Located in an exclusive area of Hilo, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is nestled in a tropical river setting on a nearly-one-acre estate. A crystal-clear river meanders through the property year 'round, and is complemented by a carpet-like lawn, majestic trees and beautiful blooms.
The Hide-Away is a separate spacious unit on the first floor of this fine example of a 1948-vintage, traditional 'plantation-style' Hilo home. Your hosts, Glenn and Mozella, welcome you to their home, and will be just upstairs and will be available for your questions. There is a completely separate entrance and patio area for your privacy. Your living room, tastefully appointed in a tropical motif, is a warm and inviting space. The fully equipped kitchen includes a full size refrigerator and full size electric range/oven. There are some wonderful local restaurants just down the hill to enjoy.
Dine to the sweet sound of the gentle rapids, whether you are inside or out. An entertainment center with cable TV, VCR and DVD players is there for you, with a stereo that plays tapes and CDs. Wireless and cable RoadRunner high-speed Internet services are also provided.
Enjoy your own private lanai, with a barbecue, patio furnishings and loungers, for dining out by the river or just soaking up some sun! The house sits at 800 feet elevation, above flood and hurricane zones.
The bedroom features a king bed and lots of nicely-crafted built-ins. We provide luxury hotel linens as well as a hypoallergenic alternative down pillow-top. There is also a full laundry for your use.
Because of insurance liability, at this time, the Riverhouse Hide-Away is for adult guests only. The Hide-Away is a Strictly Non-Smoking Retreat.
Right in town, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is only minutes away from beautiful beach parks and everything Hilo has to offer. Theaters, UH-Hilo, Imiloa Astronomy Center, restaurants, surfing, kayak rentals, an amazing Farmer's Market, museums, guided walks, and much more, are just a few of these offers!

We are residents of the Big Island, having moved from Texas in April 2012. We love our new home, city, and state. We can't wait to share them all with you!
Mozela Dundas purchased this apartment in 2011
The moment we saw and felt the peaceful beautiful river flowing in the backyard of the RiverHouse, we were hooked!
Certainly the most unique feature of the RiverHouse is our pure spring river. A spectacular vintage house with modern appointments and great views just up the hill from downtown Hilo and local beaches, 30 minute drive to the volcano, a little longer drive to some of the most unusual beaches in the world--what more could a Hilo vacactioner want?
We had a great time at the River House. The river is so relaxing and it is close to everything on the east side of the island. Lots of room and everything provided. Very accomodating and yet unobtrusive owners. We were careful to not leave any food or spills so had no problem with critters. Would stay again for sure.
What a beautiful property. The river running over the lava and landscaping was breathtaking. The apartment was exactly as advertised and just right for us. A good location from which to tour volcanoes, waterfalls and lush rain forest.
The accommodations were very nice and the property was beautiful! Even with the drought Hilo is having the creek was running and sounded wonderful. Listening to the tree frogs at night and the birds during the day was magical...
Great place. Very reasonable price. Beautiful grounds. Very nice owners. We'll be staying there again on our next visit to the Big Island. Only thing missing were spices in the kitchen. Bring your own.
My wife and I went to the Big Island to see our daughter, who goes to UH Hilo. We found this house after searching several rental sites. The house was as described on the website. The house has a beautiful yard with multiple tropical plants and the river going right through yard. Can't say more about yard and surroundings. It is beautiful. The house itself is very nice and roomie for two or even three people. The King size bed is very comfortable and there is plenty of drawers and closet space for your packed clothing. TV and Internet work well and kitchen has all you need for making food or baking. What we didn't have Mozela gave to us to use. The house is about 7 minutes from downtown Hilo so close to town and other activities. If there is anything to say against the house it would be that the shower is small, but it works just fine but we were used to a bigger one. And when our daughter stayed with us for a couple days she slept on the futon couch/bed and found one side of the bed to be bumpy and a bit uncomfortable. But again it worked fine and would not be any reason not to stay. If we had it to do again we would defineatly stay here again. We have stayed and many VRBO rentals before and this was one of the best. And the hosts are delightful, very helpful hosts.
