Overview

Amesbury Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Sleeps 6 + 1

With 3 ensuite bedrooms, and set within a beautiful thatched walled garden and with a fantastic pub 2 mins walk away Enford House Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing & peaceful break in the english countryside but is also within easy reach of many tourist attractions including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury and Bath

The cottage is an attached wing of the 18th Century, Grade 2 listed manor house (Enford House) and is a home away from home with comfortable beds, good quality bedlinen and towels and a well equipped kitchen as well as WiFi and a games room with Table Tennis and Table Football and a swing and slide in the garden

The property is surrounded by the wall garden which is situated next to the village church and beyond that fields. The village pub, which serves good food, is 2 minutes walk away. The cottage is child friendly - the garden is enclosed by the wall and there is a thatched games room for visitors to use with table tennis and table football and also a swing and slide in the garden and also a football goal. Wifi is available throughout the property.

The garden is completely enclosed and the entrance gate can be shut for those with young children or dogs.

The village of Enford is in the Avon Valley - the village is surrounded by countryside and there are lots of places to walk or bicycle. Stonehenge is an hours walk or 10 min drive.

The village has 2 great local pubs. The Swan, which is 2 minutes' walk, and The Red Lion, in the next door village of East Chisenbury, which is 2 minutes' drive or a 20 minute walk. Both do good food - the Red Lion has a Michelin pub award for its food and is a well known Wiltshire pub which people come a long way to visit. There is no shop in the village itself but there are local shops in neighbouring villages less than 5 minutes drive away, major supermarkets in the local towns and all the supermarkets do delivery to the door. And for those looking for a winter get away the cottage is very warm with central heating throughout, an electric log burner in the sitting room and double glazing so is very cosy!

The cottage is ideally situated for the following places of interest

•Stonehenge (10 mins drive) and Avebury (25 mins drive) Stone Circles (World Heritage sites),

•Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum and the Medieval cities of Salisbury & Wilton (25 min drive)

•Historic Market towns of Devizes, Pewsey, and Marlborough (20 min drive)

•Kennet Canal (20 min drive)

•Longleat House, Adventure Playground and Safari Park (40 min drive)

•National Trust village of Lacock (50 min drive)

•Stourhead (50 min drive)

•Bath & Winchester (both 1 hour drive)

•Plus lots of children's activities including family friendly farms, Paultons Park (for Peppa Pig World) and many more - the information booklet in the cottage lists all of these

About Mary Campbell

Simon and Mary Campbell, who own Enford House Cottage, live in the main house next door with their children. The picture shows the main part of the house in which they live. The cottage and main house have seperate entrances it feels very seperate although we are attached at the back. There is a trampoline and Swing and slide in the garden which all guests are welcome to use.

Mary Campbell purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Mary Campbell chose Amesbury

My husbands parents bought the property when he was a baby and he grew up here and inherited it in 2005. His grandmother used to live in the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

With the thatched walled garden and special door in the wall to take you through to the churchyard Enford is a very special place. The cottage has a lovely feeling about it and everyone comments on how comfortable the beds are!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very happy holiday in this lovely cottage. Coming from belgium we were very excited by the walled garden and lovely old house the cottage is part of. Really well equipped in the cottage and we felt at home very soon. We visited the beautiful countryside and lots of 'old stones'!

Simply phantastic

  • 5 of 5

We were six people (three adults, three children, - 11 and 12) and had a wonderful week in this wonderful cottage. Had a warm welcome from Mary, every need was attended to, everything required was in the cottage, all was clean and nice, the garden is beautiful, the pub nearby is great - simply perfect. The children asked to please stay another week and we would have loved to.

Highly recommended.

Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

A gorgeous cottage in a beautiful location. Better than the pictures. The owners ( who live next door) were extremely helpful and kind. A lot to see nearby. A great family meal enjoyed at the Swan which is an easy 2 minute walk away, and a beautiful dinner at the Red Lion 5 minutes drive away.

What a perfect spot for our family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as I saw this cottage online after an extensive search, I knew it was the right one -- and I was happily proved correct! Quaint and very "olde England" on the outside with all the mod cons on the inside. We were three generations coming over from the U.S. for 8 days and all of us loved the cottage, the grounds, and the Enford area. Mary was extremely easy to work with ahead of time. She made sure all my questions were answered and by the time I actually met her I already felt she was a friend. During our stay she and her family were nearby (their main house is joined to the cottage) but never obtrusive. When we had a question or minor concern she addressed it immediately.

For groceries we went to the Sainburys Local in Durlington, less than 10 minutes away, and they had everything we needed. Enjoyed several dinners in the Swan, where they welcomed us like locals. We took day trips to Salisbury, Marlborough, Swanage, the Cotswolds, and Avebury. Mom and I enjoyed market day in local towns while my brother and nephew took long walks (and met the local farmer and his bull named Teddy). The weather cooperated, I didn't wreck the car, and we always had our cozy nest to return to at the end of the day. What more could you ask for?

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot praise Enford House Cottage highly enough. Spotlessly clean, incredibly comfortable, equipped with everything you can possibly think of, and in a wonderfully peaceful location. The owners are lovely people, very friendly and welcoming, and have compiled a helpful and comprehensive folder full of details of places to eat, places to visit, places to shop, places to walk etc. The cottage itself is beautiful, very light and spacious, with lovely views from every window. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby, including Salisbury Cathedral, Wilton House, and the Avebury Stones, and the Cotswolds are only just over an hour away. Negative points? Absolutely none! The cottage and its owners deserve every one of the five stars awarded – and then some. We only stayed from Monday – Friday (I wish we’d booked a fortnight!) but still managed to end our short holiday feeling refreshed, relaxed and revitalised. If you’re still undecided whether to book your break here I can assure you, you won’t be disappointed. This place is perfect.

Delightful stay in Wiltshire

  • 5 of 5

Four friends from Canada had a most memorable stay in this beautiful country cottage. Nothing was too much trouble for our host, Mary and we recommend it without reservation. The cottage is spacious, beautifully furnished and perfectly located for visiting historic sights in central southern England.

Wonderful cottage in beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful. Our family of 6 stayed for a week, and we were very pleased with everything - very clean and well-maintained, the rooms and beds were very comfortable, and we loved having a bathroom for each bedroom! The grounds were absolutely gorgeous, and we enjoyed a few berries and apples! Mary graciously provided some eggs and milk when we arrived. We would recommend this cottage to anyone, and hope to return someday. It was the perfect location for day trips to Salisbury, Bath, Marlborough, and others.
