Sicily is a treasure trove of historic attractions. Layers of history have created a unique blend of art and architecture, from relics of ancient Greece to the Romans and laterly the Spanish. There is also the interesting influence that North African culture has left. In Sicily you can enjoy jaw dropping art and culture, the lush countryside, pretty towns and simple, delicious food.
The farm is very near the historic medieval town of Polizzi Generosa, which has many ancient buildings. The families of Sicilian Americans such as film directors Martin Scorsese and Antonia Scarpa as well as character actor Vincent Schiavelli, came from the town. Schiavelli was also a food and cookbook writer who wrote about Polizzi Generosa and his roots
Fashion designer Domenico Dolce, one half of the Dolce & Gabbana clothing company, was born in Polizzi Generosa.
Many people believe the towns of the interior of Sicily to be amongst the most attractive towns of all Italy, and Polizzi Generosa and the neighbouring town Castelanna are certainly among them.
The towns are almost at the exact centre of the island, with no other point being more than 2.5 hours drive. The historic coastal city of Cefalu is only 30 minutes drive.
A visit to Palermo, with its colourful and theatrical streets and markets, and its wonderful buildings and art treasures, is definately recommended
A great feature of the garden is that Mount Etna can be seen.
The farm is also on the edge of the Parco delle Madonie national park, with its many available activites. There is an adventure park for children and adults. It is possible to arrange for children of 6-14 years to enjoy programmes at the adventure park. For others there is horse riding locally, mountain biking, olive oil and wine tours, caving and bird watching. The owners will be happy to help arrange activities.
A cook and chambermaid can also be hired should the group prefer help with self catering.Mini bus taxi's are also available.
