out to sea with Graham and swim in the Ocean or view the Whales and Dolphins. 15 Kilometers away is Cabo Girao, the second highest Sea Cliff in Europe with a cable car from the top to almost the bottom, where you will find a small and exclusive Restaurant. Swim in the natural pools at Porto Moniz which is just a short drive away.

Beautiful and well equipped cottage

We had a wonderful time in Madeira, more particularly in your nice, beautiful and well equipped cottage. Actually too equipped ! we don't have that much TV channels back home!!! We really wish to thank you for all the nice attentions you had with us. We have really enjoyed having breakfast and dinner on the balcony with such a beautiful view accompanied by the sounds of the birds and water. As French we also have to add a comment on the dishes you prepared for us they were "yummy yummy" However we definitely have to come back as we didn't use the BBQ which is kind of a regret as Fred is a BBQ specialist!!!
Thanks again and see you again soon.

We had very good 9 days in the cottage and were very pleased with everything supplied by the very friendly owners Jenny nad Graham.
We enjoyed the nice cottage with its comfortable and cosy athmosphere, the beautiful landscape, the nice weather, which allowed us to profit from the big balcony and terrace, the nice sunsets outside and the quiet but local surrounding.The kitchen was well provided, so we could cook our own meals, we enjoyed the quiet and well temperatured sleeping downstairs, the interesting and from time to time even demanding hikes and a swim in the evening in Calheta beach (just 5 minutes by car)
We enjoyed our stay very much and would like to come back soon.

we liked very much to stay in your cottage in a very pleasant and comfortable Athmosphere.
We slept well, ate very good had wonderful walks (just near the house) and enjoyed the evening swim in Calheta beach (10 minutes by car).
Everything was perfect and well arranged and we would very much like to come back soon.

Lovely views and a well stocked kitchen, you have thought of everything! We had sunshine and torrential rain, Lavada walks, a swim in the Atlantic, sunburn and Madeira wine! Steep hills beyond imagination, mists and views out of Tolkien and Myths. We recommend the café in Rua de Amores.
Thoughtful and considerate host and hostess Graham and Jenny. A perfect spot for staying.
