A romantic place for two (or three) right in the center of the old part of Cannes, beautifully equipped and recently refurnished for 2006.
I have lovingly restored this studio with its original wooden beams and have decorated it with furniture brought back from my trips to India. This is the place where Maharajahs would like to hide with their Maharani!
It is, however, unsuitable for small children.
The studio is very cosy and comfortable, bright and bathed in the mild morning sun. Two windows open onto the courtyard and a fascinating landscape of roofs - no noise from the busy city, just a few seagulls from time to time.
The kitchen is well equipped and modern (including a nice big fridge and an oven), the entertainment systems are leading-edge and there is wireless high-speed internet if you need it.
There is a brand-new bright bathroom, with bathtub and shower, a large sink with top mirror, and toilet.
The studio is located on the third floor of an old house with only few apartments - sorry, as in most old houses, there is no lift!
The 'Maharajah' studio is literally footsteps away from the Palais de Festivals on the seafront (this is where the annual Film Festival is held - no need to go to Hollywood, it all happens in Cannes in May).
The charming Old Port, the famous beaches, the restaurants, the magical Croisette with its Deluxe hotels and world-class shopping - they are all minutes away on foot.
Walk out onto the bustling pedestrian street Rue Meynadier, where you can buy anything you might need, from food to fashion, and on the corner is the market hall of Marché Forville, open every morning (including Sundays when it is a Flea-Market)) with a huge choice of vegetables and beautiful fruit.
In the evening you can stroll along the port with its breathtaking views of yachts from all over the world - some of them are also available for rent. Or window-shop the incredible choice of restaurants - the best fresh fish, oysters and lobsters are at 'Brun'.
Or saunter down the Croisette to sip your pastis on the terrace of the Hotel Carlton after returning from a long day on the beach - this is one of the best spots in the world for people-watching.
Cannes is alive all year round and there are always things to see and do. Even if you want to take it easy and go to the cinema, you’ll find several English-language films on at the nearby multi-screen cinema. Incidentally, English is very widely spoken in Cannes and all along the Côte d’Azur.
Some general information:
After W.W.II, Cannes quickly became the haunt of crowned heads and billionaires, then the city of stars, festivals, and international conventions. Mostly famous for its International Film Festival (in May) the town regularly hosts well-known stars in its many luxury hotels. On La Croisette, the most famous fashion brands are represented: among others Louis Vuitton, Chanel, or Hermès. Of course, restaurants and boutiques are all around. The white-sand beach across La Croisette is usually crowded but remains one of the most famous throughout the French Riviera. But there are plenty of beaches all along the coastline of Cannes, from popular to poche... please bring your own beach towels (unless you want to buy them at Chanel, Nina Ricci or other brands...).
The transport hub of Nice is 20 minutes to the east. CANNES train station is served by the high-speed TGV (the 'Train Grande Vitesse,' only five hours to Paris), and its international airport (Nice-Côte d’Azur) has daily flights from New York and many connections from all over Europe. Other transatlantic flights connect through Paris. Cannes train station is 10 minutes away on foot.
With a car, you can range far and wide on day trips alone: Italy is only 1 hour away. Aix en Provence and St Tropez are 90 minutes distant. Less than an hour away are Monte Carlo, Villefranche, St Paul-de-Vence, Grasse, Antibes, Juan-les-Pins, and some fabulous golf courses.
By the way, if you want to rent a car and park it very close to your apartment, you can arrange via Internet a parking place in an underground Parking just five minutes away. On the other hand, you can also easily take the train to reach Saint Tropez, Nice, Monte Carlo, Menton, and even Italy... and don't have to worry about a car!
Please do not hesitate to give me a call (considering the time zones - i am fast asleep when you are awake!) - and I will be pleased to give you any additional information you may need... a personal contact makes all the difference!
