Our family of 6 (kids ages: 17, 15, 12, 10) stayed here for several nights. It was a perfect spot for us. The flat was clean and organized. Responses from Julie & Mike at London Short Let Solutions Ltd. (info@HolidayRentalsLondon.com) were prompt and informative. The flat was well equiped with smooth running appliances. Clean linens. Warm Showers. Natural light. Warm working radiators. The pictures make the flat look bigger than it actually is ... but we expected this fact. It is located in Balham that is host to everything you need to "set up shop" - Boots Drug Store, Sainsbury Grocery Market, banks, restaurants, etc. (We didn't spend much time in Balham but it was nice that the stores were within 4-10 minute to purchase the basics. The tube and rail are less than a 5 minute walk with lines to anywhere in the city including London's day trips. We saw a late theatre musical and walked home at 11 p.m. without fear. Fernlea Road is full of flats being remodeled but we were never disturbed by noise, trucks, etc. - it made the street a little dirty with trash but no blame can be put on the flat owners themselves. What you see is what you get! Cheers!

BEAUTIFUL APARTMENT, EXCELLENT LOCATION

We were so pleased with Fernlea View 2 apartment. It's a beautifully appointed 3 bedroom on Fernlea Road in Balham. We had everything we needed for our 1 week stay. We found Balham to be a very clean, quiet, safe residential neighborhood. We were travelling with extended family ages 12-74 and the short 3-4 minute walk down Fernlea Road to the train & tube station, grocery store, pharmacy, cute shops, restaurants, and a huge park was perfect. We took the short train or tube ride into London every day, it was so easy.

Julie is a wonderfully attentive hostess. She answered all my questions, helped with everything from ideas for getting 7 people from Heathrow to Balham to fixing a squeak in a bedroom door. She provides that extra personal touch that makes you feel very comfortable. My husband and I passed her on the street one morning, she immediately recognized us and we had a delightful chat. She's a very friendly and cheerful person who provides exceptional service to her customers. I highly recommend this property, or any of the other properties she has in Balham.

A GREAT FAMILY VACATION RENTAL

My husband and I, along with our son and daughter-in-law and their two children stayed here for 10 days on a recent trip to London to sight see and visit other members of our extended family. We found such easy access from the apartment to the underground and rail station to travel to all parts of London to take in the sights. In the late afternoon we would return to our comfortable accommodations to settle in and prepare dinner in the well equipped kitchen that we had stocked with groceries that were conveniently available just down the street. The large refrigerator was a pleasant surprise as we were expecting a small UK type. We were able to stock it with our wine and beer as well as food! On the evenings that we were too tired to cook we would head out the front door and found we could satisfy everyone's appetites with everything from Starbuck's coffee to hamburgers at the neighbourhood pub to a wide choice of local restaurants. Our grandchildren were delighted when they found we could easily walk to the local park at Tooting Common where they could burn any excess energy at the end of the day. When they returned to their bunk beds in their rooms they were usually too tired to do anything other than sleep even though they had planned to make a fort!
We found every detail was well planned in our accommodation including the towel warmer in the bathroom to ensuring there was enough seating at the dining room table for all of us. Our family vacation was a success even though travelling with different generations is usually a challenge. Having quality accommodations definitely helps reduce stress when travelling. Now if only we could control the weather next time!

What Balham Offers:

Balham, with its higher than average population of residents who work in London in managerial and professional roles, is a safe suburban area with a relaxed neighbourhood feel. Close to central London, yet without that 'city rush', Balham seems to have a comfortable pace that is refreshing after a long day of sightseeing.

Peter Sellers immortalised Balham many years ago when he performed 'Balham, Gateway to the South', a comedy sketch parodying a short travel documentary about the suburb.

Just outside the apartment begin all of the bars, restaurants and shops of Balham's trendy town centre. Balham has a mixture of high street names such as Pizza Express and Starbucks along with independent names such as Harrison's Restaurant, a modern British brasserie with celebrity TV chef Rick Stein as an investment partner.

There is a large Sainsburys supermarket, the up scale Waitrose supermarket, independent organic food shops and Hildreth Street Market. A street market since the turn of the century, pedestrianised Hildreth Street comprises a small regular group of stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers and also offers special stalls in the Balham Farmers Market held on many Saturdays throughout the year.

The Bedford Pub, which is THE central community hub of Balham with its popular live music and Banana Cabaret stand-up comedy club is conveniently right next door to the apartment!

But if you feel like venturing past next door, Balham offers a very wide choice of venues for food and drink. Included amongst these are 'The Lounge', a Spanish tapas bar & restaurant that is across the street, 'Tagine', an authentic Morrocan restaurant, 'The Paddyfield' Vietnamese/Thai restaurant and the 'Cattle Grid' steakhouse.

Balham offers a range of services too, including many hair and beauty establishments, financial services and the Balham Leisure Centre with pool, sauna & steam room, gym, squash courts and exercise classes.

Tooting Common, Wandsworth Common and Clapham Common are all within walking distance. Nearby Tooting Common boasts the UK's largest open air swimming pool and has tennis courts, a children's playground and plenty of space for outdoor activities.
