Uulu is a lovely peaceful village. Uulu library is a short walk from the house and offers free wifi access, Just beyond the library there is a 24 hour petrol station which also sells soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and various food items. Upon entering the village there is a small grocery which is very well stocked.
Uulu is located in the parish of Tahkuranna. which is adjacent to the Baltic sea. It is a scenic area ideal for long walks. You will find theTahkuranna Dormition of the Mother of God Apostolic Othodox church built in 1872 of red brick, unique in Estonia. You can admire its domed ceilings, pannelled arches and ceiling paintings. This is where the first President of the Republic of Estonia Konstantin Päts was christened.
Also located in Tahkuranna and just 6.5 km from the house is the Jõulumäe Recreational Sports Centre set in beautiful pine forests. .Jõulumäe Recreational Sports Centre is open 24hrs and activities are free of charge and on offer throughout the year. In the winter in addition to hosting their own winter games they offer disc golf . sledging, cross country skiing, nordic walking and much more. There is a large athletic hall where indoor sports such as basket ball and table tennis are available. Parnu city is the summer capital of Estonia and is only 15 km drive from Uulu. Here there are restaurants offering a variety of foods from local dishes to Mexican, Asian and Italian cuisine. In Parnu there are also several pubs and bars and the night life is good. The largest waterpark in Estonia is in Parnu at the Tervise Paradiis and it is situated on Parnu beach. The Tervise Paradiis is a hotel and waterpark complex offering a variety of spa treatments, fine dining, a casino and has a bar on the 8th floor which offers a beautiful panoramic view of Parnu beach and the Baltic sea.
Parnu beach is a stunning stretch of white sand on the Baltic sea . Along the beach there are many activities available in the summer months including volley ball and football. There are lots of activities for the kids (and adults) like crazy golf and playing amongst those water fountains.
Aithough a city Parnu has wide streets and maintains a relaxed atmosphere. In the summer many areas are pedestrianised and there are lots of street markets where you can purchase various local trinkets , fresh honey and even have a henna design painted on your arm.
Parnu in the winter is also amazing. When Parnu river is frozen the ice fishing begins and as the Baltic freezes cars drive along the ice roads. To regulate speeds traffic lights are temporarily installed out on the frozen sea, just amazing. New Year's eve on a frozen Parnu river is magical as the sky comes to life with fireworks.
The Soomaa National Park is approximately 55 km drive from the house in Uulu. A visit to the Soomaa National Park tourist centre is recommended. The Soomaa National Park offers a variety of activities throughout the year and is a great example of eco-tourism. Guided walks through the bog are wonderful and canoeing tours are available. In March/April Soomaa has what is described as the 5th Season. The area becomes flooded and amazing guided canoe tours are provided to explore the temporary waterways.
