Had a fantastic stay at the cottage at the end of March 2014.

Didnt meet the owners but they have been fantastic in communications from the beginning so helped us with everything we needed :-)

We were easily able to explore the Geyser area, with it being so close we also went back at night once the crowds had died down to give it a better viewing. Also Gulfoss is withina 10 minute drive which is fantastic.

We were there for 4 nights and sat in the hot tub every nights with a few beers and wines watiing for the Northern Lights to appear, and we were treated to a display for about an hour one night which was fantastic :-)

Overall i would highly recomenned to stay here and if iw as to visit Iceland again, i would book this cottage again.

Thank you.

Cozy, pretty cottage in excellent location

We stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of January 2014. We had a wonderful time exploring during the day and soaking in the hot-tub at night, where we saw lots of shooting stars. We were SO lucky to see a fabulous display of the Northern Lights on our first night there.
At this time of year the days are very short, and as you have to drive very carefully on icy roads, you can't fit as much in as you can at other times of year. This was more than made up for by the most amazing sky-scapes of pinks and gold all day. Geysir, Gullfoss, Pingvellir and the bleak landscapes are all more majestic than in summer under these marvellous skies.
We also enjoyed a day in Reykjavik including a visit to the Blue Lagoon in the late afternoon/evening.
The cottage was very well equipped, and we were pleasantly surprised to find quite a few herbs, spices and cooking ingredients left by previous guests.
The beds were very comfy with good quality mattresses, though the single sheets on double beds took some getting used to! We liked having a single duvet each on the double beds!
There were a good range of music CDs available, and also basic wi-fi (OK for emails and checking the aurora forecast, but too slow for streaming etc). There were some DVDs, but we didn't look at these.
Some lovely coffee table books of Iceland had been left out for us, too.
The cottage was clean, tidy and very well presented.
Kristin was very helpful answering my questions by email - especially about shopping etc as we were arriving on New Years Day (a bank holiday).
I would definitely recommend this cottage and will book again ourselves if we decide to holiday in the same area (though I think we will probably stay in the North next time, having had 2 holidays, now, in South Iceland).
Owner's Response: Thank you dear Clare for posting this review, it will be helpful for coming guests, thank you for leaving the cottage so nice and tidy, welcome back, in the summer it is beautiful here too.
It was great that you got to see the Northern Lights, thats a bonus!!
Best wishes, Kristin, Bjarni and family

Excellent lodge, fantastic location, great week!

We stayed in this cottage from 01st-08th Dec 2013 and had an amazing week. The lodge was very clean, well furnished and in an excellent location right in the heart of the Golden Circle which made it great for day trips in the local area. Kristin, the owner, was always very accommodating in answering any questions before and during our stay. It was great to witness the northern lights from the comfort of the lodge, rather than having to go out on organised tours etc. The lodge is located in a quiet valley next to Geysir which feels very isolated and gives it a cosy feel.

We experienced some extreme weather during our stay, including rain, snow, hail, sun and freezing temperatures, down to -22c at times which was apparently the coldest temperature in 20 years around the Geysir area. Unfortunately, this meant the lodge was uncomfortably cold inside on the extremely cold days although I understand this freak Arctic blast is very uncommon for such a prolonged period of time. However, on days where the temperature was more normal (-5c) the lodge was a comfortable temperature.

The hot tub was excellent and great to wind down in after a long day exploring the local area, and if you're lucky you may even see the northern lights while sat in it.

During our stay, we visited Reykjavik, Thingvellir, Geysir, Gulfoss and other lesser known waterfalls in the local area, all of which were easily drivable for day trips. The freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall made us very thankful we had been upgraded to a 4x4 vehicle with studded tyres, as we would've struggled a bit in a normal FWD car especially as the small track to and from the lodge was only driven on by us, so for winter weather I'd recommend a 4WD vehicle to reach the lodge comfortably. We also made a trip to the spectacular Jökulsárlón ice lagoon which is around an 8 hour round trip, but definitely worth the drive!

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this cottage and Kristin's local knowledge and help made it that little bit better, we would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic cabin- great setting nr Geysir yet quiet

Cabin was clean and had all the facilities as described. The kids loved the hot tub and it got used every evening. I imagine it's fantastic when it's cooler and there is snow on the ground too. Kristin was very helpful in providing quick responses, good advice on days out and car rental also. Many thanks indeed for that. It was a pleasure to meet you. The cabin provided a good base to see all the sights within the South West/ Golden Circle as described and more. Due to the hillock in between (which you don't have to climb although it is worth it) the cabin is in peaceful valley away from the tourists but still within a 15-20 minute walk to the geysers at Geysir. It was good to have the opportunity to go back and see it in the evenings when it was quieter. Whilst we did have some long days out, it didn't really go dark and we probably could have stayed the whole time at Geysir (rather than move to other accommodation first in the East to see Jokulsarlon and also Reykjavik). There is so much in Iceland not to miss: Geysir itself; Thingellvir; Landmannalaugur; Gulfoss; Skogafoss; Dyrholaey (nr Vik); bathing in pools at Reykjadalur to name a few. Whilst not essential I would recommend hiring a 4x4 as it gives you much more options to explore. Overall this was fantastic trip for all the family. We could easily decide to return to Iceland and indeed this cottage.
Thanks again and we wish you all the very best.

Peaceful Iceland!

My family and I (wife and two little girls) had a fantastic 6 day stay in this wonderful cottage. The setting was absolutely stunning, surrounded by mountains, rivers and beautiful landscape. We picked up groceries in Selfoss, drove 50 minutes and easily found the cottage. We were able to get milk, bread, cereal and a few staples in Laugarvartn, but a good idea to stock upin Seloss.
The girls loved the hot tub and were in and out multiple times, despite the snow surrounding the cottage. We spent quiet nights in the comfortable cottage, reading books and dozing off on the couches. It is definitely the cure if you're feeling tired, and overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of daily life! We spent our days exploring Geysir, Gulfoss, Laugarvartn (we had a fantasic time at Fontana there), as well as many other spots. Honestly, you could just drive wherever you wanted - get out, and walk around and you'd be in awe.
I've travelled all over this world, and rarely do I have the urge to return to anywhere I've gone (because there's so much still to see!), but Iceland - and this cottage - is one place that we're already talking about returning to. It really is like no place we've ever been. Thanks again, and we look forward to returning one day!
Owner's Response: Thank you Pat and family for such nice words,
Words can not describe how I feel reading your review, Its a blessing for us to be able to share our cottage with our foreign guests, it was a pleasure to have you over and you are always welcome back.
Love from us at cottage Geysir, Kristin, Bjarni and Maya Stina
