TRADITIONAL BEARNAISE STYLE HOUSE WITH PRIVATE POOL

The title says it all.
We were so happy with this holiday home and its location we decided to come back!

We fell in love with the region during our first visit in summer 2009 and didn't have time to visit all the places we would have like to have seen. (See previous review). Even after our second visit, we left a lot of territory undiscovered and I regretted not having had enough time to laze around the pool and soak up the view.

My opinion hasn't changed since my first review, the house is spotlessly clean and generously equipped. The kitchen has all the modern appliances and the pool is very clean and well maintained. The owners have employed a new pool maintenance man who comes by to check the pool twice a week so there is no longer any problem with the pool turning green when it gets hot. Families with small children who cannot swim need to be vigilant because there isn't a safety fence. My husband appreciated the air conditioning which helped cool down the house after a hot day and the warm poolside shower.

We enjoyed visiting the picturesque villages of Espelette (pigment), Cambo-lles-Bains and Ainhoa. Took the cogwheel train up to the summit of La Rhune which is a pleasant outing for families with children and returned to Lac de Gaube and Pont d'Espagne. Hiked up to Pic de la Sagettte from Lac Artrouste which was very rewarding for the magnificent views but not for the faint hearted. Visited the old town of Bayonne and the Biarritz beaches.

Thank you Ruth and Colin for entrusting us with your home. We appreciated your thoughtful welcome package and all the little extras (library, maps, extra linen etc) which help make a difference even most luxury accommodations would have trouble equalling.

We spent 3 wonderful weeks at this property in July 2012. It is a real home from home and has absolutely everything you could wish for, from all the usual things like pool, air con, dishwasher etc, all the way down to a spare needle and thread!! Everything has been though of! The house was presented in an immaculate condition (thanks Celine!) and the weekly house keeping / laundry change day is an additional indulgence. If you are looking to get away from it all in a comfortable house with all the creature comforts of home, you will not do better than this. We were a family of 5 and there was plenty of accomodation on every front for an additional 2 people if necessary. The local village is very small and quiet but the bustling town of Orthez is only 10 mins drive away and has all the major supermarkets etc. An ideal property in a beautiful location - thank you!
