Superb value, great location - recommended!

My family and I (kids aged 15 and 13) spent 3 nights at this flat. It is superbly located on a relatively quiet street in a lively area of Paris. The flat is just around the corner from the Pompidou and is within walking distance of Notre Dame. The Chatelet Les Halles metro/RER station is nearby, which has connections to most parts of the city. The Gare du Nord is one stop away (taxi from GDN cost 17 Euros, it's 6.80 for 4 people on the RER). There are loads of shops (including three small supermarkets if you are self catering), bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood.
The building itself is very nice, relatively quiet and safe. The street is well lit and safe - it's a good neighbourhood.
The flat has a double room with an enormous, comfortable bed (if you like your bed on the firm side). Then there is a twin room with en suite batroom. The bathroom has a shower head but no wall attachment - but one can easily shower oneself down. The lounge has ample space given that it's a city centre flat. The sofa sits three in comfort. There is no dvd player, but we were able to find English language films on the tv when we needed them. There's a sofa bed here as well as a small dining table. Furnishings throughout the flat are tastefully done. We were in Paris in late October and it was warm in the flat.
The kitchen is small but well appointed. The oven is perhaps not up to "proper cooking" but it's fine for heating things up. There's a microwave and hob.
I see one reviewer complained about the noise - I think you have to be mindful that the flat is in an old building in the centre of Paris when considering noise. The street is partially pedestrianised and so gets very little traffic. We couldn't hear anything from the restaurants below. It's on the 4th floor of a 6 floor building so there can be noise in the stairwell and from above - but nothing too onerous. Take ear plugs and you will be fine if you're a light sleeper.
We looked at a number of flats on the website and we chose this one for its size, decor, location and price. We were not disappointed - given its superb location it is remarkably good value. It's an easy 4 Stars - a dvd player and wall attachment for the shower (small things really) would have made it a 5. Vanessa was a pleasure to deal with and is very relaxed and calm about paying the balance of the rent upon arrival. I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment for families, couples or small groups.
