LE ROSIER - LE PETIT-MANOIR

Sarlat la Caneda Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Best location, Sarlat 5 min, Pool, WiFi, 4 star rated - see Guestbook Comments

Within the golden triangle of Montfort, Beynac and Sarlat, five kilometers south of Sarlat and near the 12th century village of Vitrac, we have an ideally located property of exceptional beauty. The property consists of a group of vast and imposing original stone buildings surrounded by three hectares (7 acres) of park and private forest. A prized south of Sarlat location, just a few hundred meters from the Dordogne river, yet within five minutes by car (even in July and August) from the medieval charm of Sarlat, the capital of Perigord Noir, its excellent restaurants, shops, markets and festivals. Both quiet and peaceful, but close to everything and not isolated. Our three charming gîtes, Le Pommier, Le Rosier and Le Bois, are perfect for your self catering holiday rental while you explore the beautiful Dordogne valley. Very comfortable and full of character, each has a large private garden, barbecue and use of a chlorine free heated swimming pool. Official 4 star rating.

SARLAT: Sarlat is by far the most important tourist site in the region. Over a million visitors discover or re-discover this medieval jewel every year. It has one of the largest medieval urban areas in the world and the greatest number of historical monuments per square kilometer in Europe. Starting in 1964 the town has been restored and renovated revealing a veritable treasure trove of Medieval and Renaissance art to the public. The 1978 film version of “Les Miserables” was filmed extensively in Sarlat, but also in nearby Domme, with the stunning Beynac Castle standing in for the famous Toulon Jail. Sarlat’s wonderful architecture and medieval style buildings and stone roofs have made a backdrop for a score of other top motion pictures since, which has added to it’s fame and it’s fortune.

BEYNAC: The cliff-clinging Chateau de Beynac soars 150 meters straight up above the Dordogne river. Apart from the impressive location, Chateau de Beynac is also a fascinating castle to visit and explore. You can see many of the ancient rooms, dungeons, kitchens and living quarters. In 1189 Richard the Lionheart, the king of England, seized the castle by scaling the cliffs below and entering through the toilet holes that are suspended out over the cliff. They are still there today and can be visited. Beynac has served as a location for several films, including Jeanne d'Arc by Luc Besson, in 1999.

OTHER THINGS TO SEE : Our own personal website contains a comprehensive guide of all the must-see attractions in the Black Perigord including a map, beautiful photos and a brief description in five languages. You will also find a map of nearby stores and recommended bakeries (with opening hours and days closed), pharmacies, post office, bike rentals, a farm selling directly fresh foie gras products, etc. and a lot of other useful information.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Words can't adequately express how special our week with friends in the Dordogne was. The accommodation here and your warm welcome made it a little corner of paradise for us. It is a perfectly safe place for the kids to run free and we all made good us e of the pool, garden and all three gites. This part of Perigord is divine! There is just so much to see and do. You would need at least a month to do it justice. One perfect week made for a very memorable 50th birthday for Michelle and planted a seed of an idea for more holidays.

Thank you so much.

Perfect, exactly as described on the website

  • 5 of 5
The property was exactly as described and pictured on their website and perfect for us - 2 adults and 2 children (9 & 7), it was clean and well maintained as were all areas (garden, pool etc.). Karen and Peter were very warm and welcoming hosts and always happy to help. We made full use of our private garden area & barbecue, pool, gardens and table tennis.

The location was beautiful and we had plenty to do during our week, including many of the recommendations on Le Petit Manoir's website.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Le Petit Manoir, we had a fantastic time.

Superb accommodation in the beautiful Dordogne.

  • 5 of 5
From first contact to fond farewells, Karen and Peter are wonderful hosts.

Le Petit-Manoir has the best website we have ever encountered: with immediate response, easy booking and all the information you will ever need. The internet site is a reflection of the courtesy, professionalism and friendliness of these delightful people.

While the owners respect your privacy, they are always available if you need advice or assistance.

Provided you have a car, it is a fantastic base to visit all of the Region, interspersed with relaxing by the pool and dining in your private garden.

The three well planned units are large and well equipped, whilst private and peaceful. All facilities are accurately described and of a very high standard.

The fragrant gardens of the Manor provide a delightful stroll, especially in the long evenings.

The Dordogne is a very easy sell to any tourist because it offers just about any activity you could choose, combined with all levels of dining; and their website provides comprehensive information on the vast range available,

Le Petit-Manoir provides for a perfect holiday.

Heavenly Stay for 3 Weeks

  • 5 of 5
Karen & Peter, owners, are incredibly gracious hosts & generous with their attention to your comfort. They couldn't be more terrific! They encourage guests to knock on their door with any requests and truly mean it! Karen is a great resource for your daytripping. She also will make restaurant reservations for you if you don't have a phone. The whole property is beautiful with their dreamy private manor house right next to the gites, which are located in the original barn. Peter handled the gutting, layout, & construction of the gites, which contain all the modern conveniences. We loved Le Rosier and chose it because of its beautiful, charming garden. All gites have a very private entry and garden. The rural neighborhood location is outstanding with fabulous villages to visit, tons of restaurants and necessary shopping nearby. May weather can be & was variable so we can report that the heat and AC worked very well in the gite. The kitchen is well furnished & each gite has a DW, gas range, washer, TV, WiFI, computer, DVD player. (Orange cell service does not work at the gite BTW) The gite was very well cared for as was the entire property and pool area. The neighborhood is a great place to take long walks or bike rides. Le Rosier has the smallest living area of the 3 gites. It does have a front door leading to the beautiful private garden with BBQ grill and a back door leading to the parking. Having both entries with French doors allowed a lot of sunlight into the gite. I toured Le Pommier and found it more spacious but you will give up the beautiful garden of Le Rosier. However, the additional suite, La Tourette, is out of a book! It has a stellar bath as well. I did not see the 3rd gite. Cell service from Orange does not work on the propery, BTW. Karen can tell you which SIM card to buy. There are markets in the area almost every day. Sarlat is worth several visits and only 10 minutes away. Restaurants abound, couldn't make a dent in them in 3 weeks. Menus are fairly repetitive. You will have plenty of duck! Supermarkets are a dream so we loved cooking in the gite. Of course, cheese, wine, bread, pate and foie gras are abundant. Train service from Paris can be scheduled into Sarlat. Flights into Toulouse make the most sense though you can fly into Bordeaux. Take Karen American food of her choice. She can't get everything in France & misses some things! (She will hate that I said that, she doesn't expect anything!!!) We loved the place & Karen and Peter!

Beautiful property; warm, gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5
This was our second multi-week stay at Le Petit Manoir and it will not be our last. The apartment is nicely appointed and immaculately clean with excellent wi-fi and cable service. I'm a big guy (6'3") and I appreciate the roomy shower and excellent water pressure. The entire property is beautiful and affords you privacy when you want it, but access to the owners if you need help with travel and shopping advice, or restaurant reservations. Karen and Peter are wonderful hosts, so caring and charming.
The location is perfect…just far enough out of the village to be nice and quiet, but a lovely short walk gets your right down to the Dordogne River and a number of excellent restaurants right in town.
Vitrac is the perfect base from which to tour the Dordogne region, being within a15-minute drive of the great walled towns of Domme, La Roque Gageac, and Beynac , gardens, and of course, Sarlat. Both years we stayed there we had friends and/or family visit and stay in the second bedroom and they loved the place as well. This place is a gem, and so are the owners.
