Weddings: Over the last few years La Paloma has become very popular as a wedding venue or as a place for family and friends to stay whilst attending a wedding on the Island. The secluded tropical garden is a wonderful place to hold the ceremony, with the sound of the gently lapping waves just the other side of the trees. The sitting room/veranda and dining room are spacious and can host a reception or family gathering. All our guests who have used La Paloma as a base for their wedding have said how the location and staff have helped to make their special day even more memorable.
Cars and transport: A car is not essential, if you are feeling adventurous the buses run frequently, are cheap and a definite Barbados experience.! There is a a basic supermarket 5 minutes walk down the road. Both the nearby supermarket and the better stocked one in Holetown will deliver to the house. However if you hire a car you will not only be able to do the shopping more easily but you will then be able to tour the island, visit the historical sites and discovery fabulous beaches on the other side of the island.
The car is best booked in advance especially at busy times of year e.g. Christmas. The car can either be delivered to the house or the car hire company will meet you at the airport with the car.
There is off street parking for up to 4 cars.
It is also easy to organise taxis at any time of the day or night.
Golf: The world famous Sandy Lane golf course is a short drive away. There are several other golf courses on the Island with a wide range of fees
We have just come back from two weeks staying at La Paloma and I have to say it was the most heavenly two weeks imaginable. Situated on the beautiful West Coast of Barbados, we only had to open the back gate from the garden to walk out onto the beach, from where we would swim or snorkel daily. We encountered the beautiful turtles most days without having to go on a boat cruise - they are literally swimming around outside the back garden! The large, well appointed house is beautiful, and kept lovely and clean by the staff, who will tidy your rooms and provide clean towels daily. The house can accommodate 5 couples, although the rooms are not all of the same size, and not all have a view overlooking the ocean. The staff are great and will do as much or as little for you as you would like. Ruth cooks beautiful Bajan dishes on request, so you really don't need to go out to many of the superb restaurants nearby, as you can have great home-cooked food prepared for you and served on the balcony. And what a balcony it is too; in fact this is the piece de resistance of the whole house - a beautiful large balcony overlooking the ocean with sofas, a dining table and hammocks from which to watch the beautiful sunsets and spot the turtles and frigate birds as they go by. The house is value for the balcony alone, but there is also a fantastic games room with pool table and mini football along with a TV & DVD, though to be honest we didn't spend much time in it as it would have eaten into our time on the beach, in the garden on loungers by the small pool, or just relaxing and drinking cocktails on the balcony. We couldn't fault La Paloma and are already making plans to come back next year for our next slice of Paradise.
La Paloma is a beautiful, stylish, tastefully decorated home in a stunning location on the West coast of Barbados, as close to the sea as you can be without getting your feet wet.
A gate leads from the pretty, secluded, private garden to the beach. Alternatively venture no further than the plunge pool and sun loungers in the garden.
Days at La Paloma centre around the very large verandah at first floor level with its stunning views of the sea and the sunset. This leads directly through the high ceilinged dining hall to the kitchen beyond.
The kitchen looks over the main west coast road ( still only just wide enough for a vehicle in each direction) and those familiar with Barbados will know that this can be a busy road. However, at the back of the house, in the three main bedrooms, on the verandah or in the garden one is quite unaware of the proximity of the road.
All the bedrooms are beautifully and individually decorated with very good quality bed linen. This is a house, not an hotel, so the rooms vary in size. The smallest room might be best suited to children or a single adult, although when configured as a double bed it is extremely comfortable.
The house is well equipped and beautifully furnished with a mixture of antique and modern furniture and artefacts.
The staff look after the house and the guests discretely and efficiently. Ruth, the cook, prepares lovely meals which can be served formally or informally as you prefer.
The location of the house enables easy access to Bridgetown and all that the west coast has to offer in the way of restaurants, hotels and shopping. The small local supermarket, just 2 minute's walk away is a bonus.
I have stayed at this house on several occasions with groups of friends, all of whom have absolutely loved the house, garden and location and cannot wait to return.
We stayed at this property as guests of the owners but this review is purely my own.
This is a truly beautiful home. You will probably want to spend much of your time sitting comfortably on the large terrace/balcony which overlooks the Caribbean sea. From here you can watch yachts of all shapes and sizes sail by. The balcony remains cool and shaded all day and provides a perfect view of the spectacular sunsets.
The swimming pool with sun beds on the decking is just below and you can stroll out of the garden onto the beach for a swim in the sea.
We were looked after by the 4 excellent staff. They cooked us amazing meals, and also kept the house spotlessly clean and the garden looking fabulous.
Some of the bedrooms overlook the road at the front of the house but we weren’t actually bothered by the traffic. In fact, I haven’t slept so well in years (particular mention of the gorgeous pillows). The bedrooms are air conditioned so you can keep cool at night.
My family and I, along with friends had a wonderful stay at La Paloma. We had 9 adults and 4 kids under the age of 5 yrs old.
What a FANTASTIC week of what I call a "TRUE Vacation!"
The house is very comfortable and private. We enjoyed having a smaller pool, along with the beach being steps away. The kids enjoyed the pool and game room so much! It was perfect for keeping them busy.
The house also offers snorkel and kayaks which were great for exercise and just relaxing on the peaceful waters. Snorkeling had lots of fish to offer and sea turtles we saw everyday.
The housekeepers and cook were welcoming and very accommodating. The meals were delicious! It was very nice not having to clean up, but getting to relax after your meal. Ladies, thanks for all of your hard work!
We highly recommend La Paloma! We look forward to our next visit, but for a 2 week vacation.
Stunning sunsets and jaw dropping sea views from a very spacious and comfortable terrace. Games room awesome as is the beach which provides a fine jogging track! Great location for exploring the west coast and Bridgetown
The bedrooms and living areas are very comfortable and the place is run efficiently by very delightful and responsive staff.
We took a party of ten to La Paloma at Easster to celebrate my 60th birthday. The group included our children and grandchildren, the youngest being ten years old.
We found the house to be in a wonderful location with stunning views over the sea.It offered us everything we could possibly want and is extremely well equipped.
There are staff who provide superb meals when requiredand who clean the house daily.Nothing was too much trouble for them.
We would thoroughly recommend the house and are quite sure that it would not disappoint.
La Paloma Beach Villa is situated approximately half way between Bridgetown and Holetown, in Fitts Village. The famous Cliff and Cin Cin Restaurants are less than half a mile away. Sandy Lane and many of the luxurious West Coast hotels and restaurants are also very close. Jordans supermarket where most basic commodities can be bought is a 5 minute walk. There is a large supermarket and Gourmet Dele in Holetown. There is a new and very fashionable bar at the Lime Centre in Holetown but most of the night life occurs along the South Coast. Young family members can easily get Taxis through-out the night to St Lawrence Gap or Harbour Lights in Brigdetown. New visitors to the Island will be surprised at the wealth of things to do on the Island. Hiring a car to see the Atlantic coast and a visit to the Plantation houses which are open to the public is highly recommended.
Other Activities: There is world class surfing. Which part of the island depends on local conditions. Snorkelling is usually very good outside the house. There are several golf courses and windsurfing, diving and many other sports also available on the island
