Kea House Rental Photos and Description
8 bed, 8 bath all en suite, sleeps 16 comfortably or upto 19 if some children
Villa St.Nikolaos View provides flexible accommodation for a large group of family or friends with 4 separate areas of accommodation within one house. Ideal for mutual independence.
Kea has all the advantages of a remote Greek island but only a short transfer of 1.5/2hr from Athens Airport via port of Lavrio.
Kea is a hidden delight - just a one hour ferry crossing from Lavrio which is situated at the end of the Attica Peninsular not far from the temple at Cape Sounion. There are few hotels but many beautiful beaches and excellent, reasonably priced restaurants. We are now taking bookings for next Spring/Summer. For Winter, and Spring breaks, please contact us as the property is ideal even for an off season get away for even as few as 2 people. We will of course consider a discounted rate for smaller groups and for longer periods. If you need a longer stay or intend to do some work or even write a book, or just need somewhere quiet for a period of studying (we have full wifi coverage), the tranquility and the view all year round is inspiring.
This is not a pure 'rental' house. It is very much our own house that we live in for part of the year ourselves and just let it out to help pay for the inevitable upkeep. Accordingly it is extremely comfortably furnished and decorated. A professional cook who was looking after one of our groups of guests last year said that the kitchen was the best equipped of any rental property she had been to.
The view from nearly every part of the house must be one of the best views on the island! On entering one gets the first view of the St.Nikolaos lighthouse. This theme runs throughout with most rooms and balconies having a similar view. The pergola covered veranda on the top floor with large BBQ and eating area as well as further open air seating has the best view of all and is ideal for sunset cocktails. Further details of the accommodation below.
Villa St.Nikolaos view is ideally placed to provide a relaxing holiday for all. Being so close to both the beach and rocks for swimming and the delightful port of Vourkari, all the guests can 'do their own thing' without the need of being driven around or lengthy walks. Many of of the other properties on Kea are remote and while many have lovely views, inevitably a lot of time can be spent driving around Kea's bumpy roads. However, this is not the case with Villa St.Nikolaos View as everything one needs is a short walk away with the car only needed for the odd trip to the supermarket or butcher/baker etc. only 2km away.
Kea is the hidden jewel of the Cyclades. There are very few hotels and most of the people there are either local families or Athenian Greeks with summer houses. The delightful safe haven of Vourkari attracts yachts of all shapes and sizes giving it a cosmopolitan but relaxed feel. There are a good number of restaurants and tavernas around the Bay of Vourkari as well as a plentiful supply of local produce to cook at home in the extremely well fitted kitchen. Go down to the port in the morning and buy fresh fish straight from the fishing boats. However the fishmonger in the main port, who owns most of the fishing boats gets the best of the catch so you can equally place your orders with him for the following day.
The house is ideal for a group of families although equally comfortable for a group of adults. However it's lay out and location really make it ideal for 2 or 3 family groups of varying sizes with kids generally mucking in together leaving their parents to the best rooms! The area around the house is safe as the road behind is cul-de-sac and ideal for boys and girls to expend some energy kicking around a football. The neighbours are all friendly and usually our guest's children overcome the language barrier with the local children - although the Greek children's English tends to be better than that of their parents!
There is a gas hob and a sink outside on the veranda along with a substantial BBQ so cooking under the stars is equally possible.
Included in the price is a full 6 hour clean and sheet/towel change mid 2 week stay and a final clear up after you leave. However if you would like a daily visit from the cleaner this can also be arranged at a small extra cost for either a full time or just a few hours be day to take away the chore of washing up/bed making and loading/emptying the dishwasher! Indeed, we can also arrange a cook.chef to come in from time to time. Our extremely trustworthy cleaner will also arrange babysitting . Anything is possible - just ask!
The house is very much geared up for children of all ages. There are 4 TVs inc a home cinema system. Also we have 2 wifi systems to ensure that those who cannot be torn away from their iphones and blackberries have free access to the internet.
There is a child gate at the top of the stairs and also a fence across the veranda to keep little ones away from the balcony. The fact that there is no pool will be a relief to anyone with small children, as we have, as so many villas have un-fenced pools adjacent to the accommodation which, while great for adults and older kids is a constant worry for those with babies and toddlers.
On the top floor is a stunning open plan kitchen/sitting room + a high ceilinged study with a double bed on a mezzanine and balcony as well as the open air seating/dining area complete with outside kitchen and large BBQ.
In addition to the bedroom in the study on the top floor, main bedrooms are at ground floor level as well as a separate guest room with shower room,kitchenette,a/c and own balcony. Stairs lead down to a 2 bedroom apartment with a small kitchen and private veranda + a utility room with washer/dryer/drinks fridge etc.. In addition there is a further large guest room with large flat screen tv with a comfortable double sofabed plus a separate 2nd sofa. All bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and fans and/or a/c where mentioned.
It's locality, within walking distance of the very safe Gialiskari Beach with a small beach bar for light lunches and drinks as well as the fishing port of Vourkari's restaurants and bars which are open til the early hours in season, also make it the ideal safe destination for those with teenagers who may want to spend some time out without their parents!
The island has plenty of other beaches, most of which are accessible by car. Otzias beach in the north - a 10 minute drive away - is a favourite of our guests. The beach teverna has particularly good reviews. We will leave details of the best beaches, particularly the sheltered ones in case the warm Meltemi blows from the north. There are some lovely walks in the interior of the island and a trip to the beaches of Koundouros, where there are nice beaches and water sports - ski boat, windsurfers, do'nut, canoes etc., at the other end of the island and is a nice day trip.
Kea is very easy to get to as the ferry port of Lavrio is only a 30 minute drive from Athens airport. The ferry journey is a relaxing 1 hour but be sure to try to time your flights to suit the ferry timetable which can be found, along with more details of the island on www.kea-tzia.gr. If you do find you have some time to kill in Lavrio, we can advise you of the best tavernas serving fresh fish and chilled white wine to help you unwind after your flight while waiting for your ferry. Note the schedules do change from the spring onward with many more ferries in the summer than in the winter, particularly around week-ends. It is perfectly possible to not have a car as the airport to Lavrio is only a Euro 40-45 ride or, if you have time a much cheaper bus ride is fun and there are plentiful taxis on the island, not to mention the buses that regularly ply the route between Chora and Otzias (in the north of the island - has a nice sandy beach) via the port and Vourkari. However a car per family is advisable and remains the best way to get from the airport to Kea taking the car on the ferry - approx Euro 35 each way and Euro 8 per person. Although there is parking for 2 cars, more can park in the quiet dead end road behind the property or down on the road below.
However do not hire cars that are too big as people carriers or the larger 4x4 will struggle to get down our lane. Of course larger cars can be parked nearby but direct access to the property is limited for such vehicles.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from in both the port (Limani) and Vourkari without ever being cajoled by pushy front men prevalent in most other islands. A trip up the hill to the Chora for dinner at Rolando's (surely the best mousaka in Greece!) is a must. Again we will leave details of the best restaurants all over the island. Booking is advisable in the high season.
The interior of the island is ideal for hiking and the 1 hour trek down to the ancient temple site of Karthea on the other side of the island is an interesting excursion.
We may be prepared to consider part rental of the property outside the main July/August season as the house lends itself to privacy for different party groups.
Cleaning is included once per week but more regular or even daily visits can be arranged at extra cost. Babysitting can also be arranged with our very trustworthy cleaner.

About Nick Hubband and Nicky Malliaros
We live partly in UK and partly on the beautiful island of Kea so this is very much a family house and equipped to a very high standard. It is not a typical rental property. Nicky's family have owned the plot for many years and the house was rebuilt by Nicky's engineer step father in 2008-9 to his very high standards.
Nick Hubband and Nicky Malliaros purchased this house in 1980
Why Nick Hubband and Nicky Malliaros chose Kea
The main feature of our house is its covenience for the beach and the village of Vourkari as well as, of course, the spectacular view at all times of day and night. These along with the fact that it is very child friendly make it an ideal spot for a family holiday.
What makes this house unique
This is a family house, not a pure rental property. It is set us for us to live in, as we do for many months each year, and as a result it is very comfortable and well equipped - particularly the kitchen as we are both enthusiastic cooks.I also work from here so internet and printing facilities available. It is ideal for mixed groups of families and friends as it has 4 separate living areas so people can maintain their independence - something that is very important for a relaxing holiday.
