Overview

Lanneplaa House Rental Photos and Description

Self catering three bed roomed sleeps up to six, large garden

A detached oak beamed house located in a small rural village in the heart of the Bearn region with a large private garden and views of rolling countryside and Pyrenees mountains. It is just 10 minutes from all services in Orthez.

The house has a spacious open plan lounge/dining room with a wood burning stove and a well equipped separate kitchen. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and modern bathroom and a large mezzanine landing. A double bedroom with ensuite shower and separate toilet are downstairs. At the rear of the house is a large car parking area, a swimming pool, garden furniture and barbeque are in the garden. Electric heating/air conditioning in all rooms.

Local town Orthez: Orthez is an historic 16th century town with all facilities including large supermarkets, good choice of restaurants and weekly market selling local produce and clothing. It has an indoor swimming pool and attractive lake with sandy beach offering sailing and water skiing. Canoes, Kayaks, horse riding, white water rafting and fishing are available nearby on the Gaves de Pau.

Surrounding area: Picturesque Sallies de Bearne, famous for its salt spa, is nearby and well worth a visit. It also has a casino, weekly market and golf course. Sauveterre de Bearne is another nearby historic town and Navarrenx has walled ramparts around the town. White water rafting and fishing are available on the Gaves de Pau and Oloron. Lanneplaa has beautiful surrounding countryside and there are several signed Jacques De Compostelle marked walks and cycling for all ages. Tour De France passes through the nearby area in July 2012.

Beaches and Pyrenees mountains: The famous Atlantic surfing beaches at Biarritz are only one hour away. Sandy family beaches extend down to the Spanish border, including the resort of St John de Luz with its beautiful harbour. San Sebastien and Pamplona are within two hours drive. The Pyrenees mountains can be reached within one and half hours including several ski resorts eg. Gouvelle and Pierre St Martin. Lourdes is approximately one hour away and Pau has some interesting sites in the city centre. Easy access to the motorway allows quick transfer to Pau and Biarritz airports . There is a 9 hole golf course in Sallies De Bearn two courses in Pau area and several in Biarritz area.

Lovely Holiday Home

  • 4 of 5

A well-maintained and comfortable holiday home on the edge of a pretty village. The house is well equipped at all levels - indoor and outdoor games, books, tourist guides and great kitchen facilities. A perfect location if you are looking for a peaceful holiday.

The area offers a variety of activities - but you must be prepared to drive some distances. An hours drive will bring you to the beautiful coast line near Biarritz. The Pyrenees are dramatic and a visit to Artouste is recommended.

I think future visitors (especially those arriving late in the evening) should be aware that, although the website mentions a 'full welcome pack',including bread this is not the case. We did however, enjoy the fruit and bottle of wine.

We left France feeling relaxed and would like to visit this area again.

Wonderful house, great pool, garden and view

  • 5 of 5

House is well maintained, charming and has a good feeling. It is fully equipped with a good visitors guide and instructions for all equipment. Owners are very friendly and so is the staff, who live nearby. It is clean and spacious and has wi-fi.

Particularly nice are the airconditioning in all three bedrooms, the two good bathrooms, the beautiful and spacious garden with a good size pool and terrace with six lying-chairs, outside table & chairs and barbecue.

The location is quiet, gives a wonderful country feeling, while the historic town Orthez is not far away. You are a good hour from Biarritz and one can make wonderful outings into the Pyrenees. We will recommend it to friends and we will be back one day.

The best holiday accommodation ever,

  • 5 of 5

Wow, we fell in love with this house as we drove through the gate The palatial feel and fantastic setting is out of this world.

The house is better than described, the inside is fantastic and the out of the way location is just the place for a relaxing break.

The house was exceedingly clean and very well maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend this to any one. There is everything provided. The Local people who look after the house are extremely friendly and helpful.

There is a brilliant lake close by and the local supermarkets are just minutes away from the house.

We used our car to explore the local area and enjoyed some fantastic meals. the best was in Salies-de-Bearn the restaurant de voisins. The food was about as good as it gets and the service was first class.

In our dealings with the owners we received first class information and service, they were concerned that one of our party uses a wheel chair and explained how we could make best use of the house and local facilities, they even provided information on beaches that were particular of use to disabled people. Our favorite was at Capbreton where the lifeguards gave us the use of a sand buggy.

We have used many different types of house/villa over the past 14 years in many different locations not only in France, but Portugal and Italy. I can with out any doubt say this house in Lanneplaa is simply the best.

Schöne Lage, ruhig und sehr erholsam.

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit!

  • 5 of 5

The title says it all.

We were so happy with this holiday home and its location we decided to come back!

We fell in love with the region during our first visit in summer 2009 and didn't have time to visit all the places we would have like to have seen. (See previous review). Even after our second visit, we left a lot of territory undiscovered and I regretted not having had enough time to laze around the pool and soak up the view.

My opinion hasn't changed since my first review, the house is spotlessly clean and generously equipped. The kitchen has all the modern appliances and the pool is very clean and well maintained. The owners have employed a new pool maintenance man who comes by to check the pool twice a week so there is no longer any problem with the pool turning green when it gets hot. Families with small children who cannot swim need to be vigilant because there isn't a safety fence. My husband appreciated the air conditioning which helped cool down the house after a hot day and the warm poolside shower.

We enjoyed visiting the picturesque villages of Espelette (pigment), Cambo-lles-Bains and Ainhoa. Took the cogwheel train up to the summit of La Rhune which is a pleasant outing for families with children and returned to Lac de Gaube and Pont d'Espagne. Hiked up to Pic de la Sagettte from Lac Artrouste which was very rewarding for the magnificent views but not for the faint hearted. Visited the old town of Bayonne and the Biarritz beaches.

Thank you Ruth and Colin for entrusting us with your home. We appreciated your thoughtful welcome package and all the little extras (library, maps, extra linen etc) which help make a difference even most luxury accommodations would have trouble equalling.
