2 bedroomed, 2 bathroomed apartment in tranquil setting

This modern two bedroomed, two bathroomed apartment is situated in the centre of this delightful village; opposite a beautiful 16th century church with a cobbled courtyard adorned by leafy palm trees.

A large bright and airy south facing lounge/dining room opens onto a spacious balcony; enjoying fantastic ocean views. There are two further balconies; one smaller balcony off the master bedroom and a third large open balcony off the kitchen to the rear of the property. A delightful breakfast spot with majestic views up the valley. This particular balcony is very spacious; perfect for peaceful dining and escape from the heat of the sun at the end of the day. The apartment is well equipped with all mod cons to accommodate those that wish to cater for themselves, however three local restaurants and several bars within easy walking distance offer an excellent selection of local fare, traditional dishes and numerous Maderian beverages not to mention a very warm and individual welcome. The Praia Mar restaurant is right on your doorstep and will delight fish lovers with excellent fish dishes; good food at great value.

The apartment is located on the second floor of a three story apartment building. The building is a small apartment block with only seven apartments (four on the second floor and three on the third floor). The atmosphere is tranquil, friendly and warm. Due to the building being so small and the other owners only holidaying through the year at different times the apartment enjoys peace and quiet all year round.

There is parking to the front of the building and both a stairs and a lift access to the apartment making this a suitable environment for all ages and capabilities.

The surrounding grounds are mainly bananas including numerous trails through the bananas along the levadas (water ways), ideal for a morning stroll. A small lawned garden with fruit trees lies to the back of the property.

The village also enjoys a flat 2 km sea front walk ending in a paved promenade; a local bar awaits you at the end where you can relax in peace with a cold drink and spectacular ocean views.

The local people are very friendly and love to meet visitors. You are sure to receive many warm welcomes in this rural village.

Madalena Do Mar is one of the few traditional villages that has everything to offer. The sea and mountain views are simply majestic. A little piece of heaven awaits you.

About The Owner

We are an English couple that have holidayed in Madeira for many years. Prior to buying our apartment we holidayed in numerous self catering apartments and while they were all very nice non of them were perfect. Our decision to buy our property was because we were looking for somewhere that we could spend quality time in a rual village location. We wanted sea views, walking and nature on our door step. Our apartment offers all of this.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2006
Why The Owner chose Ponto do Sol

We fell in love with our apartment at first sight. The lounge area is big, open and bright not typical of places where we have previously stayed. We really enjoy having two bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equiped and the rear balcony is a lovely dining spot. The beautiful panoramic ocean views are fantastic. We find the whole ambience of the ocean so calming. The apartment is a wonderful place to relax and recharge after a day of exploring; just like home.

What makes this apartment unique

The sea is right on our doorstep as are our favorite levada walks. We enjoy the local people; they are warm and generous. The village is very pretty and typical of rural Madeira.

We also like to eat out locally so we don't have to drive. There are three great restaurants within a few minutes walk plus an open air rustic restaurant where they serve traditional bbq meat and local bread; when we want to relax we order these delicious madeiran dishes to take away and we enjoy them in the apartment on the balcony. Absolute heaven.

This well appointed, large, modern apartment is situated in a tranquil village within a few minutes walk to a pebble beach front. Local restaurants and bars are also within a few minutes walk; one of which is a superb fish restaurant, right on your doorstep. Tourist attractions: levada walking; sightseeing; caves; rock pools and mountains are all within a short drive away. The perfect base to explore Madeira. Great for families, couples and friends. Lots to do and see! A wonderful location to enjoy Madeira but also a wonderful location to holiday in. Enjoy the locals and get to know rural village life. The real Madeira.

    The rate of 40/42 british pounds per night is based on two people sharing.

We really loved this apartment. Very comfortable,spotlessly clean and what a view! We thought the little restaurant below the apartment was great too - in fact it was here that we found out about the apartment. We only had four days here which we taged onto a week in Funchal where we experienced cloud every afternoon. We thought the two brothers who ran the restaurant were joking when they told us that the sun always shone in Madaçena do Mar but they were right. We had wall to wall sunshine.

What a wonderful holiday! Great to find a spotlessly clean, really well equipped and comfortable apartment with the most wonderful views over the ocean from the front balcony and lounge. Found Madalena do Mar to be a lovely, peaceful village with three restaurants within a five minute walk plus a "bread van" selling local breads, freshly roasted chicken and other Madeiran snacks plus beer which you can sit and drink while you wait. We also found other local bars including Senhora Maria's down on the front where it became a routine to relax with a beer in the afternoon just watching the sun sparkling on the waves. Best walk; Ponta do Pargo on page 152 in the walking guide on the bookshelf. Best tip; ask Sarah when booking to supply a "get started" food box which gave us all we needed to start the holiday without immediately having to go shopping which we then did at our leisure the next day. Best thing about the village; the tranquility. In fact, liked it so much we're already arranging to go back later in the year... which is a first
