DESCRIPTION:

Cozy river front home with beautiful sweeping views of the Truckee River and mountains. A hidden gem in a secluded and serene neighborhood. The house has recently been remodeled with modern mountain style finishes and furnishings, and is fully equipped with everything you should need to relax and enjoy the mountains. Some of the best fly fishing water that the Truckee River has to offer is right in our backyard, and the river can now be fished year round. There are several other good fisheries nearby including the Little Truckee River, Boca Reservoir, Stampede Reservoir, Prosser Reservoir, Donner Lake, and Pyramid Lake for large Lahontan Cutthroat. Fly fishing, Skiing, Paddling, Swimming, Biking, Hiking, and more, all right outside our door.

UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS: sleeps 8 people. 3 Bedrooms: one king and two queens, plus bunk beds. 2 Bathrooms: whirlpool bath and shower in master bedroom, shower in guest bathroom. This level is perfect for 3 couples, a romantic spacious getaway for two, ideal for families with kids, and group retreats.

UPSTAIRS KITCHEN: Full gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops, all new stainless steel appliances including: gas 5 burner stove top with griddle, dishwasher, side by side refrigerator, oven, and microwave. Lots of pots and pans, cooking utensils, and small appliances such as toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, mixer, blender, slow cooker, and more...

UPSTAIRS LIVING ROOM: 40” flat screen TV, deluxe cable package with DVR, Stereo CD player, leather sofa and recliner plus a sectional sofa for lounging in front of the fire (2 day beds). AMAZING VIEWS of the Truckee River and mountains.

UPSTAIRS DINING AREA: connected and open to the living room and kitchen, large rustic table with benches seats eight comfortably, views of the Truckee River and mountains.

UPSTAIRS DEN: original rock fireplace from the 1890's with a daybed, rocking chair, and work desk with chair.

UPSTAIRS DECK: a large wood deck added in 2005, with amazing views of the river and mountains. There is a dining table with umbrella with seating for 6, plus 4 lounge chairs. The deck is gated - good for keeping small children and dogs contained. Because the house is built into the hillside, the back deck is on the 2nd story with stairs down to the back yard.

FRONT ENTRY: Remodel completed in March 2013, heated concrete steps from the driveway to the front door so you don't have to shovel snow. Covered metal grate bridge, and covered patio with seating and firewood storage. Moss covered granite boulders and native plants are spread through the natural landscape. Chunky wood post and beam construction with concrete and metal work update this attractive new addition.

DOWNSTAIRS LEVEL - RENOVATION COMPLETED MARCH 2013. New amenities downstairs include 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom, with beds for 4 people (2 on a king bed in the bedroom, and 2 on twin XL day beds in the living room). The bathroom is all new with a 2 person shower and heated concrete floor. There is a big open living room with views of the river and mountains, a new fireplace, bar / kitchenette with seating for 4, a sectional sofa in front of a rock fireplace with a 46” flat screen TV, deluxe cable package and DVR. About Riaz Finnemore

We are avid skiers, hikers, bikers, paddlers, and fly fishers. We love escaping from the city to our home in the mountains to enjoy some peace and quiet and the great outdoors. We invite you to stay at our place and we will try and provide you with everything you need to have a great vacation!

Riaz Finnemore purchased this house in 2002

Why Riaz Finnemore chose Truckee

We spotted this hidden gem of a house while fly fishing the Truckee river. It's in a great location with easy access from the bay area or the Reno airport. The neighborhood is small, secluded and quiet, and right outside the door we enjoy nature and all of our favorite activities - no car required!

What makes this house unique

Aside from the obvious benefit of having the Truckee River right in our back yard, there is a really nice fire road just 100 yards from our front door which you can walk, run, bike, and sometimes even cross country ski! It goes along the river for a few miles and provides access to different spots on the river as well as some great views! We also have Boca Reservoir just a couple miles up the road which has boating, fishing, swimming, camping, biking, etc. If you are into biking, there are lots of good roads and mountain bike trails right outside the door. Paddlers tend to put in near our house because a couple miles down stream are the best rapids on the Truckee. Fishing is also best on our section of the river as we benefit from additional water from Boca Reservoir and other feeder rivers. If you want to be the first one or last one on the river, nothing beats staying on the river! If you enjoy skiing then you will enjoy missing all the traffic going to the Lake as we have the reverse commute, and we are also closer to I80 when you want to head home! If you enjoy quiet and nature then this is the place, there is plenty of wildlife just outside the door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at your Truckee River House was great. Very different from our usual family vacation (we usually go to a lake). There is more than enough

to keep any family entertained. The pool table was a big success and the large area to play family games was also great. Lots of walks, watching

deer and other little creatures. We also did the river rafting and a tour of the Tahoe area. The house was more than accommodating for 12 people and we enjoyed the patio and outside area. Would be a great place in the winter also. Thanks again for the use for your home.

Late October Vacation

  • 5 of 5
This is a spectacular vacation home. We came planning to fish and hike. Even though it rained and snowed during our visit, we were able to enjoy the outdoors because of the very protected location along the river. There is also a great kitchen, plenty of space for cozy reading and a pool table for group fun. The house is beautiful.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you liked the house and enjoyed your stay. The views from the house make it a great place to cozy up, have a fire and watch the snow fall on the mountains and river. But fall is also a great time to fish, some of my most successful days have been fishing the Truckee River in the rain and snow. The reasons are the weather keeps many people inside so the fish get less pressure from anglers, and the fish seem less cautious in overcast conditions, which makes for better fishing. The Truckee is open to fishing all year on the lower stretch where my house is located, so come on out and fish any time!

fly fishing retreat

for my 70th birthday a group of 4 avid fly fisherman used the upstairs only for a couple of nights - great house for access to fishing the truckee and using the gourmet kitchen to prepare filet mignon, lamb, full breakfasts and perhaps a bottle or 3 of fine wines.
comfortable sleeping arrangements, big dining table, all in all a nice house, and the owner, being a fly fishermen himself, gave us nice discounts. thanks!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you had a memorable time, enjoyed the house, and got into some fish on dry flies downstream. Fishing in the fall with the colors changing, mild temperatures, and no crowds to contend with is really nice. I offer a fall discount because I typically get fewer bookings, but it's one of the best times to visit and fish. I hope you'll be back again.

Remarkabke Lake Tahe Summer Trip

  • 5 of 5
This is an unforgetable trip for me and my wife who hosted a college reunion vacation trip for 4 couples known one another from college since 1975. Two couples from Taiwan, one from DC, and we are from San Jose. All the other 3 couples were coming to San Jose to join and celebrate with us for our son's wedding. We took one week vacation after this wedding event.

We stayed in this rental property for 4 nights. It was a fantastic experieince. The property is located in a very beautiful and quite area. The weather is fanstastic. The property is maintained in an excellent conidtition and even better than it was described in the website. We beleive the owner is a a very generous guy who is willing to shrea the best to his guests. All the beds are in high quality condition and are very comfortable for sleep. The location is very convenient for us to visit either donner lake, lake Tahoe- Emerald Bay, Beaches, or Reno casinos. The price is very reasonable and the owner is very responsive to any questions. We all enjoyed a very relaxed vacation. We highly recommend this propoerty to other people and may come back again in the near future.
Thank you, the generous owner of the rental property.

Beautiful Scenery

  • 5 of 5
My family went to this beautiful home the first week of summer holidays from school and we had planned so many wonderful activities and this home was perfect for us to make it possible for us to do it all. We went fly fishing, swimming in the refreshing waters, rock climbing, eating delicious meals in the little village of Truckee, and more.

In the evenings, we relaxed, sat by the fire, and watched movies, and woke up in the morning with the sounds of babbling brook of Truckee River.

If you have young children my age, this is a perfect place to stay at.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the wonderful review! There are lots of great places to rock climb nearby, with all levels of difficulty for beginners to experts. My kids learned to climb on the granite above Donner Lake which not only offers many routes, but also has beautiful views of the lake and mountains. We are very fortunate to have this area just 15 minutes from the house.

Great Time had by all

  • 5 of 5
Great time had by all our party. House was perfect for all our needs. Enough room for everyone and the kids loved the down stairs (pool table and big screen TV). House was close to all our day trips and enjoyed coming back and relaxing on that beautiful deck overlooking the river and mountains. Were already planning a 2nd trip. Thank You Riaz for opening up this beautiful home for us to enjoy.

Excellent Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
My family & I had a wonderful 4 nights at this cabin. During the day My Mom & Sister would go shopping in near by Truckee while my Dad, Brother & I were hiking & fishing. My brother caught an 18 inch German Brown trout about 100 yards down stream from the cabin. It made everything I caught look like a sardine.
At night we just relaxed in the gazebo overlooking the river or playing pool. There was plenty of room for everyone to stretch & hang out.
Big screen HD TV's, comfy beds & couches, lightning fast Wifi. What more can you ask for?

Owner's Response: Sounds like good times, that's a nice size brown trout! I've caught fish as big as 20", but I've seen them go 2 feet and bigger. The town of Truckee keeps getting better, and they have big plans to make it even better, preserving the charming historical old town feel. This year I went to the 4th of July parade and must say it was really good! Thanks for the great review, hope you visit again!
