Skiing, Snowboarding: St. Georgen/St. Lorenzen is situated directly at the “Kreischberg“ ski mountain, the most popular ski resort in the surroundings of Murau. The “Kreischberg” offers over 42km of snow safe runs catering for all difficulties. There are scenic runs, learner hills, wide carving slopes and a selective run into the valley. Particularly versatile is also the offer for children: Yabba-Dabba-Doo Land, Dinopark, children’s tubing, trampoline, magic carpet, ski crèche and more. Snowboarders will be impressed with the longest half-pipe in Europe Kreischberg and a snowboard fun park. Kreischberg hosted the snowboarding 2003, 2006 and 2010 World Cup and will also host it in 2015.
For cross-country skiers there are several tracks laid, the most beautiful route being along the river Mur - all accessible in minutes from your doorstep.
If that’s not enough four further ski resorts nearby are waiting to be explored (Frauenalpe, Grebenzen, Lachtal, Turracher Höhe). Ski buses operate from Dec to March.
Hiking: The “Mur“ valley holiday region offers numerous scenic hiking tracks between 800m and 2700m for all levels of difficulty. Dramatic changes in the landscape between the eleven different hiking regions of the area make the hiking in Styria particularly exciting. The “Gstoder” mountain in St. Ruprecht boasts the most spectacular views of the valley; the hike to the “Zwiefeln” glacier lakes is versatile and offers the most beautiful mountain panorama. The seven-peak mountain tour from the “Frauenalpe” to the “Kreischberg” is a challenge for even the more seasoned hikers. Beutiful family hikes are also accessible from the 'Turracher Hoehe'. It is also possible to enjoy more leisurely walks from hut to hut, Eco-farm to Eco-farm with a rather more culinary theme.
In July and August, the Kreischberg gondola operates and can give you a lift up the mountain from which you can enjoy spectacular alpine scenery. You will be able to see right onto our chalet from the other side of the valley.
Other Activities: “Murtal Rafting“: The river “Mur“ offers ideal conditions for rafting catering for all grades of difficulty from beginner to more seasoned adventure rafter.
Golf: Situated between the Kreischberg and Murau is the 18-hole Golf course and driving range of St. Georgen/St. Lorenzen. The surrounding mountains, wooded areas and the river “Mur” set magnificent scenery for a leisurely game of golf.
Cycling: The “Murradweg“ bicycle track is most picturesque between Murau and Stadl. There are numerous restaurants and picnic spots and the route leads through the unspoiled scenery of the Nock- and Tauern mountains along the river Mur.
Horse Riding: On offer are hikes on horseback, riding lessons, pony riding for children and excursions by horse-drawn carriage.
The artificial lake in Stadl is open for swimming in the summer and Ice skating in the winter.
