Brandon: Wren's Old Cottage is 1 mile from Brandon Village where there is an idyllic fishing harbour with small pier. Small boats can be moored or launched here and Brandon Bay is popular with sea anglers. Angling from the pier wall is also a very popular activity. The small beach here is a haven for small children. There are 3 pubs in Brandon where fine local food is served and traditional music can be heard. The Feile Lughnasa and Brandon Regatta are two important local events taking place in August

Cloghane. Dingle. Fermoyle Strand: Cloghane village is 3 miles from the cottage and is the location of the nearest shop where all essentials can be purchased. St. Brendan's Catholic Church is here with weekly masses. Cloghane has 2 pubs both serving food and also traditional music. Traditional music and a cup of tea can also be enjoyed in the Tintean Ceoil every Monday night in the village from 7.30pm - 9.30pm all year round and up to 3 nights a week in the peak season.

Dingle is 20 minute drive over the wonderful scenic drive of Conor Pass. Dingle is a small town offering everything a traveller would require. The fishing trawlers by the pier, seafood and high quality restaurants, traditional Irish food and souvenier shops. There are many pubs offering traditional Irish music, food and drink.

Nearer to home there is magnificent Fermoyle Strand, a sandy beach, famous for surfing and very clean and safe for swimming and water sports. The 7 uninterupted miles make it a great beach walk.

How to get here!: Kerry International Airport is 50 minute drive from the cottage and from here there are direct Ryanair flights to London Stansted, London Luton and Frankfurt Hahn. Aer Arann fly to Dublin where there are many connecting flights. Cork and Shannon Airports are both 2 +1/2 hr drives where there is a bigger selection of direct flights. All airports offer car hire.

Ringaskiddy is the nearest ferryport with sailings to France.

Rosslare and Dublin would be the main ferryports for UK

We also rent out Direen Cottage, property no:7825, situated 3 miles from Wren's Old Cottage, if dates , location or availability would be more suitable.

A wonderful holiday was had by all!

  • 5 of 5
The views, the hospitality, the friendliness, the fantastic beaches, the scenery…oh the list could go on and on! We were 6 ( two adults and 4 kids) with a dog, this isn´t our first visit to Brandon or our first experience with Janet and Eamon so we knew what was waiting for us and weren´t disappointed! The weather was lovely, the kids were swimming, fishing, pier jumping and hiking. The house was for 6 people adequate, although when the weather is good the kids have enough to do outside. We enjoyed an ever changing view of Brandon mountains and the sea every morning, we used to sit on the bench outside the house a cup of tea in one hand and a camera in the other discussing our plans for the day. Wren Cottage is wonderfully situated, Janet and Eamon are perfect hosts. You´re greeted on arrival and during your stay with friendliness and warmth that makes you feel right at home, we loved our two weeks in Brandon! Thanks again Janet and Eamon it´s always a pleasure, looking forward to next year already :-)

Great!

The cottage is nice, authentic and cosy, the turf fire in the evening adding an extra touch.
There is grass in front for the kids to play and they could come with us in the field next to the cottage where the sheeps are grassing and a little river is running: that was really super fun for them.
The owners are very friendly and even showed the kids how the bees make honey.
All in all an unforgettable stay!

Ten Stars Aren't Enough...

Ten Stars Aren't Enough...

I am sister of Anna H. and concur with all she wrote but would like to add a few extras. Having been the only one in our group to visit Ireland before, my main goal was to show my family the Ireland I fell in love with- the Ireland beyond the wonderful tourist attractions and souvenir shops dotted throughout the island. i wanted to show them the rugged beauty of its magical countryside, the warmth of its people and the almost spiritual experience of discovering an unexpected longing for a simpler life rich with nature and sense of community. You will find and feel that all at Wren's and within the village and villagers of Cloghane and Brandon. From the open turf fire to sunset walks on Brandon Point, daily morning visits to the baker for fresh baked goods, a "singsong" at O'Connors, walking the foot of Mt. Brandon with the sheep, being invited in by a complete stranger for a "cuppa"...I could go on for days. I will forever come back to Wren's when in Ireland. I will go further to say I will plan my trips around whenever the cottage is available! To be surrounded by both the mountain and seaside is nothing short of spectacular. Thanks again to our gracious hosts Janet and Eamon.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5
My sister, brother, mother, niece, and I spent 4 wonderful nights here during our week-long Ireland vacation, and we all agree that Wren's Old Cottage was the highlight of our trip. The location is perfect - you are literally within walking distance to the mountains and to the sea. My niece and I made the hike to Sauce Creek one afternoon (absolutely stunning view), and our entire family spent multiple evenings at Brandon Point just watching the sunset. We also spent time in 1) Cloghane (we especially enjoyed our evenings at O'Connors, and the toffee caramel muffins from the Cloghane grocery); 2) Castlegregory (horseback riding on the beach); and 3) Dingle (Conor Pass is provides a spectacular view).

Wren's Old Cottage was the perfect "home base" to have in order to enjoy all of the above-mentioned activities. The cottage itself was clean, well-kept, and cozy (the turf fires were a highlight of each evening), and the wifi connection was extremely fast. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you felt at home in Wren's Old Cottage as that is what we aim to achieve with our guests. The turf fire makes the cottage cosy, welcoming and relaxing in the evenings. We welcome children and are delighted your little boy also enjoyed his holiday! There is a nice lawn in front of the cottage for sitting out and playing games with a spectacular view towards sea and mountains.

Happy days at your house

  • 5 of 5
I was very happy with the stay at your house, a fire was already lit when I arrived, clean, comfortable, spaceous, the owner available for all questions I had, I highly can recommend this place and plan to return to it again. Easily accessible, but privately located.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that you had an enjoyable stay in Wren's Old Cottage. It is important to visitors that the cottage is easily accessible and yet in a private location. The house alongside in the photograph is detached, infrequently occupied and the small mountain road is beyond that, so the cottage is isolated and visitors have plenty of outdoor space with access to the fields to the West. There are spectacular walks by continuing up the road to Sauce Creek and Mount Brandon.
