Park La Truffiere is a 4000 square meter property which 100 years ago had been part of a one hectare truffle farm. The house is the original house on the property but both the land and house have been completely renovated , restored and redesigned. Even part of the original alley which was created to cut through the truffle trees to get to the house is still there and can be seen. A new 220 meter passageway with solar gate has been constructed now to get to Park La Truffiere.
In the park itself many of the 100 year old trees have cut down or trimmed to open up sunny spaces for the wonderful 11X4 salt water swimming pool, the deep blue Provencal skies,the gardens,sitting and dining areas.On the other hand many trees have been retained for beauty and shade which is vitally necessary in the hot summer months. There is nothing like old great oaks for coolness and serenity. So actually on this property there are trees on every side, north, south , east and west which give much privacy and protection and create a barrier to the other houses around. Also there is the attraction of all the birds which love old twisted trees and make for marvelous relaxation and peace of mind. This is a holiday in a park where you can swim, eat, read relax and be with your family and friends in complete privacy and comfort. Ideal for families and reunions of families and friends.
The property sits in a neighborhood which is 800 meter walking distance from the lovely village of St Didier where one will find five restaurants and pizzerias, cafes, three bakeries, news stand, nougaterie and ice cream shop, pharmacy, coiffure and whatever one would need. So one can literally walk every morning to the village for croissants and bread, have a coffee, pick up the newspaper and walk back to the property for breakfast.
The house has been completely restored in warm Provencal colors and materials; 35 m2 living room with large open fireplace,22m2 meter bathroom with oversized granite bathtub/ sink and walk in Italian shower, 26m2 kitchen with cut stone counter tops and great view to the park in the back with a small covered porch.
There are 4 bedrooms( actually 5 bedrooms if you include the cottage with its own kitchen and bathroom), 2 in the front of the house with French doors which open to the large veranda and the park to the front side of the house. The master bedroom has a big window with view on the new pool. One bedroom is in the upper floor with separate sink and toilet. All bedrooms have double beds. Three rooms have large inbuilt cupboards with large cupboard in the hallway. There is a children bed available.

By bike, car or foot, one can visit the most beautiful villages the south of France can offer; Gordes, Venasque, Isle sur Sorgue, Avignon, Roussillon. What is the most unique thing about this area is that there is water unlike the rest of the south. Fountain de Vaucluse with its unexplorable source is very near so there is water and where there is water there is vegetation and fruit trees. This is the bread basket of France with cherry, fig, olive,melon and berries plentiful.
The ocean to Marseille or Cassis is a 1 hr drive; Avignon is a half hour drive. Bike ways (bikes can be rented), for the beginner or the most advanced all the way to the Mt Ventoux and everything in between, walkways though the vineyards and many medieval villages all nearby. Whatever your heart desires, it is here.
“A wonderful home from home”
We were just two, and thought we might be lonely in a house that could easliy accommodate three couples, or two with lots of children (and even more, if you take the gite as well). The kitchen is large and well equipped, with room for three or even four to work together in crazy harmony. There is a back patio as well as a large front garden, with plenty of outdoor furniture, so separate groups can get away fom each other when they want to. And then there is the pool area, at the side. But in fact, we enjoyed having it all to ourselves, the large, cool rooms and the outside space, because it is such a friendly, lived in house. You feel that "the others" will be back soon, and you can enjoy the luxury of being alone for a while. The attentiveness of the owners, who telephoned a few times to make sure we were comfortable and had found everything we needed, added to the friendly feeling, So did occasional visits from a local friend of theirs who came to water the garden, and a man who came to clean the pool. Both were willing to chat if we were in the mood, or to do their thing quietly in the background if we didn't. (We chose to chat.) There are neighours quite close at hand, but we saw and heard almost nothing of them - just an occasional waved hand and smile or a call of "bonjour". St-Didier proper is just five minutes away by car, or a pleasant 20 minute walk, and has all the day-to-day necessities -- a fine 'de luxe' restaurant and others more modest but still very good -- a boulangerie, a mini-marche that somehow finds room for everything (including excellent fruit and veg), and a little general store. There's a market on Monday mornings with stalls for everything from straw hats via dried herbs and fresh olives to local cheese and honey. And all this in the very best location in Provence, with the Luberon to the South, the Vaucluse to the North and easy access to Avignon, Arles, Orange and Nimes for those who care for history (or shopping). In fact, Carpentras (just 15 minutes away by car) is all the "town" anyone really needs, and has some interesting history. We had a very happy ten days here, and were really sad to have to leave.
Dominic and Susanna Fischer are both artist educators who live in the northeastern corner of Switzerland near to the Lake of Konstanz, near to the borders of Austria and Germany. Susanna is Swiss and Dominic is American. Both work in the field of music and theater, writing ,directing and producing projects of all kinds including crossover concerts for all ages as well as seminars and workshops. Both have a keen aesthetic sense which they have brought into the restoration of this house and property and this is what makes it so particular and unique. Both have traveled all over the world( 27 countries) with their respective art and thus have learned not only different languages but also different cultures and perspectives which they bring also in communicating with their guests from many different lands.
Dominic and Susanna had built a house in the Luberon near to Apt and the Colorado about 20 years ago. So they know this region extremely well and intimately. Five years ago they desired to have a larger property so they could have many more plants, flowers and trees as well as a larger swimming pool for swimming and more land and a larger house which they could restore and recreate every detail. Then in 2008, they found this wonderful property in St Didier and began restoring firstly the house and then the land which was nearly a half hectare of what was once a truffle farm with over 300 oak trees.
The location is ideal being 800 meters from a beautiful lively village which has everything one would need plus being situated near to the Mount Ventoux, the Sorgue river and many marvelous Provencal villages (Isle sur la Sorgue, Baumes de Venise, Fontaines de Vaucluse) and cities like Avignon. In the last 4 years Dominic and Susanna have worked to realize their vision for this house. Since 2012 a separate apartment for 2 persons is available as well.

The Vaucluse is bordered by the River Rhône to the west and the River Durance to the south. Mountains occupy a significant proportion of the eastern half of the department, with the Mont Ventoux (1,912 m), also known as 'the Giant of Provence', dominating the landscape. Other important mountain ranges include the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Monts de Vaucluse, and the Luberon. Fruit and vegetables are cultivated in great quantities in the lower-lying parts of the department, on one of the most fertile plains in southern France.

The Vaucluse is in the heart of Provence , where the Luberon and the Comtat de Venaissin lies, with its ancient medieval hilltop villages. The Comtat region where St.Didier lies is well known for its water due to the source at the Fontaine de Vaucluse which forms the river Sorgue and leads to Isle sur la Sorgue. Provence is home to the Mont Ventoux, lavender, wine and sunflower fields. Provence has as its capital city Avignon, which is ranked as a UNESCO world heritage site.Provence has lively markets every day, antique markets, brocantes, truffles, olive oil and outstanding wines such as: Chateauneuf du Pape, Côtes du Rhone, Gigondas etc.
A 30 minutes drive from St Didier leads you on a tour of all the famous Provencal towns including Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes, Bonnieux and Lourmarin which have been made known by Peter Mayle and his books .
