Bourgueil Delightful Cottage in heart of Loire Valley with private heated pool

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful character filled cottage in June 2009. We stayed there with my parents and our two children aged 4 and 2. The cottage was large enough to accommodate us comfortably and was furnished to a high standard, with lots of lovely touches.

This cottage would be lovely any time of the year. In winter it would be cosy inside, with the lovely lounge and fireplace. In the summer, when we stayed, the stunning garden was in full bloom, and had lots of little seating areas to relax in, including the hammock! The pool was lovely, and was heated. We found the pool cover was a saviour with our children, and had it on at all times when the pool wasn't in use to prevent any accidents.

The location of the cottage is good, and within driving distance to many of the sights in the Loire Valley. It is a short trip into the centre of charming Bourgueil. We recommend the markets, and wine tasting at the Abbey, which can be arranged through the Tourist Information Office.

Michel was a great host and it was good to have him on site to answer questions, however he always gave us our complete privacy.

Overall, we would recommend this cottage for a lovely holiday..

We rented this cottage for a week in April '09. For starters the pictures didn't do it any justice - it was far more beautiful than we had anticipated. The interior was decorated in outstanding taste, yet still creating a homely feel. The fireplace and lounge were witness to some very late evenings. The kitchen was kitted out VERY well, which makes all the difference on a self-catering holiday. The fact that the huge Hyper U was less that a mile away also made life quite easy regarding food. Between us we had 3 children there ranging in age from 1 - 5 years old. The home catered for their needs too which was fantastic.

The garden and the hammock brought great joy. Unfortunately it hadn't warmed up enough yet to justify opening the heated pool, but I can imagine that it would make for most of your time spent outdoors once it was. The property is safe and private and located conveniently for day trips to Chinon and the magical Sleeping Beauty Castle in Usse. We had a wonderful time and hope to repeat it in the near future.

We have just returned from 2 weeks spent in this well appointed, character cottage with super gardens and lovely swimming pool. The cottage was clean, very nicely furnished in French style, old beams, sloping ceilings (not good if you are very tall), gated private gardens and most importantly as we had a 2 year old with us a safety pool cover which when closed prevented kids falling in the pool!. The owner lives on site, is friendly, helpful but completely respectful of your privacy.
Idyllically situated on the outskirts of a village it gives a rural feel but has a large supermarket within a 2 mins drive. The town of Bourgeil is attractive, has a great market on Sat and Tues but we found with very young children hard to find suitable places to eat in the evening. The local wine is very nice and this is the ideal place to use as base to explore the Loire valley, wine caves and chateaux. We had mixed weather so when not using the pool we went out and found plenty of suitable places to visit with children ranging from 2, 5 and 13.
We were delighted with the cottage, however please note it has an open slated staircase and the rear upper fire exit has a stair case with a rail but no bar therefore I would hesitate to advise this cottage as suitable to families with toddlers under the age of 2.5 (our youngest is nearly 3 and she was fine) but for everybody else I throughly recommend it as a great location for your summer holidays. I also think it would make a fantastic winter romantic destination as the lounge has a huge open working fireplace ideal for those chilly nights.
Overall great cottage, great location, good value, highly recommended.
