$1997/month main house; $800/month guest house (VRBO#592969).
The property is situated in Centro and it takes between 10- 15 min. to walk to the heart of town. All of my guests have enjoyed the walk down as it's fascinating to meander on the many and different, small, winding streets while appreciating the flowers cascading from terraces and balconies. Many guests also look forward to the aerobic exercise coming home! However, it’s easy to catch a $2.50 taxi for a 5 minute ride in either direction.
PLEASE READ 'TRAVELER REVIEWS' on the link above as that will give you a good idea of what other guests have felt about both houses and their visit in general. They say far more than I ever could!
Experience luxury and privacy in one of the most beautiful gardens in San Miguel. Both the casita and the main house are within a walled and secure complex and there is a good deal of separation between the two homes.
The main house is a truly a “home” with many exceptional features …. it has sophistication and charm, but is also warm and cozy due to the unique bamboo and wood beam ceilings, warm terracotta walls and polished tile floors. It has one very large master bedroom with fire place as well as a combination den/bedroom. There is a very large bathroom upstairs and a half bath downstairs.
The first floor is an open floor plan with a lipstick red kitchen which looks out onto the garden and the casita in the distance. There is a dining room/living room combination and a half bath. Naturally, the fireplace is the focal point especially on nippy evenings.
Upstairs the master bedroom is amazingly large with fireplace and again the high ceilings with the bamboo and wood beams which make it cozy as well as elegant. The custom-made queen size bed with its delicious pillow-top mattress guarantees a good night’s sleep. The den/bedroom with a twin bed is just off the large dressing room from the master bedroom.
The adjoining bathroom is quite a luxury due to its large size, beautiful tile work and the fact that there is a lot of natural light from a window looking out onto the garden. It includes both a shower and extra long bath. Women certainly appreciate and take notice when they see it ...we ladies like light and this bathroom has it as well as lots of counter and drawer space. Off the dressing area, there is an office/bed combination for an additional guest or child. The room is full of brilliant colors and overlooks the garden and fountain. Going outside from this room there is a washer/dryer. From that point, there are stairs leading to the crow’s nest terrace with a spectacular view of the Paroquia, city and surrounding countryside.
The casita is charming! It has an open floor plan which echoes the main house in design and décor. Warm terracotta walls and polished tile floors coupled with a most comfortable queen-size bed with pillow-top mattress, mini-kitchen, a beautifully tiled bath with shower, living area, dining nook, and a lovely view of the fountain and garden.
For both properties there is high speed wireless internet. Most of my guests have downloaded skype and can sit outside under the shade of the outdoor sala/living room while listening to the fountain, catching up on emails and having chats with friends at home.
Cable television is available in both homes and there are many movies with Spanish sub-titles (a great way to practice Spanish!) as well as American news stations, Discovery, etc. Plus the Main house has a DVD and C.D. player with many C.D's and some DVD's.
From both homes one enjoys the antique cantara stone fountain, lush lawn, flowering garden and vine covered high walls which surround the property. Each has its own front porch which face the lovely and most comfortable outside sala.
The outdoor living room (sala) has a dining area, and comfortable cushioned sofa and table and chairs. This is the perfect place for using your lap-top or simply reading while listening to the fountain. A charcoal barbecue makes it the ideal spot for entertaining and eating outdoors. Above the sala is a very large roof-top garden with a large table with umbrella for morning coffee or watching the sunset in the evenings.
The wonderful housekeeper and gardener live right across the street and keep an eagle's eye on the property. She cleans twice a week and deals with water, trash and oversees all other details. For a small, additional fee she would do your personal laundry when you wish. Her husband is a talented gardener who treats the garden as his own. Their weekly work hours are included in the rent, but if you wished to have them for more time, I could make arrangements with them.
There is off-street parking for one large vehicle behind the walls for you or for your friends and additional space in front of the house.
Please there is no smoking inside either home.
It's a lush, fragrant year round retreat.

I would like to share a bit about myself in relationship to my home. I had been a frequent visitor to San Miguel and each time I returned, I felt more and more drawn to the town and the people. Finally, I decided to rent for a year and decide if I wanted to make a move and experience a dramatic change of life style.
Like you, I found this property on VRBO and I rented it for a year, but since it was sight unseen, I had great trepidation as I approached the entrance. However, once I unlocked the door I knew that the only way I would ever move from this house was being carried out feet first!!!! Thankfully, the former owners decided to sell and I've been happy there ever since. Normally, I rent out the casita while I live in the main house, but now and then I'm required to return to my other beautiful town of Carmel, California and then I rent out my main house as well.
I never like my home to be vacant because I think it is such a gracious and beautiful spot that I want to share it with others. If it's not rented, I invite my close friends as my guests for a couple weeks vacation.
I have found that over the years, I have met the most wonderful guests and many of them have become dear friends. I consider myself a very fortunate lady for having taken the risk and made the move to San Miguel de Allende! It's been an ongoing adventure! I hope you will also be a guest and enjoy it as I have.
Sabrina O'Jack purchased this house in 2007
Sadly, we are back to reality!! We had the most wonderful time in SMA. Your home is truly an oasis. We walked to town everyday, explored, enjoyed lunch and returned every afternoon to your beautiful garden retreat. We only ate dinner out a few times preferring to stay at home and relax. Yours is a difficult place to leave! We had beautiful weather and all of your helpful hints made this a truly spectacular vacation. Thank you so much. Again, our sincerest thanks.
My husband and I just returned from San Miguel. What a joyous vacation this was. This was the first time we have ever rented a house. I must admit we were a little nervous. But after talking to the owner Sabrina, our fears were erased. This was the best experience ever! The house is gorgeous! The grounds are beautiful with so many flowers! The patio's have such wonderful views. Sitting at the crow's nest, you can see the entire city. A great place for coffee in the morning. The bed is so comfy cozy to sleep in. Sabrina is a wonderful host who shares restaurant information, places to see, history, etc. She is a wealth of information and my new best friend. :) The house is clean, beautifully decorated, and if you're like me...you'll love all the beautiful tile work. There are so many pretty details inside the house. If you want the experience of living in the neighborhood and not staying in a hotel, I would recommend this beautiful, private, house in a heartbeat. It has so much charm. You get a feel for the neighborhood, even fireworks going off, celebrating the fact that it's Thursday night or Uncle Benny's birthday. Doesn't matter, there's always a celebration in San Miguel. It's all part of the charm. I was so glad we choose this house because I think being away from town (only a 15 minute walk) it was less noisy, you didn't hear the church bells ringing all the time, and less traffic. Easy to grab a taxi out front, on the street. All these specifics listed above, made this the perfect vacation house for us. We will surely come back to this Magical Garden House. Thank you Sabrina, Luz and Gregario for making our stay so perfect.
The Magical Garden House was the perfect choice for a first visit to San Miguel with our 13-year old son. I love color and Mexican folk art, and this place has it in spades! The property includes a two-story, 2-bedroom home on one side of the garden, and "The Casita" - a studio apartment - on the other side. We rented only the two-story house, which has the living/dining/kitchen spaces and a powder room on the main floor, and an elegant curved wooden stair leading to the two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry facilities on the second floor. There are large, handsome built-in cabinets in which to store your belongings, and the entire wall facing the garden has operable windows to let in fresh air and the delightful frog and cricket sounds (and the occasional rooster) of uphill San Miguel!
The furnishings are cozy and comfortable and the beds and bedding are too. The huge bathroom upstairs is a work of art with its colorful hand-painted tile work and I especially enjoyed soaking in the deep tiled bathtub. The central garden is amazing, and features table and chair seating areas adjacent to the kitchen, a large covered seating area facing the garden and another umbrella table and chairs on the roof of the covered seating area. From the second story of the main house you access the Crow's Next -- which boasts a territorial view of San Miguel and the surrounding mountains. It is breathtaking and truly the cherry on the top of this charming house.
The location is very secure on a quiet street with a keyed metal door from the street into the garden. If that wasn't enough, the property is watched over by a lovely Virgin of Guadalupe wall mural across the street! Not once at the property or out and about in San Miguel were we concerned for the safety of ourselves or our belongings. It is an ambitious yet delightful 15-minute walk down hill to the center of town along rustic cobblestone or stone block streets. Everyone in San Miguel -- including the locals -- wear sturdy athletic or walking shoes. Keens would be perfect. Although we did walk back up the hill a few times, we more often opted to jump into one of the many green taxis which are prevalent in town and pip up the hill for the equivalent of about US$2.50. Can't beat that!!
There are many restaurants down the hill, as well as fresh tortillas, rotisserie chicken and other delights on your way to the Mercado des Artisanias. Don't miss the street tacos near the main square at night!
My sister and I just came back from a two-week stay at this gorgeous house; the minute we entered the house, we went, ho, wow, ah, of excitement and admiration. We were totally in love with the decoration, the atmosphere of serenity, the calm away from the noise of downtown city. Each morning, we went up to the roof terrace to watch the sunrise and again at night after dinner with a glass of wine, we went back up there to watch San Miguel at our feet and the very near sky and its moon and stars. Absolutely heaven on earth. And the songs of the birds and the flowers, oh la la, what a pleasure. It was so easy to deal with Sabrina, such a wonderful and friendly woman. We were greeted with fresh flowers in the living room and in the bedroom and a big plate of fruits in the kitchen, what a nice touch. And Luz, the housekeeper and Gregorio, the gardener, were helpful in everyway and so nice. Guillermo, the property manager, went out of his way to supply a new bed and the bedlining just before our arrival. The hill going down to the center is ok but going up is another story, so we took a cab each time to return to the house ($2.50). Of course, if you visit San Miguel, you have to be ready to accept the mexican joy of life and its numerous fiestas and part of these fiestas are the famous firecrackers "cohetes" at any time of the day and mostly at night, but during our 2 weeks, that happened 2 nights, if that bothers you, try to chose some periods of the year to avoid too many mexican celebrations, (check on the calendar) unless that’s what you’re looking for, which in some aspects make it very interesting. Hasta la vista and gracias again to Sabrina, Luz and Gregorio and Guillermo.
Such a wonderful place to go to escape the cold winters. Before coming the owner, Sabrina, was so helpful on giving advice as to what to expect, transfers from the airport, places to exchange currency, etc.. Something that usually doesn't happen when staying in a hotel. Her garden is so beautiful and her housekeeper and gardener so sweet and helpful. Only wish we knew more Spanish so that we could communicate more easily. We stayed in the little casita and found it very pleasant for 2 people. It is decorated very nicely and kept in good condition as seen in the photographs. Everything was clean when we arrived and once a week the cleaning lady comes and changes bedding and cleans. We have also had a chance to view the main house and it is also nice and clean and so nicely decorated. Heaters are also provided in both the main house and the casita. If you decide to stay here, I'm sure you will enjoy!
I have had the privilege of staying in both the main house and casita during my six month stay here in San Miguel, and the house, garden, and location have been nothing less than outstanding. This is a gem and jewel here in San Miguel, and it is evident as soon as you walk through the metal doors and into the magical and mystical garden-it is a masterpiece. Both homes offer luxury comfort, San Miguel Mexican charm, and all the necessities of home. The ad and photos are accurate and describe the property beautifully. The main house has two fireplaces, a spacious office area, full kitchen, and a crow´s nest with a view of SMA that is better than any other I have seen-I could even hear the signing from celebrations in the Jardin on Independence Day. The casita offers ample cooking space, a spacious bathroom, and a comfortable four-post bed. It actually has the best view of the garden as it is situated right in it and across from the fountain and outdoor sala with a shared second level terrace. During my stay here, I lacked for nothing as the property is cared for by a local gardener and housekeeper who were always vigilant and mindful of me, the house, and the security and well-being of the location. The homeowner is a truly lovely and generous woman whom I have come to adore as well. And, San Miguel de Allende offers much to do and see-I particularly enjoyed watching all of the amazing people in el Centro, walking through the art galleries at Fabrica Aurora, dining at truly fine restaurants such as Tio Lucas and Pegaso, and soaking in natural hot springs called La Gruta or walking through the botanical garden. The house is situated on a hill and one can easily access the bus route at the bottom of the hill, take a taxi, or walk only 15 minutes to the Centro. I have no reservations about recommending this property as it has been such an amazing home away from home.
We spent some extended time in this casita during the month of February.
It was our lovely, private home away from home.
Convenient to the Centro and with a spectacular view from the roof garden a delight in San Miguel. With a little grocery a few steps down the hill we were able to have the comforts of home and be in easy reach of all that the city has to offer.
The garden and seating area on the terrace made a wonderful spot for an afternoon glass of wine or cup of tea. It was also private and quiet during the night.
Sabrina O’Jack is a gracious host, and the main house, with enchanting fireplace, luxurious master bedroom and bath would make a stay here pure magic.
A lovely place to stay.
