Le Noyer (a traditional three bedroomed farmhouse) and Le Figuier (a two bed barn conversion) are situated in the same grounds as our our own home, Gue de Ray. The grounds span an acre of beautiful woodland gardens, private lawned areas and our pool. Situated in the countryside just north of Bourgueil, Chinon and Saumur it's a great place to unwind and relax or for the more energetic - a great place for french cycling holidays! Given its layout, Le Noyer is especially suited to young families on holiday with grandparents - the grandparents having the luxury of an ensuite bedroom! Le Figuier is ideal for couples or families with the added luxury of sharing our hot tub! Guests are welcome to share our swimming pool (9.5m x 4.9m x 1.5m), which is open between May and September. The Loire Valley is great for cycling holidays in France, either self catered or why not try one of our fully catered cycling holidays - ask for our website details.

Le Noyer is a spacious, three bed farmhouse with a huge living/dining area and fully fitted farmhouse kitchen (with fireplace). It is ideal for large families, families on holiday with grandparents or groups of friends! The family suite has separate double and twin bedrooms with family bathroom, with the other double bedroom having its own en-suite shower room. Outside there are extensive, private gardens and terrace with garden furniture and barbeque.

Le Noyer and Le Figuier are situated about 25km north of Saumur in the Loire Valley, on a the edge of a small, rural village. The village is surrounded by rolling countryside, forests, vineyards, lakes and the beautiful chateaux of the Loire region. Although small, the village has its own bakery, bar, restaurant, grocery store, post office and a weekly market. There is also a museum dedicated to the sculptor Jules Desbois, assistant to Rodin. Larger supermarkets are only 5kms away. Our nearest port is Caen which is a 3.5 hour journey by car. Cheaper ferry crossings are available Dover -Boulogne with a 5 hour car journey to the farmhouse. Tours airport is about 50 minutes away and Nantes about 2 hours. Tours & Nantes are both served by Ryanair, with flights from Stansted & Dublin (Tours) and East Midlands (Nantes). Car hire is available at all the airports mentioned.

Our holiday at Le Figuier, Guy de Ray can be simply described as total immersion in peace and tranquility.
The accommodation is set amongst the best scenery that the Loire can provide, a short drive or cycle from the nearest sleepy French town. Reflecting the simplicity of the region, the gite's interior is glorious with exposed beams and cosy sleeping and lounge areas. It has all the requirements of a self-catering holiday, including a very welcome dishwasher and range of DVDs/CDs - perfect for unwinding after a day's cycling.
Jon and Ali provided us with an exquisite welcome meal on our arrival - which we were both very thankful for after the drive from Calais. Our hosts were very accommodating throughout our visit - providing route maps and directions for local cycle routes, making excellent suggestions for excursions and where to buy the best wines. Jon even helped us to pump up our deflated bike tyres!
The region provided us with a great deal of entertainment as we enjoyed cycling around the wine region on flat, safe routes. We also visited several towns and chateaus - we only wish we had more than a week as we have so much left to see.
We would highly recommend Le Figuier to couples and families and we look forward to returning in the near future.

it says "fabulous" and it genuinely is that. furnishing and decoration is of a very high standard (not your typical french cottage!) and scrupulously clean.

The owners are exactly what you need - English, friendly, knowledgeable, and available. Their cooking (should you want to take advantage) is wonderful.

Le Noyer's situation in the heart of the Loire countryside was perfect for a relaxed get away. Enjoying breakfast in the morning sunshine was a great start to the day. The property was very clean and well mantained with an extensive DVD/video collection at your disposal. Ali and Jon were excellent hosts and very attentive to anything we needed or wanted to know about the local area etc. The meal they cooked for us on the first night was lovely and I would recommend The Pelican Restaurant in the nearby village of Vernantes. I would not hesitate in recommending this property to a friend.
