STONE COTTAGE WITH LARGE PRIVATE POOL AND VIEWS OF HISTORICAL RUINS

Kayakoy Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bed,2 bath cottage with large private pool and gardens close to amenities

Ozlem Evi is owned by a friendly and very hospitable local Turkish family.

The property is nestled at the bottom of the hills, overlooked by the ghostly ruins of an abandoned Greek Village perched on the hillside, the result of a forced poplualtion exchange between Greece and Turkey in the early 1920s.

These views can be appreciated from the private pool area, a welcome relief during the hot mediterranean summers.

The Cottage has a large covered verandah area with dining table, a spacious open kitchen dining and living room and two bedrooms with a bathroom between.

It is a great family property and is one of the most centrally located holiday rentals in the Village, just a short walk to erstaurants, local bus and markets.

A short bus ride will take you through the picturesque Valley and down the winding road to Gemiler Beach. Many come to this area to enjoy just this spectacular views of clear turquoise waters and pine forests with mountain backdrop and blue sky.

Kaya Village: Kaya Village is located around the historic ruins of Levissi. Nearly 2000 ruins lie nestled against the hillside, forming an open-air museum or “Ghost Town”. Levissi was abandoned following a population exchange between Greece and Turkey in the early 1920’s. Exploring the site via worn pathways weaving between houses and churches is a wonderful experience.

The ruins of Levissi were the inspiration for the Louis De Bernieres novel Birds Without Wings.

Birds Without Wings begins in the early 1900's in an idyllic town in South West Anatolia during the declining years of the Ottoman Empire. It traces the fortunes of one small community in which Christian and Muslim lived and how traditions have co-existed peacefully over the centuries.

Transport: Car hire is not necessary but if guests are thinking about renting a car, it is a very good way to see the best of what the area has to offer. If guests are interested in particular in seeing the Lycian ruins scattered about the area then a car is recommended. Aircon in the car can be a welcome relief during the hottest months (July/August) so guest may wish to hire a car if they want to sightsee in comfort. Car hire is charged on a weekly rate or a daily rate for bookings less than a week. The local transport in the area is the 'Dolmus' bus. Previous visitors to will be familiar with this system you can board the bus anywhere from the side of the road or waiting at a designated stop. Buses are regular and on time. Many characters are met on the Dolmus bus. A good cultural experience. The Kayakoy Dolmus travels direct to Fethiye Town, Gemiler and Olu-Deniz beaches every 1/2 - 1 hour and fares are between 3-6 Turkish Lira.

Please pass on our sincere thanks to Cetin and family for their help in making our holiday such a pleasure. The cottage and pool are really lovely, well equipped with everything we needed, and I do hope we can come again some time.

The review:
The property is very comfortable and the owner was extremely friendly. The most attractive aspect of the cottage was the privacy that it afforded and the wonderful pool that provided relief from the summer heat.
I would certainly consider staying in the cottage again should I return to Kayakoy.

We enjoyed our stay at Ozlem. The pool was excellent and situated in a large plot which provide plenty of privacy whilst allowing outward views to the surrounding rural area, also the Levisi ruins and even the mountain Baba Dag behind. Cetin the owner (who also runs the nearest village shop) and his wife were very friendly, visiting each day to look after the pool and their hens which free ranged through the garden and nearby fields. We also enjoyed the nearby Antik restaurant which is run by Cetins brother, where we were made to feel like one of the family. We would stay again. Only downside was a non-working TV with no apparent aerial input,.although there was a DVD player, which is all we needed.
