I am an American who lived in Europe for 20 years until I returned to New England in 2001. In 1989, we purchased land in Portigliolo and built U Castellu in 1991. Now that I live in USA, I enjoy sharing my wonderful Corsican home with others through rentals. It still remains my family holiday home. I come here twice a year in Late Spring and Early Autumn.
We first visited Corsica in 1988 while living and working in London. I immediately fell in love with the island. During our first 2 weeks here, we searched for a villa to buy but soon realized we want to create OUR PLACE for our family and friends to enjoy. It was built with love for the island by local builders who appreciated that while we were strangers, we wanted a Corsican home; all materials are from the island including the grey-green granite fireplace.
It is a family home, custom built for our vacation enjoyment. It is comfortable home that is well-equipped for adults and children. The views across the Golfe d'Ajaccio are even more spectacular than any photo I have taken. They still take my breath away each time I return. Because I love the island and have lived in England and USA, it offers some items that other French villas might not.
Property is looked after by my French neighbor from Bordeaux who retired here a few years ago. They are fluent in English but also understand the culture of Corsica. They are not employees but caring neighbors who want my home well-cared for and my guests happy.
