Take your own picnic & stop off at one of the many beaches along the river, or pull in for a gourmet meal at a restaurant. For those of you feeling a bit more energetic, join a bike tour & see the leafy lanes & valleys. Hot air ballooning & micro-lighting flights can be organised locally for the more adventurous amongst you. There is a 'Tree Adventure Park' near by, which is a great place to go with a group of kids & adults alike. There are also the many local caves including Lascaux & Font de Gaume at les Eyzies with their Prehistoric paintings for you to visit. Sarlat itself offers many free attractions, especially during the summer, including fireework displays, street theatre, acrobats, musicians, art exhibitions & concerts. Not to be missed are the towns & villages of Domme, Rocamadour, Sarlat & Montignac with the famous Lascaux cave paintings.

BEYNAC HISTORY: L'ancienne Poste is set on the banks of the gently flowing Dordogne river overlooking 4 chateaux & one of the historic sites of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) between England & France. The stunningly romantic village of Beynac, which rises dramatically from the valley floor & which was once the home of Richard the Lionheart, will enchant & captivate you at every turn, from its narrow medieval streets lined with soft honey coloured stone houses, shops, art galleries & restaurants to its magnificent Chateau, perched high on top the cliff, which has majestically watched over the Dordogne valley since 1150. You may already be familiar with Beynac and the surrounding area from watching such films as 'Chocolat', 'Joan of Arc', 'The Musketeer' and 'Timeline'.

I also have the details on a couple of other similar homes in the area, so if this does not suit I can forward on the details of the other houses, both have large 10x5m pools and can accommodate between 4-10 guests. Both are very reasonably priced for the facilities offered and within 5 minutes of Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, Roque Gageac and the Dordogne river.

Please note that as we have 3 houses with the same or similar facilities all within the same Sarlat and Beynac area, our availability calendar shows when all of our houses are reserved, so if a date is shown as available we do have 1, 2 or all 3 of our houses available for that date.

About Xanthe Eadie

We moved to France with our children 15 years ago and have lived & worked in the hospitality industry in the Sarlat area since then. We ran our own small hotel & restaurant in Beynac for 6 years and are proud to tell you that we were listed in many International guide books, including Rick Steves, Alistair Sawdays and the Guide du Routard. We sold this business in the summer of 2006, and after listening to the needs of our restaurant and hotel guests we started our holiday rental home business. We now have 3 wonderful vacation rental houses in prime locations in central Sarlat & Beynac which are available to rent all year round. As we live locally, we are your first point of contact if you need help with anything, you will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area. You will find that each of our houses can offer you the very best in location, amenities & comfort, whether you are over looking the Dordogne river & 4 Chateaux or strolling through the Medieval streets of Sarlat. Be assured that we are responsive to our guests needs; many of whom come back year after year & have become firm friends, they are more than happy to recommend us to their family & friends. We will offer you the best service that we possibly can to ensure that your holiday is a memorable one for all the right reasons!!

Why Xanthe Eadie chose Sarlat la Caneda

Because it is magnificent !

Location, Location, Location.

Need I say more...............why rent somewhere & have to drive everywhere when you can walk!

What makes this house unique

We have three beautiful holiday homes, one in central Sarlat, one in central Beynac (wonderful house which over looks 4 Chateaux and the Dordogne river!) and a brand new to the holiday rental market after a 150,000 Euros refurb is our 16th century Maison Bourgeois with heated salt water pool, which is located just 2 miles from the centre of Sarlat in a tranquil bucolic setting.

Both our Sarlat and Beynac homes have been our own family home since we moved to France 14 years ago and we now offer them for others to enjoy. All three houses are private and you will have sole use of the house, garden and pool, they all have their own off road private parking and ensuite bedrooms. As we now live only 5 minutes drive from both Sarlat and Beynac we are on hand for any queries that you may have during your stay so you can be assured of the best of care & assistance if needed.

The Sarlat & Beynac houses are within a 2-5 minute easy level stroll of restaurants, cafes and wonderful boulangeries selling the best croissants and baguettes. There are Farmers Food Markets each day of the week in the surrounding towns and villages and a twice weekly street market in Sarlat which also has a daily covered market by the main Square. Here you will find the local farmers selling their freshly harvested produce, including organic bread, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and creams. During the summer months there is a daily variety of street entertainment in Sarlat which is free to watch and sometimes participate in ! Our new holiday home is within walking distance of a bar & restaurant with twice weekly live music during July and August and is only a 2 minute car journey into bustling Sarlat.

Please enquire for details and photos of our other houses using the 'contact the owner' tab for this house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I travelled from Armenia to Benyac to reunite with our daughter’s who travelled from different parts of the world to be with us. We had a wonderful week long stay in this house that was very comfortable, welcoming and tastefully furnished. With the bedrooms on three different levels we were able to spread out and each was fitted with its own bathroom and toilet – which was great as young women need to do a lot of personal grooming! We spent a lot of time cooking, eating and talking as we sat around the wood fire which was really delightful. It was the first week in January when we stayed in the house and the weather was not to cold with even a few sunny days after frosty mornings. The Benyac village was very quite with only a few shops and restaurants open. This suited us just fine – but we needed to remember to stock up on groceries in the morning before the supermarket closed. We did some peaceful walks along the river and around the village and castle located on the cliff top. I loved sitting on the bench underneath the window and looking out at the river as the water flowed down stream. The photos on the web page of the house and village do not lie! It all lives up to expectations

The perfect holiday -- in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Hi Xanthe and Hamish,

Just to let you know that we arrived home back in the States safely -- and still happily thinking about our stay in Beynac and L'ancienne Poste. It was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the great views ("to die for" is an understatement) plus all the history and, of course, the charming small village flavor. The property was immaculate, bright and sunny, and everything we could have hoped for. The chateau, the river below, plus the proximity to Sarlat and the charming countryside of Dordogne made for the perfect holiday. We especially loved the local markets, the friendly people, and we thank you so much for sharing all of it with us. We will be back.

Owner's Response: It is so lovely to hear that our guests enjoyed this house, as this really is a wonderful place, the house, the village, the views, in fact just about everything is 'as hoped for' just as Arnold has said !!!! We should know we lived in L'ancienne Poste for 5 years !!!!

Beautiful home, amazing views-you will love it!

The house is beautiful, clean and tidy and exactly as described and shown in the photos. Actually, it is even better than the photos! All of the amenities are there for you. The owners were very responsive and the booking process was easy. The rental rate was an amazing value. The location is wonderful as well. After walking all around Beynac, I believe that it has the best location. What a pleasure to sit on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful castle views.

You can not go wrong renting this property. We can't wait to go back.

Heaven in Beynac!

What an amazing home! We had 2 couples staying in the house for a week and it was beyond our expectations. We could have never left - having pasteries on the patio every morning and wine, cheese and pate each evening. Great location for seeing the area and plenty to see in walking distance. Xanthe and Hamish are wonderful!

The pictures looked amazing on the web but when we opened the gates it totally took our breath away. There is nothing negative I can say about the house or it's location. There were two couples so didn't use the bottom bedroom. The kitchen had everything you needed and best of all a gas hob! We hired a small Peugeot 205 and were glad to be able to use the garage. The other couple had hired a larger car so used the car park below using the pass provided by the owners. We didn't venture far at first as everything is there that you need. We did the canoe trip from Vitrac, about 15km, very enjoyable. They pick you up at Beynac in a van and transport you up stream so you can paddle down at leisure. We also used Beynacs local balloon company, Montgolfier. Again, just a short walk down from the house, they pick you up and away you go. The walk up to the Chateau is a must. The views from up there are amazing. la Petit Tonnelle was our favourite restaurant. For four of us with 3 bottles of wine and three courses cost €200. We had wonderful sunshine all week so a jump in pool, although bracing was welcome. When we go on holiday we always hire a private holiday home, normally one away from towns and such and have so far never picked a "dud". However, this place is so special and my fear is that every other holiday home we find will pale in comparison now. Treat yourself and stay at Lancienne De Poste.

Fantastic house with magnificent views.

I stayed with my family and friends in this wonderful house for seven nights and loved every minute of it. The pictures were exactly right, but seeing the house, in person, was so much better. The first night we sat outside on the patio overlooking the Dordogne River with glasses of wine and congratulated ourselves for being so smart to choose this house. The Village of Beynac with its castle, church, shops and restaurants, was charming and had much to offer. We toured the surrounding areas every day in our car, visiting wonderful villages, caves, bastides, fois gras wholesalers, eating at wonderful restaurants and finding great wines - all within a 30 minute drive of Beynac. This was a perfect place to use as our base and we looked forward to returning home each evening. With the fully equipped kitchen, we were able to tour all day and come home to make dinner from the great food we found at the markets. The WIFI worked great and we really appreciated the BBC TV and radio channels for catching up.

I shall hopefully be able to return one day, but will certainly be telling my friends about this lovely home in Beynac.

L-ancienne Poste--home on the Dorgogne

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to the Dordogne, France, and from a stay at "L'ancienne Poste" in Beybac over looking the Dordogne River and the valley. The listing had descriptions and pictures that were very enticing--but our stay exceeded our high expectations. My wife and I traveled with two other couples and the accommodations for six people were exceptional. The three en-white bedrooms were well furnished and very comfortable, and all had views toward the valley and river. The home had a well equipped kitchen and we were able to prepare meals easily. The front patio is a great gathering place for evening wine and conversation, and had beautiful views over the river--even better that the pictures suggested. The village is small, but had good restaurants and pastry shops. The Chateaux Beynac is a short (but steep) walk--well worth the effort. We highly recommend L'ancienne Poste in Beynac.
