|Minimum Stay||4 - 5 nights|
Location, location, location ! A quiet apartment right in the middle of everything; just a few minutes walk from the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Picasso Museum, the Pompidou Museum, the Ile St. Louis, and the Hotel de Ville, just to mention a few. You will be spoiled with the endless choice of restaurants, cafés, patisseries and unique boutiques of the Marais; this is definitely the most happening neighborhood in the city and on Sundays it becomes a pedestrian area for traffic free window shopping.
Ideally located for transport, steps to the most convenient metro line in Paris, ( line 1 ), taking you directly to the Louvre Museum, the Place de la Concorde, the Champs Elysees and the Arch de Triomphe among others. A large choice of bus lines also stop around the corner; for example take bus 69 for a scenic journey through the Ile de la Cité, Quartier Latin, Saint Sulpice all the way to the Eiffel Tower. If you prefer boat riding, then the Batobus stop is also a short distance away for a leisurely river cruise allowing you to get on and off at the most interesting sites along the river Seine.
The apartment has every amenity you could wish for when renting a holiday property : Wi-Fi broadband internet, cable TV, free calls to the USA, Canada, Australia, UK. A fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, fridge, freezer, electrical stove, plenty of dishes, pots and wine glasses. A washing and drying machine are at your disposal along a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Towels and linens are also provided.
The apartment is set up to comfortably host up to 4 guest with a private separate bedroom and a very comfortable double sofa bed.
NO SECURITY DEPOSIT NEEDED
The apartment was just as it was described in the listing. There is a separate bedroom (which was key for us) and the kitchen was larger than I thought it would be. The living room and dining area are one larger space. I stayed with two friends and there was more than enough space for the three of us.
Any amenity listed was available, plus others I hadn't even thought of. Every time we'd open a drawer, we found something we'd find in our own homes. All appliances were ready and working, and the apartment was very clean and organized.
The location was exactly what we'd hoped for. It was a very quick walk to the Metro, and our Metro stop was on a line that made it convenient to switch lines to get to all the spots we wanted to see. There's a bank with an inside ATM and a Franprix between the walk from the Metro to the apartment (for any grocery needs), a Jewish bakery at the end of the block (for amazing croissants), and the best falafel places you'll find in Paris just around the corner (L'As Du Falafel).
Carlos provided great service. I hadn't rented an apartment overseas, and Carlos was very communicative and answered all of our questions promptly and professionally. Our flight from the US was delayed four hours on our trip over, and I just emailed him from the airport when we had a better idea of when we were leaving/arriving at CDG. I called him when we arrived in Paris and he met us at the apartment to show us around. We didn't have any troubles, but I suspect if we had, Carlos would have taken care of any issues.
Some notes that may be important:
- The apartment is located on the sixth floor (fifth level in Paris). It's not a bad walk, but if you have bad knees or other issues, you may need to find something closer to the main level. But you'll still end up walking up unless you're in a hotel with an elevator.
- The bathroom was a great size for me and my friends, but one friend is a bit taller and felt snug in the shower. If you're taller than 5'10, be prepared to possibly hit the ceiling while showering.
- The street itself is not terribly busy, but there's still foot traffic. We slept with the windows open and could occasionally hear voices from below. In the morning, the garbage trucks and beeping could be a nuisance for some, but we all slept through it at some point. With the windows closed, there's very little disturbance at all.
Overall, it was an amazing trip and I would highly recommend this location to visitors.
This apartment really was a "modern and calm apartment in the heart of the Marais." It was bright and sunny, all of the appliances worked (the washer and dryer were very convenient to have and use), the kitchen had everything we could have needed (with a dishwasher, microwave, large refrigerator, and lots of cookware and dishes), there were plenty of linens, lots of hot water, and the location was excellent (the supermarket was even open on Sundays). It was less than five minutes to the metro, easy walking to Notre Dame, the Bastille, the Louvre, and of course the Marais is a destination itself. I was even pleased to find lots of English-language books (including a Paris travel guide or two) in case I ran out of reading material. Carlos was always quick to respond to an email.
I can't sleep when it's noisy and my fiance needs lots of ventilation and this apartment suited us both. It isn't completely silent in the middle of Paris, but the street is quiet even with the windows open and I didn't need to use the earplugs I brought along in case it was noisy. The bed itself was very comfortable.
From the photos, I thought the apartment was going to be larger than it is, but it was still plenty big. I wouldn't have wanted to host a dinner party for eight, but that really wasn't what I was in Paris to do. The floors are uncarpeted and very clean, but it was cold in Paris the week we were there and I was glad to have my slippers along. The apartment itself was always comfortably warm.
There are 86 stairs to the apartment, but we never found it a problem, although it did sharpen our minds to make sure we had everything we needed before we left for the day.
Overall, I couldn't believe our luck in finding such a great apartment in such a great location. If we go back to Paris, we'll definitely be checking on this apartment's availability.
I have delayed writing this review because I have mixed feelings about my experience. Carlos was easy to deal with and lived up to everything that he promised. The apartment was as seen in the photos, but was not really to our liking as we found the bathroom to be quite dirty and the shower had mold around the caulk lines which made me feel uncomfortable. The kitchen was fine, but during our stay the freezer broke and began to leak water into the apartment below. Carlos came to defrost the freezer but we also had to cooperate with him and clean up some of the water, chip off the ice, etc... something that I do not look forward to doing when I am on vacation. I am sure that Carlos has the best of intentions and I am sure that he has resolved all of these issues since our summer visit, but it is important to be truthful and let people know of our true experience. That being said, once again I repeat that Carlos is a stand up guy who does what he says. The apartment is as advertised and seen in the photos. The only negative of the apartment is the (5) flights of stairs that can be an inconvenience if you have to navigate them several times per day, especially if you have small children or elderly relatives visiting. The location of the apartment is great with lots of diversity in the area, great food, easy access to the metro, and anything else you may require. It can be noisy at night in the warmer months as there is no A/C in the apartment so sleeping with the windows open at night is a must. Enjoy your stay if you decide on this apartment.
We had a fabulous stay in Carlos' apartment! It is even roomier than it looks online. Great location central to everything, tranquil area of Le Marais (close to everything fun, but actually a quiet street generally), comfy bed, pretty view of rooftops over Paris, super close to Metro stop, good shower, nice kitchen. We loved it and we would absolutely stay here again! Carlos is super helpful and very easy to be in touch with. He gets back to emails/calls very promptly, he helped us with neighborhood recommendations for dinner/markets, and he's just generally an easy and great person to work with. Thanks, Carlos!
We enjoyed our stay in the apartment very much. Carlos was responsive and clear in his communication with us and the booking process was smooth. I paid the deposit by an international bank transfer which I hadn't done before but there were no problems.
The apartment is on the fifth floor which obviously means a lot of stairs but the view over Paris rooftops more than compensates. Inside the apartment is nice and light and bright and the windows in the bedroom and the living area can be opened right up when the weather is good.
The apartment is clean and well equipped. The kitchen has everything you could need for cooking, the wardrobe has plenty of good quality wooden hangers and there is a clothes airer for drying laundry if you prefer not to use the tumble dryer. We used the free wifi which was very fast and we were also able to make free phone calls back to Australia which was great. The bed and the sofa bed are very comfortable and the bed linen is super soft! The bookshelf has a good selection of books in English.
The Marais is a fascinating place in it's own right but it's also a good base from which to explore Paris. There is a metro station less than five minutes walk from the apartment and we found this was the quickest and easiest way to get everywhere we needed to go.
Don't hesitate to book this apartment if you're planning a trip to Paris. If it's available for your travel dates book it now before someone else snaps it up!
The pictures accurately portray the apartment. It is more spacious than other apartments I've rented in Europe. The kitchen was very well stocked with Utensils and appliances.
Since I arrived early and interrupted the cleaning, I know that it was well cared for. The apartment is very conveniently located near a main street as well as the metro. As a suggestion, get a metro map ahead of your visit. I quickly learned the system and would recommend for getting around.
The bed was very comfortable and on a vacation, sleep is important.
Carlos communicated well about the transaction Although I did not meet him Which came as a surprise to me. He did however send an email follow up upon my arrival. Despite the language difference, the cleaning lady provided me with the keys as well as pointing me in the general direction of local necessities such as the metro and a market. I may have overlooked this detail in the listing but this apartment is on the fifth floor and requires about an 85 step walk.
Since this apartment is in the heart of the Marais, it is an active area one that has noise late into the night Which tapers off during the week around 1 AM. There was construction across the street and the workers began working at 7 AM, which meant an early start to my day. None of these are within the control of the owner however just something future renters may want to keep in mind. In any big city however peace and quiet is a challenge to obtain.
I loved the washer and dryer availability, the full kitchen, and the comfort of the bed.
The bakery at the end of the street is wonderful. I would recommend the poppyseed rolls. The Lebanese restaurant at the corner is very good as well.
The location honestly couldn't be any better. I did enjoy my stay here and would recommend it to people who can manage the stairs and the noise level.
Minutes to Ile St Louis, Notre Dame, Place des Vosges, Pompidou Centre, Picasso Museum. Steps to boutiques, museums and a great variety of restaurants. 10 minutes metro/taxi to Gare du Nord, 40 minutes by train/ 25 minutes by taxi from Charles de Gaulle airport, 20 minutes by taxi Orly Airport.
