Photos and Description of the Amesbury vacation cottage rental
3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Sleeps 6 + 1

Set within a beautiful thatched walled garden Enford House Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing & peaceful break in the english countryside but is also within easy reach of many tourist attractions including Stonehenge, Avebury & Salisbury.

The cottage is an attached wing of the 18th Century, Grade 2 listed manor house (Enford House) and is a home away from home with comfortable beds, good quality bedlinen and towels and a well equipped kitchen. The owners live in the main house next door.

The property is surrounded by the wall garden which is situated next to the village church and beyond that fields. The village pub, which serves good food, is 2 minutes walk away. The cottage is child friendly - the garden is enclosed by the wall. The entrance gate can be shut to make sure no children or dogs can get onto the village road. Wifi is available

For those with children, within the large garden (shared with the owners) there is a large trampoline, swing and slide, football net and chickens. When there are spare eggs, and vegetables from the garden, we will put a selection in the cottage fridge for your arrival (please note this is seasonal!). There is also a games room with a table tennis table and table football for all to enjoy

The village of Enford is in the Avon Valley - the village is totally surrounded by countryside and there are lots of places to walk or bicycle. Stonehenge is an hours walk or 10 min drive.

The village has 2 great local pubs. The Swan, which is 2 minutes' walk, and The Red Lion, in the next door village of East Chisenbury, which is 2 minutes' drive or a 20 minute walk. Both do good food - the Red Lion has a Michelin pub award for its food and is a well known Wiltshire pub which people come a long way to visit. There is no shop in the village itself but there are local shops in neighbouring villages less than 5 minutes drive away, major supermarkets in the local towns and all the supermarkets do delivery to the door.

The cottage is ideally situated for the following places of interest

•Stonehenge (10 mins drive) and Avebury (25 mins drive) Stone Circles (World Heritage sites),

•Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum and the Medieval cities of Salisbury & Wilton (25 min drive)

•Historic Market towns of Devizes, Pewsey, and Marlborough (20 min drive)

•Kennet Canal (20 min drive)

•Longleat House, Adventure Playground and Safari Park (40 min drive)

•National Trust village of Lacock (50 min drive)

•Stourhead (50 min drive)

•Bath & Winchester (both 1 hour drive)

•Plus lots of children's activities including family friendly farms, Paultons Park (for Peppa Pig World) and many more - the information booklet in the cottage lists all of these

About Mary Campbell

Simon and Mary Campbell, who own Enford House Cottage, live in the main house next door with their children. The picture shows the main part of the house in which they live. The cottage and main house have seperate entrances it feels very seperate although we are attached at the back. There is a trampoline and Swing and slide in the garden which all guests are welcome to use.

Mary Campbell purchased this cottage in 1969
Why Mary Campbell chose Amesbury

My husbands parents bought the property when he was a baby and he grew up here and inherited it in 2005. His grandmother used to live in the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

With the thatched walled garden and special door in the wall to take you through to the churchyard Enford is a very special place. The cottage has a lovely feeling about it and everyone comments on how comfortable the beds are!

Wonderful escape to the Country

What we loved:
* A cute but modernised, beautifully renovated cottage in a gorgeous tiny village
*Having 3 weeks to stay, which meant time to relax at the cottage
*Great email communication with Mary prior to arrival, and a warm welcome from the whole family, with the pefect blend of monitoring our stay without being intrusive. Our son loved playing with their kids.
*The centrality of the location for day trips in the south west UK - we were able to visit Bath; Bristol and the Cotswolds; Devon; and many closer attractions such as Salisbury, Avesbury, and Stonehenge. You need a car, but we just loved driving around the gorgeous countryside. (Not everything is open in winter eg. historic properties, however this didn't bother us.)
*Cleaners came weekly, which we appreciated
* For a family with teenagers, we loved having a TV in each bedroom - we realised how great this was, when we didn't have it at other accomodation!
* Comfy beds; kitchen well equipped - we self-catered for 3 weeks; for a longer stay we recommend heading straight to Tesco's at Amesbury!
* We thoroughly enjoyed a meal at the local pub
* We would highly recommend this property

Charming and warm family get away

We visit from Los Angeles each year to see relatives that live in the London area. Recently we have taken to renting VRBO cottages and dragging our extended family OUT of London for a weekend. The Enford Cottage was perfect for 4 adults and 2 children; having 3 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms is almost unheard of in the area. The cottage itself is fully stocked with very comfortable beds and linens and a complete kitchen. Unexpected amenities such as milk, tea, coffee and FRESH eggs (laid that week by the family’s chickens) made it even more comfortable. The owners could not have been more friendly or welcoming. We were fortunate enough to be there for a fresh blanket of snow which provided for our son’s first opportunity to go sledging. Luckily Mary, family and friends provided us with supplies and invited us along on an adventure. We will never forget it.
The village has a classic British Pub, The Swan, which is so convenient (5 minutes walk even in snow). The husband and wife proprietors are welcoming and the food is outstanding. Just 10 minutes by car is the village of Amesbury where we bought all of our groceries. We love the small village feel and they had everything from wine and cheese to fresh meat and vegetables. There are two pubs across the street from each other, we had lunch at The Ship which was also thoroughly enjoyable (especially the dogs which were most welcome and friendly).
Our family hopes to return to Enford House very soon.

Wonderful winter break!

We had a wonderful stay in this excellent cottage. It was lovely to stay in such a child-friendly location and we were made to feel very welcome. The cottage itself is exceptionally clean and well set-up, and having 3 bathrooms was an enormous bonus. The owner gave us eggs from her hens, and the cottage is perfectly located for visiting many sites of interest.

In addition, the local knowledge and information was invaluable, and Mary went to great lengths to ensure that we were well looked after. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage, with the exception of people who are mobility impaired, as they may find some of the access difficult.

The local pubs served very good food, and services are easy to access. We are looking forward to trying to visit in another season. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We had a very happy holiday in this lovely cottage. Coming from belgium we were very excited by the walled garden and lovely old house the cottage is part of. Really well equipped in the cottage and we felt at home very soon. We visited the beautiful countryside and lots of 'old stones'!

We got married in the church next door to the cottage and it could not have been more perfect. it was an amazing weekend and to be able to stay in such a beautiful cottage and walk through the gate in the wall into the churchyard was amazing. The cottage was comfortable, clean with lots of room for us all and beds very comfortable with nice bedding. Couldn't have asked for more
