Houghton Condo Rental Photos and Description
Condo, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)
Come to where you can relax enough to feel your heart beat. This is one of the most unique properties in the Copper Country and no other vacation rental in the area offers as much. There's almost 40 acres to explore with hundreds of feet of frontage around a small bay on a dead-end road only eight miles from town. It's private enough to sit outside on the lanai in your pajamas and enjoy your morning coffee. In the evenings, watch the stars while sitting around a stone ringed fire pit. You'll be able to see wildlife while fishing, birdwatching, lounging or just walking on this beautiful piece of property. Fish out front in the bay or off of the point where there are Northern Pike, Bass and Perch. Walleye and Lake Trout are just a short distance away. There's also a pond on the property that is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout and Bluegills. A 12' rowboat, 4 person pedal boat and 2 person sit-on-top kayak are included for guests to use. There's usually a breeze that has the added bonus of keeping the bugs away!
Newly constructed (2006) guest suite has easy level access and no stairs. The place stays naturally cool in summer and has ceramic tile floors with in-floor heat for those chilly days. The rooms are very comfortable and the view from each room looks out over the field onto unspoiled waterfront. For about the price of two hotel rooms, you'll get a lot more room and privacy. You can make yourself at home and visit in the family room or have some peace and quiet in a bedroom.....ideal for extended families or friends traveling together. There is no problem getting wireless access like there can be in a hotel.
The place is fully furnished with linens, dishes and utensils and also has a charcoal BBQ, wireless internet, satellite TV and a library of books. There are clock radio alarms, light weight cotton bathrobes and night lights in each bedroom. There is a high chair, pack-n-play, sippy cups and a toddler swing for small children. The bathroom has a hair dryer and an adjustable height shower chair for those with limited mobility.
You'll want to have your camera around if you are a birdwatcher. Eagles perch in the tree next to the house on a regular basis. There has been several unusual sightings of birds on the property such as a Dicksissel (first sighting in this area in almost 20 years), Cattle Egret, Pelicans, Swans, Yellow Headed Blackbird and Harris' Sparrow. Many bird species are 'regulars' including Sandhill Cranes, Eagles, Great Horned Owls, Blue Herons, Green Herons, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Pine Grosbeaks, Evening Grosbeaks, Bobolinks, Bluebirds, Indigo Buntings, barn swallows, many ducks etc., etc., etc. If you are patient and quiet enough, you may even get a Hummingbird to land on your finger at the feeder.
In winter, there are several top notch cross country ski trails in the area and snowmobilers have hundreds of miles of trails to explore. In any season, it's fun to just take a drive and enjoy the scenic beauty and rich history of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The UP was listed as #10 in the list of 'top 10 summer destinations in the world' at the shermanstravel web site and the article was displayed in the MSN travel section.

About The Owner
I've been accommodating travelers since 1993.
The Owner purchased this condo in 2006
Why The Owner chose Houghton
This is a very unique piece of property..... almost 40 acres on the lake AND a stocked trout pond. It's only 8 miles from town, but it feels like a remote get-a-away. No noisy streets or bright city lights.... You can really SEE the stars at night.
What makes this condo unique
The beauty, peace and quiet that you can find here are difficult to find in today's world. This is truly a family spot that kids love to explore and is easy for grandparents to get around. Guests have three boats to take out onto the bay to explore and fish. Don't forget your camera to snap photos of the deer passing through, the Sandhill Cranes that usually come into the bay to spend the night and Eagles that perch in a tree right next to the house.
