This private, full-floor apartment is located in a private Owner occupied townhouse, not a large anonymous apartment building. Although you will be self-sufficient in your apartment, the Owner is always available to you for whatever you may need during your stay: tips on sites and getting around NYC, arranging taxi service, emergency repairs, restaurant advice. Much like a private concierge. The townhouse is safe and secure with multiple entry locks, fire & safety systems, well-lighted entry and stairways, outside video security. Your family can be assured of privacy, safety, cleanliness and convenience. The neighborhood is served by 5 Subways with the nearest only a 2 block, 2 minute walk. All destinations are only a few minutes away.
Your private townhouse apartment will make you feel like your are returning home at the end of each day. Spacious enough to spread out and relax with all the conveniences of home: a fully equipped kitchen, high-def cable TV, free W-Fi, and, of course, big comfortable beds. Live your holiday like a successful New Yorker.
What more could you ask for? After scouring the net, looking for a hotel for my mom and I during the Christmas season, I almost gave up as the prices were cost prohibitive, especially if you preferred not to share a bathroom! Then I remembered VRBO, and selected this unit based on the reviews and the photos (which were accurate and true).
We had a great stay. Ray is kind and considerate, returns calls promptly and was incredibly easy to work with. The apartment is actually quite large considering typical hotel and apartment sizes in NYC. The bedroom is far enough away from the sleeper sofa that I did not hear mom snoring :-) though street noises in the front of the house woke me (a light sleeper) earlier than I would have liked. The sleeper sofa is has a new mattress, comfortable. The bedroom in the back of the house was quiet and extremely comfortable. Everything we needed, and more, was available. So nice to make coffee and relax in the morning. Huge grocery a couple of blocks away for all provisions. It was cold and rainy/snowy during our stay so the apartment provided a nice reprieve for cocoa and curling up with a book. We are native New Yorkers who have moved out of state, and mom is 78 and not as able to get around like she used to so we didn't need to be "out and about" every moment.
Overall, this apartment is extremely nice, an excellent value and I would stay there again.
Myself and my Mother spent six wonderful days at Ray's comfortable spacious and well located brownstone apartment. The area has everything...its predominantly Hispanic with a mix of students from the nearby Columbia University...everybody is so friendly ..chatting and smiling outside busy shops and cafes...we never felt anything other than safe walking around the area both a night time and during the day...the location is as Ray had said a short subway ride from downtown Manhattan so essentially you have the best of both worlds and always have the retreat and comfort of returning to your apartment after a busy day shopping or sightseeing around the city...I've stayed in a hotel downtown before but never again...the sense of living in a living breathing community is more enriching and leaves one with greater sense of having experienced a city. The local Grange restaurant has to be visited (Great Burgers and fine craft beer with lovely friendly staff) ..Cafe was our daily breakfast haunt (simple delicious breakfasts and homemade muffins to die for!..great coffee and hot chocolate too and yes, more friendly staff)...nearby River side park is a must..I ran through it each morning and alongside the Hudson River and down to the northern tip of Central park....picturesque and peaceful and safe..General Grants memorial building can be seen near the entrance to the park and is worth a viewing....one evening I went to the Smoke Jazz club (2751 Broadway) where you can enjoy live Jazz and eat good food at same time (be sure to phone and book as it sells out)...So...yes, I would highly recommend this Apartment and will certainly return for more of the same...Ray was a fantastic host ...meeting us at the Apartment showing us around and giving us all the information on the area including a useful map. On our departure he arranged a Cab to JFK and looked after our Bags while we enjoyed our last day in New York...10 out of 10 :)

This apartment is very modern and well maintained and is full of amazing history.
We are so pleased that we discovered it over the internet and were able to meet Ray (the owner). It is located just off Broadway and is close to transport and all shops. It can sleep up to 6 people very comfortable and is extremely clean.
This place is located in a very safe/secure, friendly and clean area.
We walked the streets at all times of the night and day and felt totally safe, even with our 8 year old.
The full size fridge and stove made it easy for us to do our own cooking. The beds are extremely comfortable and the linen is of high quality. We were there in winter and coming "home" to the warmth of the apartment was so pleasing.
The owner Ray, is extremely friendly and supplies you with a map of the area and points out different sights that might be of interest. He will answer any questions that you might have.
Our flight left very early in the morning, meaning we had to leave for the airport at 3am. Ray organized our private transport and was up waiting for us with his usual friendly smile, just so he could say goodbye, even though it was bitter cold and he could have easily stayed in bed.
We have decided that we will be coming back to New York City in 2016 and will pre book our stay with Ray. We look forward to meeting him again, as well as staying in this comfortable homely apartment.
Thank you Ray for helping make our trip to NYC a pleasant one.
The Byrne Family.
My wife and I spent a long weekend at the townhouse recently and had a fantastic time.
Ray met us upon arrival and walked us up to the 3rd floor and covered the area specifics via map.
As advertised the location is perfect – walking distance to subway, neighborhood spots for coffee, food, groceries, etc.,
We had a great weekend and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Thank You Ray!
First off, Ray was great. He was waiting at the apartment to meet us when we arrived. He showed us around the apartment, gave us subway info and a general overview of the neighborhood, which was invaluable after a long fight to a new city. Quick and easy 15 minute subway ride to Times Square. Great restaurants in the area and it was just nice to come back and relax after a long day of sightseeing.
The apartment was comfortable and clean. The bedroom was nice with ample storage with dressers. The two sofa beds in the living room were great. One drawback is if there are more than 2 people, there is really nowhere for folks sleeping on the sofa beds in the living room to put personal things, ie a dresser of some sort. I would suggest moving a long narrow dresser into the living room and putting the tv on top of that. I would also swap the location of the mirror over the sofa with a picture on the other wall. This would give any more than two people getting ready at the same time the use of a needed extra mirror without having to stand on the sofa.
We really enjoyed the apartment and the neighborhood, and Ray lives very nearby, so was able to assist us when necessary. Our trip to New York was fabulous!
Thanks again for your hospitality Ray.
I came to NYC with my family to run the NYC Marathon. I will admit, I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the ad for this apartment-it sounded too good to be true. This would be my 4th trip to NYC and I had always stayed at an over-priced, crowded hotel. But Ray contacted me quickly, was a delight to work with and quickly put my mind at ease.
When we arrived at the apartment, Ray greeted us with a tour of our home away from home, then sat down with us and gave us advice on everything from where to eat, how to get around, the history of the neighborhood, etc.
The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and spacious and had everything our hearts desired. We quickly fell in love with the neighborhood which was quaint and incredibly quiet!
I cannot recommend this rental enough! Ray, thank you for being an incredible host and providing us with lovely accommodations for a perfect trip! Yours will be the only place I will stay in my return visits to NYC and I will gladly pass along your info to all my fellow runners as a perfect spot for the marathon-or any fun get-away!
My Mome and I had a really great time in Manhatten. We was for four nights in Ray Wicks Apartment. He was a perfect and so friendly host. He makes the start for sightseeing so easy and gave us a very secure feeling and important informations to organize our short trip in New York. The apartment is very clean, secure and in a high Quality. The way to the subway is only two minutes. With the subway to the centre of New York only 10 - 15 min.
Arround the apartment is a nice area with very good little Restaurants for breakfest and dinner also - really good quality of food.
When I will visit New York again, so I come back in this apartment, it is perfekt.
Thank you Ray for your friendly support.
Best regards from Munich, Germany
