DETACHED STONE HOUSE WITH PRIVATE POOL & STUNNING VIEWS

Arles-sur-Tech House Rental Photos and Description

Characterful, 100-year-old, spacious home in south-facing peaceful setting

La Cougouillade is a highly individual, lovingly restored house situated on the hillside above a small hamlet outside the medieval village of Arles-sur-Tech. Facing south towards the mountains, it is flooded with sunlight throughout the year but with plenty of shade in the summer months thanks to the old linden tree and wisteria covering the lovely terrace. The property is in enclosed grounds with a mature garden and a newly built pool, all enjoying magnificent views. Inside the accommodation is very flexible. The spacious living room (60m2) contains a lounge area, with open fire, and dining area. Off this are a reading lounge and a study which can be used as a 5th bedroom if required. Arles-sur-Tech is 5 minutes drive and the beautiful mountain river, Le Tech, is a 5 minute walk down the valley. The location is rich in animal and bird life and there are footpaths to be explored from the house in every direction, making this the ideal setting for a relaxing, varied family holiday.

Flights: Perpignan (45 minutes ) and Gerona (1hr 15 minutes) are the closest airports to the property, served by Ryanair (London Stansted and Luton). Ryanair also flies regularly to Gerona from both Newcastle and Durham Teeside airports.

You can also choose from Montpellier (Easyjet), Toulouse (BA) and Barcelona (many airlines).

A LOVELY PLACE TO SPEND SOME TIME

  • 5 of 5
We had a fabulous week La Cougoillade ,the house was a lovely place to stay with lots of nice spaces, the area was great to explore and the weather was perfect. We stayed as a family of 8 including 2 young children. The 3 main bedrooms were vary spacious and comfortable and the children loved thier rooms on the front of of our bedroom which was perfect as we didnt wake up the rest of the family when they woke up at night. Only thing to watch with young children would be the stairs but everything else was very safe. The house is tucked away and had nice views but wasnt too far from a Spare in Arles whcih you could walk to within about 15 minutes easiliy enough.
We enjoyed the baddminton also, so much so I'm going to buy a set for my garden at home.
Would love to come again

Owner's Response: many thanks Alan for your kind words, so glad you like the house and area as much as we do! I am glad you like the linked front bedrooms as I think they give real character to the house. And we always play badminton obsessively, great that you have caught the bug! Come again any time, you are welcome!

PERFECT HOLIDAYS IN LA COUGOUILLADE

  • 5 of 5
Very spacious house, calm with a lot of "cachet". Amazing view from the terrace. Cool inside when it's warm outside (fist floor). Lovely moments at the pool with a glass of rosé (I agree with "frazer", a second fridge close to the pool would be perfect !). The area is beautiful (thanks to Alison for the adress in Tapis... incredible meat and a wonderfull road). I hardly recommand the house !

LA COUGOUILLADE IN JULY/AUGUST

  • 5 of 5
Lovely spacious villa with lots of character, there were 8 of staying and it was easy to find our own quiet areas inside or out!
Everything was very clean, the kitchen well equipped and the WiFi and HD Freeview were a bonus for keeping up to date with the Olympics!
The pool was fantastic - larger than we expected and offered great mountain views while basking in the lovely warm water !
We has some nice trips to Carcassone, the Spanish Costa Brava as well as some interesting drives into the Pyrenees. As others have commented, make the drive through stunning scenery to Tapis in Spain for some great food and cheap wine
La Cougouilllade is located in lovely quiet location and the only suggestion we can make would be to provide fans in the bedrooms as the weather was particularly hot during our stay.
Another enjoyable summer holiday in the south of France.

LA COUGOUILLADE

A Dutch and Scottish family with 5 children from 3 to 13 years old had a great holiday in a fantastic house. We were surpised at how spacious and comfortable the house was.
We spent most of our time swimming and relaxing around the pool enjoying the lovely view although we would recommend the treetop adventure park if you have children.

Breakfast, lunch, BBQ's and dinners were enjoyed on the terrace. Stephen’s recommendation of the family restaurant in Tapis proved to be a hit as was the scenic drive to it.
It was a wonderful holiday and we will definitely be back. If we would have to do a suggestion it would be an extra fridge for the great local products and keeping the lovely wines chilled.

LA COUGOUILLADE

Everything about our experience was wonderful, from our initial contact with the owner, Stephen, to the house itself. The house is situated on a quiet road with stunning views to the mountains. The pool is fantastic and relaxing there in the evening with a glass of wine looking at the view was one of my favourite parts of the holiday. The house is so spacious that everyone had a favourite nook and cranny for some "me time".
The weather was mostly kind and on the one very rainy day we headed off to the art gallery in Ceret, a beautiful town with a lovely square and some nice restaurants. We managed trips to Barcelona and Carcasonne, both of which are approx two hours away. We also travelled 45 mins by car to Collioure, a beautiful seaside town. But my favourite trip was on the Yellow Train from Villefranche sur Conflent up to the Pyrenees, the views are breathtaking. Even though we packed a lot in during the two weeks, including three hillwalks, it was wonderful to return home to La Cougouillade. We will definitely return to this fabulous house and this gorgeous part of the world.

LA COUGOUILLADE IN JUNE.

  • 5 of 5
We spent a great fortnight in this beautiful old house, which has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere about it's cool spacious interior and mature gardens.

This house, for us, really brought together the best of a country house with all the modern necessities we have become used to.

I think, in another review, someone said " it was more like staying in someones home than a holiday rental "..........We agree 100%.

We found the location and ease of access an advantage as we took my 80 year old mother, who took the downstairs bedroom.

We found the property clean and comprehensively kitted out.
In fact the kitchen always seemed to contain what we were in need of.

The owner, Stephen, rang us and was very helpful, along with John the "pool man " who maintained the excellent pool..

The weather was quite warm during the first week with some enormous thunderstorms and associated high humidity......but even then the house offers a dry place underneath the wisteria to sit and watch the angry skies.

The temperature rose to around 30 degrees for the second week and we took advantage of the pool area which becomes an absolute sun trap......We found the contrast between sun and shade ideal and there is always an ideal spot to be found.

We would certainly recommend the propery and would not hesitate to book again.

Anita, David & Mother.
