Peaceful countryside location with landscaped gardens

Le Rocher is a delightful detached stone cottage, sleeping up to five people, on the edge of the tiny village of Couesmes-Vaucé and surrounded by beautiful Normandy countryside. Available for self-catering rental throughout the year, it has been renovated to a very high standard, with many of the original features combining perfectly with every modern convenience. The ground floor has a comfortable lounge and kitchen/diner with all the mod-cons to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The first floor has three bedrooms comprising two doubles (one with en-suite with bath and shower) and a single. There is also a shower room with toilet and basin. Le Rocher stands in landscaped gardens of about an acre, where you can relax with a drink and listen to the birds or fire up the barbecue on those long, warm summer evenings.

We are here to help: Owners Mick and Fay live on-site and are therefore available to answer any questions you may have about Le Rocher and the surrounding area. Both keen gardeners, they are also more than happy to share their fresh seasonal vegetables with their guests. A light meal on arrival can be prepared if booked in advance.

Relax and enjoy!

First impressions were of the inside of the gite: clean, comfy, well-stocked and well thought-out. Second impressions were of the outside which will not disappoint; have a look at the photos to get an idea of the tranquility and beauty of the grounds. Our daughter loved playing in the woods, den-building and animal-watching; so much so we ended up buying new wellies for her adventures!

Mick's soup on arrival was delicious and having a meal waiting was indicative of the thoughtfulness and hospitality of a lovely couple wanting the best for their guests.

We ventured out and about every day as there is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area but coming back to the garden chairs, wine and late afternoon sun (and the den) was what our holiday was all about. Thank you Mick and Fay for all your attention to detail and kindness. Here's to your future garden project and your health.

A little bit of heaven on earth!!

Our 6th visit to this superb gite, so spotlessly clean and so well equipped. Mick and Fay have become close friends to us over those years and each year we look forward to our stay at their lovely gite and gardens, the valley and ponds are beautiful. There are loads of pretty villages around the area and the Mayenne river is gorgeous. Lots to do and see and they make your visit most comfortable. Wifi is available should you need it but the most important thing is the happy, relaxed atmosphere. Thank you once again, dear friends, for a lovely break. Xx

Remote but very nice

Hosts were nice. Property was clean and as advertised.

The internet connect was very spotty and when we did get a signal could not log on. So if you rely on the internet, you should verify with the owner if it is working.

Owner's Response: We apologise for you not getting connected to WIFI at the time you spent at our gite. We couldn't understand why you couldn't get connected. Everyone else that was in the gite before your arrival did manage to use our WiFI. You only had a problem with the WIFI and not the gite, which is as everyone else as written, beautiful. So therefore we don't agree with your 3 star rating..!

WONDERFUL HOLIDAY HOME

We had a lovely time at Mick and Fayes holiday home, they were very attentive to any needs we had and had equipped the holiday home with everything needed.

The garden is magnificent, a lovely spot to drink and have a glass of wine or even a picnic in the garden if you have children as plenty of space for them to play about in.

It was very clean and in a lovely area.

There is the Du Pin Haras to visit where you can go and see a horse parade about one hour away and only 6 euros for the show.

Amazing Chateaus to visit and if you are feeling more adventurous go to the vineyards further down in the Loire Valley and have some degustations.

Overall all a pleasant stay.

Oh and Faye makes amazing soup for your arrival after your long journey.

wonderful break

We arrived at La Rocher, after a straightforward drive from Calais (5hrs ish) to be greeted by Mick + Fay, (who turned out to be wonderful hosts) and a pan of homemade soup hmmmmmm !! the gite has everything you could need for a relaxing holiday, very very clean,and well appointed, Mick+Fay turned out to be a bonus, they have a massive garden (6 acres) meadow etc which they are more than happy for you to enjoy, we spent a lot of time exploring the surrounding villages, there are some beautiful places/churches to see, we liked so many we couldnt pick a favourite.La Rocher is perfect either as a base before you go sightseeing, or as a place to relax and watch the world go by,enjoying the beautiful gardens. All in all we couldnt fault our time spent at Mick+Fays little piece of heaven, we highly recommend a visit..E + H..Fareham,Hants

Le Rocher - a little gem at Couesmes.

Despite the awful weather we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at Le Rocher. In such weather it was imperative that our accommodation was comfortable and Le Rocher supplied that in abundance - from the most comfortable beds and leather sofas in the lounge, to the kitchen that supplied everything we needed. Indeed the whole cottage was so clean we wondered if anyone else had lived there. This is a tribute to the attention to detail that Fay and Mick have lavished on the cottage to make it comfortable for their guests. Le Rocher was more like a home from home with lovely ornaments and pictures decorating the rooms. Outside, the patio and the mature gardens just longed for some sunshine so we could linger there with that glass of wine. Through the shrubbery we found the horses and the vegetable garden and beyond that the field and the valley both of which are still part of the property. Mick and Fay were the kindest of hosts bringing us some lovely home made soup, gratefully received on a very cold day, and vegetables from their own plot. We lacked for nothing in the accommodation or in kindness from Fay and Mick and we must surely return in the future to see Le Rocher in the sunshine. We hope that Mick returns to full health and returns to finish the pond in the valley! We enjoyed visiting the small villages all around this area and also going further afield to Mayenne, Alencon, and Domfront where we found an outlet for Calvados! For a really French lunch experience - try the restaurant at Brécé on a Friday - but remember to book! To finish, we found that Le Rocher lived up to - and indeed exceeded its description in the brochure.

Le Rocher is ideally situated for all the attractions Normandy and the Pays de Loire have to offer. The medieval town of Domfront is just 20 minutes away, as is Mayenne with all its shops and restaurants. Laval, the capital of Mayenne, is under an hour away, while the Normandy Landing beaches are less than 90 minutes by car. And your holiday would not be complete without a visit to the fabulous Mont St Michel and Concale, the oyster capital of France. Both again just a gentle drive away. Ambrieres is a mere ten minutes away and has two restaurants and a leisure park with open-air swimming pool and sailing. Gorron is the same distance away and has a newly-restored indoor swimming pool, bars, restaurants and supermarkets for all that lovely wine and cheese! Slightly closer to home, Couesmes has a little bar and shop for those last-minute essentials.
