The villas have bathrooms upstairs and second toilets downstairs; Aleiki has a bath, Phoebe a shower. Aleiki also has a bathroom with shower in the garden and Phoebe has a private outdoor shower. This makes life with sandy kids much more convenient. The comfortable living rooms with dvd, sofabeds, wooden floors, beamed ceilings and thick stone walls, perfect for escaping the midday heat, are easy to use as 3rd bedrooms if needed. The kitchens have beautiful granite surfaces, and are fully equipped. LOTS OF REVIEWS AND MORE PHOTOS AT OUR WEBSITE - ( website link is just before the reviews section below )

Getting There: Charter flights from several UK airports fly to Kalamata May-October. From 2013 Easyjet fly direct from Gatwick to Kalamata and Ryanair fly from Milan to Kalamata. Easyjet to Athens has cheap seats if you book early. The journey is spectacular through the Taigetos Mountains - which divide the territories of the ancient kings Agamemnon (Mycenae), Menelaos (Sparta) and Nestor (Pylos). The new motorway, lined with Oleander and Cypress trees makes for an easy and pretty drive of about 2 and a half hrs to the foot of the mountains. If you decide to hire a car there are good deals with independent Greek companies at Athens airport. As you cross the Corinth Canal to the Peleponnese, a stop to admire this feat of c.19th engineering is a must. Agamemnon's palace at Ancient Myceae is well worth the short detour. .Don't hesitate to email us for further details.

Nice place for Christmas week.

Lovely and comfortable place in the center of Methoni. Quiet and friendly, few tourists and reasonable very good restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores. A place of long walks and ancient history, friendly and one we want to come back to. House was clean and, although the owners were gone, they left a nice Christmas tree and under it, a gift for our daughter.
Owner's Response: Out of season or in and especially at Christmas, New Year and Easter it is particularly pleasant to be here in Methoni. Family members return home from Athens or abroad and the pretty church at the end of our road becomes a focal point for celebration. You don't have to be Greek Orthodox to join a candlelit procession here - all are welcome. That's how Methoni is, and why all our guests, whatever their nationality have felt like locals themselves within a day or two. A couple of meals in the local taverna and you are 'in' - gossiping about olives, olives and … olives ( Now is the olive season as you may have gathered )!
Out of the heat of Summer is the best time to immerse yourself in the history, flora and fauna of this area - all at the same time! The sites of Ancient Bassae, Olympia, Messini and Nestor's Palace burst into life after the first September rain, and are dotted with wild cyclamen, arisaemas, crocus and Iris. Lizards, snakes and tortoises can be seen basking on the ancient stones. If you don't feel like driving there's Methoni castle, just a short and lovely walk away - the biggest and best preserved Medieval castle on the Mediterranean with over a mile of wild and barely explored walls, towers and tunnels. You are guaranteed to get back to the house with some great shots and probably a bunch of Spring flowers you considered rare before coming here.
Methoni contrasts with tourist oriented areas which although very busy in summer, virtually shut down out of season.
Of course the weather isn't as predictable, or as hot as summer, but this year Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing Day were a sunny 18C in the afternoons and we were enjoying sunshine until leaving for New Year in the UK. Thank you John, Summer and Aria for deciding to stay with us. We hope you can return one day…

Wonderful villa... and perfect for children!

This was the second time we'd stayed at one of Nigel and Fiona's properties and with a 3 year old in tow this time, Villa Aleiki was absolutely perfect. Its garden is completely enclosed so it feels very safe, and there were lots of distractions in the house (DVDs, books, toys) when the beach, the sun and sandcastles all got too much!

Methoni is as pretty and friendly as before, and you can buy all the essentials in the town. We spent every day the beautiful beach, using the hotel's loungers (for the price of a coffee!) or sitting reading in the wonderful garden at the Villa.

Nigel and Fiona were so helpful - before, during and after our holiday. We have recommended this villa and location to our friends, and we all very much look forward to spending another holiday at Villa Aleiki.
Owner's Response: We try to improve each year so our returning guests find something new. We've been able to extend the upper garden terraces and we've added an outside bathroom in Villa Aleiki to make life easier for sandy families and outside living. The grapevine is finally big enough to provide shade without it's bamboo roof and there are sun-loungers under the olive and citrus trees.

We're pleased to see Methoni improving as well, without losing its uniquely traditional village feel. As you mentioned the beach has now entered the age of sunbeds and there are different places to eat alongside the traditional tavernas. This includes the new child-friendly garden cafe that you recommended to us !

In the end, nothing beats watching the sunset over Methoni castle, the most awesome castle on the Mediterranean.

Thanks to you all for deciding to holiday with us for a second time, with a special mention to Oscar on his first visit.

Perfect Family Holiday Rental

Our family spent three and a half weeks in Greece. We spent the first two in Nigel and Fiona’s villas in Methoni and we spent the last week at their place in Gialova. Each of the locations was wonderful. The accommodations were even nicer than the pictures convey, they were extremely clean, and well-stocked. Furthermore, Nigel and Fiona were glad to provide everything we needed from DVDs for our kids (and the villas were great for kids with plenty of room) to tips about sites to see to advice on the best boat rentals and most beautiful beaches to explore. The location of the villas is also perfect—we loved exploring the Peloponnese from Methoni and Gialova. These villas—and their gracious owners—helped make for a perfect holiday for our family.

A safe beach for children

My family have stayed in both accommodations offered by Fiona and Nigel and our most recent visit was spent in their house in Methoni this October for 10 days. The house in Methoni is a ten minute walk to the beach and three minutes to a local supermarkets and cafes. The house has been refurnished to a comfortable standard with everything you will need. They have managed to keep the traditional feel of the house with the original wooden shutters on the windows and old log timber ceilings. You feel like you are in a local house and not in a modern holiday apartment.

It has a beautiful little private garden with lots of shade for the hot sunny days. The beach at Methoni is fantastic probably the safest beach for young children I have seen. The beach is clean the water beautiful and is very shallow for at least 20 metres with a very slight increase in depth. Our 9 month old baby boy loved crawling along the waters edge and exploring up to his chest.

From the beach there is an amazing view of islands, colourful small local fishing boats and the largest stone fort in the Mediterranean which is well worth spending an afternoon exploring. This part of Greece has been mostly untouched by foreign tourists so entry to the castle is free and you are free to roam at your leisure. There is a hotel set back from the beach which has a great veranda and bar with views of the castle, sea and boats perfect for a fresh orange juice or cold beer during the hottest part of the day.

There are numerous restaurants most are found around a little square just off the beach. We tried a few and would recommend Meltemi restaurant for fish souvlaki and one of the best Greek salads we tried in Methoni. Meltemi also has a good range of vegetarian dishes, and fresh fish caught in the morning, delicious! Another restaurant is Antonys Taverna try their fresh fish, squid, potato and cucumber salad and local rose wine. The house in Methoni is perfect for a beach holiday without the need for a car.

We have had a perfect holiday

We have had a perfect holiday in your lovely home. Methoni has everything you need and we never felt the need for a car. Swimming off the rocks at sunset with views of the castle was idyllic. Our favourite taverna was Kastro’s – delicious ‘pitta kebab’ and v.cheap ! We also recommend hiring a boat from the dive shop ( Nico’s) in Pylos – lots of pretty coves and beaches to explore. I’m afraid we can’t report on any of the historical sites and it was too hot to even contemplate any of them ! Your olives were without doubt the best we sampled ! Thank you for being so helpful from start to finish.

Car: not necessary

Bordered by a long sandy beach (with safe shallows), a C.13th Venetian castle to explore and great restaurants, cafes, and shops, everything you need for a perfect holiday is right here. A car is not a necessity.Take an evening stroll 300metres behind the cottage to the clifftops to see the sun set over the sea ( ther's also a little bar up there). Untouched by development, Methoni is friendly and traditional; you'll soon feel like a local. Try Andreas' taverna - 1 minute's walk from your door for some of the best local and innovative dishes in the Peloponnese. There are regular buses from the stop just around the corner for trips to Pylos or further afield and boat trips to the island of Sapienza. The peninsula is great for cycling and if you do wish to hire a car the sites and museums of ancient Olympia, Messini and Nestor's palace are a must, as well as stunning Voidokilia beach - one of the best in Europe.
