What A Shame
Review Submitted: October 8, 2009
Date of Stay: August 2009
The villa itself is lovely but was covered in ants during our stay - even in the bedrooms. The pool is no good for young children as only about 10% of it is 'shallow' end (1.3m deep) then there is a steep and very slippery slope towards the rest of the pool which is well over 7ft deep so it is no good for children that are not strong swimmers. Lorries crashed and banged past the villa at around 5.30 -6am every morning to deliver water to the farm that is directly behind it and the refuse lorry arrives late at night to empty the communal bin.
All in all , not the peaceful and relaxing break we were hoping for.
Owner's Response: Such a shame that after many years of renting our villa we have received our first complaint! Unfortunately during "Disgruntled's" stay, due the exceptionally hot weather, there was a water shortage for a couple of days necessitating in water being delivered by tanker to the holding tank on land behind the property - the alternative was no water in the area and was completely out of our control. Throughout Menorca and indeed the majority of Mediterranean countries, during the height of the tourist season refuse is collected on a nightly basis from the communal bins situated in the streets, usually around 10pm. As regards the swimming pool, it is advertised as such and not a paddling pool. About a third of it is shallower before sloping gently. It is tiled in exactly the same manner as any other pool and quite clearly visible in photos. I do ask many times for potential clients to contact me direct if they have any queries whatsoever prior to making their booking and if "Disgruntled" was concerned about this I would have hoped to be contacted and could have clarified this in order that she could look for somewhere more suited to her requirements. Many, many families with young children have stayed and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would hope that any children unable to swim were supervised at all times around the pool and wore armbands no matter what the depth. As regards the ants, again this is a common problem throughout the island during the Summer, simply resolved by keeping floors clean and not leaving leftover food, sticky sweets etc. lying around or in open bins. Ant spray is provided in the villa and there are many alternative products available in the shops. Information and advice to this effect is provided in the villa. Once again, very disappointed to receive this review after the many positive comments on the questionnaires sent to guests after their stay. I can only hope its nature is due more to the lack of a substantial refund than anything else. I would encourage anyone considering renting the villa to contact me direct. I am always happy to speak to them personally and discuss requirements/answer any questions/provide additional photographs prior to them making a decision.
