We had the joy of staying at Kereru House for two weeks in March. If we could choose the perfect house for us this would be it. It was a wonderful holiday stay. Mary communicated with us frequently during the booking process, giving us information we needed to make our decisions.
Kereru House is perched spectacularly on a cliff overlooking the Tasman Sea, with views of Nelson across the water. It is surrounded by apple orchards and beautiful flower gardens.
There is also a vegetable garden where we could pick our own produce and we especially enjoyed the delicious strawberries.
The house is wonderfully decorated and has a warm, homey feeling when you walk in. We were greeted with delicious fresh muffins and a supply of various delicacies to start our holiday. There are large windows that bring the outdoors in, a comfy window seat in the lounge, porches with various views and a sunny breakfast room with gorgeous views upstairs. The kitchen is well equipped and it has a washer in the utility room. There are two bathrooms, one the famous "loo with a view".
The upstairs bedroom that we used had sliding doors with screens that led out to one of the balconies. The comfortable bed and peace and quiet at night was conducive to a great night's sleep.
Mary has extensive information available at the house about tourist attractions, as well as the history of the house and a book about the various artworks found in the house.
We quickly became friends with the Highland cattle in the next field and enjoyed the birdlife, especially the family of quail which we saw everyday.
We also enjoyed spending time with Mary and Murray and getting to know them. We even got to ride in Murray's model a to a school fiesta-a unique Kiwi experience.
There are many day trips available from kayaking to golf and visiting wineries.
We enjoyed one of our most wonderful holidays at Kereru House and can only hope to return one day. We can highly recommend staying here.

Gorgeous position, cosy house four stars awarded

We stayed in Mary and Murray's house for two nights in March 2013 and very much enjoyed it. I particularly liked sitting on the side deck and catching a glimpse of the sea through the trees. There are great views from upstairs as well, and a small balcony there where you can eat breakfast in the morning sun looking far out to sea and Nelson in the distance. The house was comfortable and well-equipped, and Mary had kindly left some chocolate muffins and delicious lemon honey for us to enjoy. Murray also brought us a big bag of apples from their orchard. They were happy for us to wander through the orchard and pick vegetables from the garden as well, which we really appreciated. The only negative comment we would make is that we thought the rent was rather high. Anne Forsythe Four stars.

Fantastic accommodation set in an idyllic location

Kereru House is the best holiday home we have ever stayed in.The house is beautifully decorated throughout having well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge with comfortable sofas & chairs & surround sound TV.Large windows allowed the outside to come inside. The walls are decorated with local artists and Mary has put together a profile of their work which is very interesting.
The garden is lovely with a vegetable patch which provided us with more than enough fresh fruit and veg for the whole 12 weeks we stayed.
It is within half an hours drive of the abel Tasman Park, which is excellent for walking, kayaking and taking boat trips, and Nelson which has lots of lovely shops and restaurants.
Mary & Murray are excellent hosts nothing was too much trouble for them.

Five stars

We just completed a 1 wk stay. It is near perfect and Mary and Murray are great and thoughtful hosts. Their cottage is a recent, impressive remodel w/a fine, water panorama and nearly flawless with so many personal and helpful touches. It is semi-secluded, about 25 KM's from Nelson, and not suitable for young children because of a high, vertical cliff to the water. But don't count on finding it on a GPS. Ours from Avis didn't know Aporo Rd. existed. An absolutely wonderful vacation home.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kereru house. The location is spectacular and the house is really well equipped. We enjoyed the kitchen so much we stayed in and cooked local products, drank local wine and it was a perfect place for us to reconnect with friends we hadn't seen in years. The beds are so comfortable we all slept in! We enjoyed eating apples from the trees and picking salad from the garden.
