The house is in Barril de Alva and was renovated in 2009 to provide comfortable self catering facilities. The large lounge has 2 sofa beds and a TV and DVD player, there are also books and games provided. Patio doors open onto a natural stone patio with garden furniture and lovely views over the surrounding countryside to the mountains beyond. .
The kitchen area has a cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron/ironing board and all pots and pans necessary for your self catering needs. There is a dining area with table and chairs for 6 people and a door onto a large breakfast terrace where you can take your breakfast `al fresco` whilst enjoying the morning sun and the beautiful views.
There are 2 bedrooms, one has a double bed and the other 2 single beds. The bathroom has a shower and there is also a washing machine here.
There is a private, fenced garden to the front of the house and a covered area providing shade on very hot days with table, chairs and BBQ.
Barril de Alva is a pretty village set in the foothills of the Serra de Estrela in the Serra de Acores National Park approx. 45 kms from Coimbra and is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside.
There are several cafés, internet access is avaialble at the cafe in the centre of the village for a small charge. There is also a restaurant that provides take away meals, mini market and river beach less than 500ms from the house.
3kms away is Coja a small, ancient, market town with narrow cobbled streets. A Roman bridge spans the Rio Alva connecting the two sides of Coja where you will find everything you need including banks, shops and restaurants. There is a market on Saturdays.
12 kms away is the district town of Arganil with a larger selection of restaurants and shops etc. There is a district market here every Thursday morning. Throughout the summer there are various outside performances on a Friday and Saturday evening in the main square.
Conimbriga is where the best preserved Roman remains are and is approx. 1 hrs drive. In the other direction is the Serra de Estrela, the highest mountain range in Portugal which provides skiing in the winter and is approx. 1 hr drive.
